    This paper is aimed to analyze the trends and changing environment of Malaysian ports industry and also attempts to discuss the strategies to sustain competitive advantage based on the theoretical perspective Ports cannot rely only on its external resources such as strategic locational advantage, excellent physical infrastructure and good structure of hinterland. The emergence of RBV has expanding the way of sustaining port competitive advantage by extracting and utilizing the firm internal resources. The detailed discussion of the ports and its resources, and analyzed the case using Resources-based view (RBV) of strategy. Finally this paper aimed to develop the Malaysian port competitiveness based on RBV framework

    Determinants of Malaysian port competitiveness: An application of resource-base view

    The ultimate goal of strategic management research is to search for the explanation of why some firms are more successful than their competitors. This study applies the Resource-based View Theory to get a full understanding of how ports capitalize the resources and competency to compete and improve port performance. This study identifies factors that can increase the port's performance by analyzing the relationship between port tangible and intangible resources and port performance. Port tangibles resources include financial assets, physical assets and technology assets, whereas port intangible assets include intellectual property assets, organizational assets and port capabilities. A total of 123 respondents from major ports in Malaysia were involved in this survey. This study found out that one dimension of port intangible resources which is port capabilities do have a significant influence on port performance. However, two other dimensions of intangible assets which are intellectual property assets and organizational assets have no significant influence on port performance. In term of tangible resources, this study found out that all assets such as financial assets, physical assets and technology assets do not have any significant influence on port performance. The findings of this study are expected to have implications for the port industry on the importance of port capabilities in improving port performance and competitiveness. This study provides recommendations to industry, discusses the limitations of the study and provides suggestions for future research

    This is an exploratory study on Implementing Risk Management Plans and Programs which focusing on one case study that had been conducted at Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Bhd (SYABAS).The main aims of this study is to identify whether SYABAS do practice its Risk Management Plans and Programs and also to identify in detail the risk management process suggested by AS/NZS 4360 model.This study found that does not fully practiced and utilized Risk Management Process as suggested by this model.This study gives some recommendations and suggestions to Syabas and other utilities companies on how to be more efficient in implementing its risk management plans and programs

    INFLUENCE OF ISLAMIC ADVERTISING: ETHIC VIOLATION ON CUSTOMER PURCHASE INTENTION OF HALAL COSMETIC PRODUCTS IN MALAYSIA

    Purpose of the study: This paper examines the relation between Muslim women customer offense due to Islamic advertising ethics violation and purchase intention of halal cosmetic products in Malaysia. Methodology: The relation between Muslim women customer offense due to Islamic advertising ethics violation of halal cosmetic products and purchase intention in Malaysia was examined through a survey that included 110 Muslim women respondents in Malaysia, who used cosmetics. The items used for the operationalization of variables were based on the advertising ethics provided by Quran and Sunnah. Based on the correlation results, this study reveals that Islamic advertising ethic violation (honesty, racism, sexism, intention, and language) has correlation with purchase intention. A multiple regression analysis highlighted that racism, sexism, intention, and language have negative and significant influence on purchase intention. Results: Only one variable was found that was not a significant influence on the purchase intention of halal cosmetic products in Malaysia. Sexism plays the most critical role in influencing consumers’ intention that makes them avoid buying halal cosmetic products. Furthermore, customer offense is created due to the violation of ethics and has a negative impact on purchase intention of halal cosmetic products. Implications: The current study confirms that irrespective of their religion as Muslims, women’s perspective find those advertisements offensive and unethical. The ethics provided by Islam are universal in nature

    THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT ON POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE

    Purpose of the study: The aim of this study is to discuss the role of government on politics and trade. Political economy brings the production and exchange of goods and services that are parallel with the country’s law. The government plays a massive role because if it is not effective then the trade profitability will be decreased. Thus, political intervention is needed to protect the development of economy, sovereignty, and citizens of the state. Methodology: The data for this study were obtained from existing literatures on the role of government on politics and international trade. The methodology relied heavily on existing literatures on the subject being dealt with. Result: Political economy on international trade enables the cheap production and import of goods and services in the country. This is because international trade does not limit to commodities as they are produced by only some countries. Finally, political economy can be surveyed by comprehensively gathering political aspects, such as national policies and their administration, and this will take a basic position on the existing and ideal financial models, organizations, and related policies which are being formulated by micro- and macro-economic agendas. Implication: The interest for the political economy of trade arrangement is the complementary impact of global exchange on local and worldwide legislative issues

    Sustaining port competitive advantage: An application of resource-based view approach

