Upacara tradisional yang berkaitan dengan peristiwa alam dan kepercayaan daerah Nusa Tenggara Timur
Upacara tradisional yang diinventarisasikan dalam kegiatan ini ialah upacara yang ada kaitannya dengan peristiwa alam dan kepercayaan yang bersifat khas dari daerah Propinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur dan diambil dari dua kelompok etnis. Oleh karena itu, pencatatan dan dan penelitian tematis ini dipusatkan pada daerah-daerah yang menjadi sasaran penelitian. Daerah-daerah tersebut ialah daerah yang didiami oleh suku bangsa Alor Lawahing di Kabupaten Alor, Kelurahan Kalabahi Tengah, salah satu desa dari empat buah desa di dalam wilayah pemerintahan Koordinator Pemerintah Kota (Kopeta) dan suku bangsa Sumba di Kabupaten Sumba Barat, Kecamatan Wewewa Timur desa Kalembu Ndara Mane.Adanya data dan informasi tentang upacara tradisional yang berkaitan dengan peristiwa alam dan kepercayaan dari daerah Nusa Tenggara Timur khususnya dari daerah Alor Lawahing dan Sumba Barat, maka diharapkan dapat terungkaplah sedikit pengetahuan tentang upacara tradisional dari daerah tersebut. Informasi ini dapat dipakai sebagai bahan pelengkap untuk mengetahui secara keseluruhan tentang adat istiadat di Indonesia
Multiethnic meta-analysis identifies ancestry-specific and cross-ancestry loci for pulmonary function
Nearly 100 loci have been identified for pulmonary function, almost exclusively in studies of European ancestry populations. We extend previous research by meta-analyzing genome-wide association studies of 1000 Genomes imputed variants in relation to pulmonary function in a multiethnic population of 90,715 individuals of European (N = 60,552), African (N = 8429), Asian (N = 9959), and Hispanic/Latino (N = 11,775) ethnicities. We identify over 50 additional loci at genome-wide significance in ancestry-specific or multiethnic meta-analyses. Using recent fine-mapping methods incorporating functional annotation, gene expression, and differences in linkage disequilibrium between ethnicities, we further shed light on potential causal variants and genes at known and newly identified loci. Several of the novel genes encode proteins with predicted or established drug targets, including KCNK2 and CDK12. Multilength-scale modeling: Crystal-plasticity models in implicit finite element codes
A multidisciplinary team of researchers from Chemistry & Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering have recently completed the first year of an LDRD Director`s Initiative. This initiative involves the development of physics-based multilength-scale models to optimize casting and deformation processing of polycrystalline materials. The purpose of this initiative is to develop models to simulate the material`s mechanical response on the meso length-scale. The meso length-scale refers to the realm where the material microstructure (e. g., grain size and shape, crystallite orientation, etc.) is resolved but dislocations are homogenized. The recent development of two experimental technologies has provided a unique capability to validate material models on the mesolength-scale. The first of these technologies is the ultrahigh-vacuum diffusion bonding machine. This machine has been demonstrated to build bicrystals with high-precision planar grain boundaries joining two precisely oriented crystallites. The second technology is Orientation Imaging Microscopy. This technology has been demonstrated to precisely determine the local lattice orientation in a microstructure. Hence, this provides a powerful tool to characterize local lattice rotations following specified levels of deformation. The coupling of these two technologies provides a tool for detailed study of a material`s mechanical response due to the presence of an interface or grain boundary. 6 refs., 6 figs
