Extremal Black Attractors in 8D Maximal Supergravity
Motivated by the new higher D-supergravity solutions on intersecting
attractors obtained by Ferrara et al. in [Phys.Rev.D79:065031-2009], we focus
in this paper on 8D maximal supergravity with moduli space
[SL(3,R)/SO(3)]x[SL(2,R)/SO(2)] and study explicitly the attractor mechanism
for various configurations of extremal black p- branes (anti-branes) with the
typical near horizon geometries AdS_{p+2}xS^{m}xT^{6-p-m} and p=0,1,2,3,4;
2<=m<=6. Interpretations in terms of wrapped M2 and M5 branes of the 11D
M-theory on 3-torus are also given.

The lightest Higgs boson production at photon colliders in the 2HDM-III
The branching ratios of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson , in the
framework of the General Two Higgs Doublet Model are calculated. Different
scenarios are presented taking into account constraints obtained in previous
works on the flavor changing neutral currents factors. Plausible scenarios with
flavour changing processes at tree level like and are
analyzed for relevant region of parameters. The loop-induced Higgs couplings to
photon pairs can be tested with a photon collider. The number of events of
as a resonance in photon colliders are calculated taking into account its
corresponding background signal in TESLA, CLIC and NLC.Comment: 1. Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogota, Colombia. (2)

q-Ultraspherical polynomials for q a root of unity
Properties of the -ultraspherical polynomials for being a primitive
root of unity are derived using a formalism of the algebra. The
orthogonality condition for these polynomials provides a new class of
trigonometric identities representing discrete finite-dimensional analogs of
-beta integrals of Ramanujan.Comment: 7 pages, LATE
Massive Elementary Particles and Black Holes
An outstanding problem posed by Einstein's general theory of relativity to
the quantum theory of point particle fields is the fate of a massive point
particle; for, in the classical solutions of Einstein's theory, such a system
should be a black hole. We use exact results in a new approach to quantum
gravity to show that this conclusion is obviated by quantum loop effects.
Phenomenological implications are discussedComment: 11 pages; 1 figure; improved text relating to asymptotic safet
Soil Moisture and Permittivity Estimation
The soil moisture and permittivity estimation is vital for the success of the variable rate approaches in the field of the decision agriculture. In this chapter, the development of a novel permittivity estimation and soil moisture sensing approach is presented. The empirical setup and experimental methodology for the power delay measurements used in model are introduced. Moreover, the performance analysis is explained that includes the model validation and error analysis. The transfer functions are reported as well for soil moisture and permittivity estimation. Furthermore, the potential applications of the developed approach in different disciplines are also examined
Chinese Magic in Loop Integrals
We present an approach to higher point loop integrals using Chinese magic in
the virtual loop integration variable. We show, using the five point function
in the important e^+e^-\to f\bar{f}+\gamma process for ISR as a pedagogical
vehicle, that we get an expression for it directly reduced to one scalar
5-point function and 4-, 3-, and 2- point integrals, thereby avoiding the
computation of the usual three tensor 5-pt Passarino-Veltman reduction. We
argue that this offers potential for greater numerical stability.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure; improved figure, improved text and

Flavour Physics and CP Violation in the Standard Model and Beyond
We present the invited lectures given at the Third IDPASC School which took
place in Santiago de Compostela in January 2013. The students attending the
school had very different backgrounds, some of them were doing their Ph.D. in
experimental particle physics, others in theory. As a result, and in order to
make the lectures useful for most of the students, we focused on basic topics
of broad interest, avoiding the more technical aspects of Flavour Physics and
CP Violation. We make a brief review of the Standard Model, paying special
attention to the generation of fermion masses and mixing, as well as to CP
violation. We describe some of the simplest extensions of the SM, emphasising
novel flavour aspects which arise in their framework.Comment: Invited talk at the Third IDPASC School 2013, January 21st - February

L-isoleucine-supplemented Oral Rehydration Solution in the Treatment of Acute Diarrhoea in Children: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Antimicrobial peptides represent an important component of the innate immune defenses of living organisms, including humans. They are broad-spectrum surface-acting agents secreted by the epithelial cells of the body in response to infection. Recently, L-isoleucine and its analogues have been found to induce antimicrobial peptides. The objectives of the study were to examine if addition of L-isoleucine to oral rehydration salts (ORS) solution would reduce stool output and/or duration of acute diarrhoea in children and induce antimicrobial peptides in intestine. This double-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted at the Dhaka Hospital of ICDDR,B. Fifty male children, aged 6-36 months, with acute diarrhoea and some dehydration, attending the hospital, were included in the study. Twenty-five children received L-isoleucine (2 g/L)-added ORS (study), and 25 received ORS without L-isoleucine (control). Stool weight, ORS intake, and duration of diarrhoea were the primary outcomes. There was a trend in reduction in mean±standard deviation (SD) daily stool output (g) of children in the L-isoleucine group from day 2 but it was significant on day 3 (388±261 vs 653±446; the difference between mean [95% confidence interval (CI) (-)265 (−509, −20); p=0.035]. Although the cumulative stool output from day 1 to day 3 reduced by 26% in the isoleucine group, it was not significant. Also, there was a trend in reduction in the mean±SD intake of ORS solution (mL) in the L-isoleucine group but it was significant only on day 1 (410±169 vs 564±301), the difference between mean (95% CI) (-)154 (-288, −18); p=0.04. The duration (hours) of diarrhoea was similar in both the groups. A gradual increase in stool concentrations of ß-defensin 2 and 3 was noted but they were not significantly different between the groups. L-isoleucine-supplemented ORS might be beneficial in reducing stool output and ORS intake in children with acute watery diarrhoea. A further study is warranted to substantiate the therapeutic effect of L-isoleucine
Decision Agriculture
In this chapter, the latest developments in the field of decision agriculture are discussed. The practice of management zones in digital agriculture is described for efficient and smart faming. Accordingly, the methodology for delineating management zones is presented. Modeling of decision support systems is explained along with discussion of the issues and challenges in this area. Moreover, the precision agriculture technology is also considered. Moreover, the chapter surveys the state of the decision agriculture technologies in the countries such as Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Israel, Malaysia, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Ukraine, and Sweden. Finally, different field factors such as GPS accuracy and crop growth are also analyzed