    This research aims to determine the relationship of port resources and capabilities with the port performance. The data was collected through self-administered survey and mail questionnaires.The results from the findings indicate that port tangible resources such as financial assets, technology assets and physical assets are playing a significant role to increase performance of Malaysian port.Meanwhile, for port intangible assets such as intellectual property assets, organizational assets and capabilities, the study found that these resources have significantly contributed to the higher port performance as compared to port tangible assets.Most interestingly, the findings also discover that the organizational assets such as port culture, structure of the firms, firm human resource policies, port contract in the vertical and horizontal integration and port reputation show the highest significant level as compared to other components in the port intangible assets.This study extends the body of literature related to the source of port competitive advantage. The findings of this research are also providing important contributions for practitioners and policy makers in developing policies and strategies for promoting Malaysia as a world maritime nation

    Translating concept of al-hakimiyya (sovereignty) into practice: a study on the implementation of Islamic law during the first Muslim conquest of Islamic Jerusalem (Bayt Al-Maqdis)

    An investigation on the Muslim concept of al-Hakimiyya (sovereignty) highlights judicial aspect as among the important one. Therefore, this research attempts to examine approaches taken by Muslim rulers in translating concept of al-Hakimiyya by choosing one of the most conflicting region, namely Islamicjerusalem (Bayt al-Maqdis). By investigating the implementation of Islamic law in Islamicjerusalem during the first Muslim conquest of this region, this paper affirms that Muslims had strategically and successfully translated al-Hakimiyya concept into practice by upholding Islamic law as the backbone of Umar’s Assurance of Safety to the people Islamicjerusalem. This also guided them in initiating appropriate measures to judiciously implement Islamic law by appointing qualified judges and establishing police department since the first Muslim conquest led by 'Umar Ibn al-Khattab

    The use of (ICT) in logistics has been advocated to enhance the performance of the logistics sector especially in the seaports. A huge number of researches showed the importance of using RBV in analyzing performance. RBV however has been adopted in accordance to address the implication of IT on performance for many years, and the latest findings on “IT-performance” relationship is very unclear to make a conclusion. Therefore, further study on application of this theory in the ICT-performance relationship in port industry. This study seeks to examine the impact of ICT implementation on Penang Port Sdn. Bhd. (PPSB) performance. This research is exploratory in nature and the data was collected through a series of interviews. The result from this study shows that there are impact on the ICT usage, container management and Smart-Rail system on port performance. However, this study indicates that port security system does not give an impact towards achieving overall port performance. This study found that technology resources raise internal and external capabilities, which in turn affect port performance. Port resources positively affect organizational efficiency through its impact on internal capabilities thus directly impact the port performance. The results of this study provide direction for investing and managing organizational it resources to achieve competiveness

    Currently, 2.2 billion people worldwide are experiencing vision impairment. At least 1 billion of them can be prevented by wearing proper glasses. Ironically, is it being difficult to distinguish between those who wear glasses due to refractive disorders and those who wear glasses to look fashionably trendy. This study aims to identify the behavior of eyewear users from the perspective of eye health based on sources from journals published in 2010-2020. The research methodology used is a systematic literature review by analyzing available literature relevant to the issue under study. Preliminary results show that the prevalence of refractive disorders is high and awareness of eye health needs is still low. There is a different attitude toward wearing glass between urban and rural consumers. Eye care services as a health system are needed to provide services and the importance of the proper use of glass as an aid for better vision and reduce the burden to vision due to refraction errors.En la actualidad, 2.200 millones de personas en todo el mundo sufren problemas de visión. Al menos 1000 millones de ellos se pueden prevenir con el uso de anteojos adecuados. Irónicamente, es difícil distinguir entre quienes usan anteojos debido a trastornos refractivos y quienes usan anteojos para lucir a la moda. Este estudio tiene como objetivo identificar el comportamiento de los usuarios de gafas desde la perspectiva de la salud ocular a partir de fuentes de revistas publicadas en 2010-2020. La metodología de investigación utilizada es una revisión sistemática de la literatura mediante el análisis de la literatura disponible relevante para el tema en estudio. Los resultados preliminares muestran que la prevalencia de los trastornos refractivos es alta y que la conciencia de las necesidades de salud ocular aún es baja. Hay una actitud diferente hacia el uso de vidrio entre los consumidores urbanos y rurales. Los servicios de atención oftalmológica como sistema de salud son necesarios para brindar servicios y la importancia del uso adecuado de los vidrios como ayuda para una mejor visión y reducir la carga a la visión debido a los errores de refracción
