The Effect of Fiber Sizes on Mechanical Properties of Millet Husk (Pennisetum glaucum) Fiber Filled High Density Polyethylene Composites

    Get PDF
This study examined the effect of fiber sizes on the mechanical properties of millet husk powder (MHP) filled high density polyethylene (HDPE) thermoplastic composites. The MHP-HDPE composites were prepared by melt blending techniques, accompanied by compression molding process. Three different fiber sizes; 250µm, 500µm and 750µm were pulverized and the fiber loading was 10%, 20% 30% and 40% by weight. Tensile and impact properties were tested using universal testing machine (UTM). 1The results show that ensile strength increased at certain loadings while tensile modulus increased by increasing the millet fiber loading. While the impact strength decreases substantially with increase fiber loading the tensile strain considerably decreased at millet husk fiber application above 10%. Therefore, it was observed that composites with least size fiber indicated improvement with increasing strength as well as relative extension

Cross-boundary collaboration: Key to the conservation puzzle

    Get PDF
Conservation science is advancing rapidly, yet the majority of research overlooks a key factor that can play a major role in shaping the outcomes of conservation initiatives: collaboration. Here, we review the importance, benefits and limitations of incorporating collaboration into conservation and specifically into systematic conservation planning, providing a general framework for considering collaboration in conservation planning. Recent work shows that cross-boundary collaboration can have both positive and negative impacts on the outcomes of conservation and management efforts for protected areas, ecosystems, threatened and invasive species. The feasibility of collaboration, its likely effects and associated trade-offs should therefore be explicitly incorporated into conservation science and planning. This will ensure that conservation decisions avoid wasted funding when collaboration is infeasible, promoting collaboration when the benefits outweigh the costs

Numerical analysis of heat transfer in cooling of fish packages

    Get PDF
The present work aims at finding the optimal finite difference scheme for the solution of problems involving pure heat transfer from the surface of solids suddenly exposed to a cooling environment. Fish samples in the form of infinite slab were considered, and a generalized mathematical model was constructed in dimensionless form. A more representative and accurate set of experimental data is chosen from the experimental work for comparison with the numerical results and evaluation of numerical schemes. In the analysis, a fully explicit finite difference scheme, an implicit finite difference scheme and different combination schemes with varying values of weighting factor are thoroughly studied. The characteristic dimension (half thickness of the slab) is divided into a number of divisions; n = 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 100, respectively. All the possible options of the Fourier number increments are taken one by one to give the best convergence and minimal truncation error. The simplest explicit finite difference scheme with n = 10 and Fourier number increments one sixth of the square of the space division size appears to be highly reliable and accurate for such applications

The study aims to determine the placement, organizational justice and job satisfaction have a significant influence on the performance of employees at Regional General Hospital Wangaya. This research was conducted at the General Hospital of Wangaya with multiple linear regression analysis. The number of samples, by using the method of proportionate random sampling of 227 respondents. Results of the analysis showed that placement, organizational justice and job satisfaction positive and significant effect partially on the performance of employees, so management must look at education, knowledge, a person's experience, so it has good skills and personality in the services to the patients. Applying justice organizations by providing appropriate rewards and do not discriminate against employees in carrying out the work. Companies must pay attention to employees in terms of their needs and needs in the work, so that employees have the enthusiasm and excitement to finish the job to the fullest

Evanescent light-matter Interactions in Atomic Cladding Wave Guides

Alkali vapors, and in particular rubidium, are being used extensively in several important fields of research such as slow and stored light non-linear optics3 and quantum computation. Additionally, the technology of alkali vapors plays a major role in realizing myriad industrial applications including for example atomic clocks magentometers8 and optical frequency stabilization. Lately, there is a growing effort towards miniaturizing traditional centimeter-size alkali vapor cells. Owing to the significant reduction in device dimensions, light matter interactions are greatly enhanced, enabling new functionalities due to the low power threshold needed for non-linear interactions. Here, taking advantage of the mature Complimentary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) compatible platform of silicon photonics, we construct an efficient and flexible platform for tailored light vapor interactions on a chip. Specifically, we demonstrate light matter interactions in an atomic cladding wave guide (ACWG), consisting of CMOS compatible silicon nitride nano wave-guide core with a Rubidium (Rb) vapor cladding. We observe the highly efficient interaction of the electromagnetic guided mode with the thermal Rb cladding. The nature of such interactions is explained by a model which predicts the transmission spectrum of the system taking into account Doppler and transit time broadening. We show, that due to the high confinement of the optical mode (with a mode area of 0.3{\lambda}2), the Rb absorption saturates at powers in the nW regime.Comment: 10 Pages 4 Figures. 1 Supplementar
