In vivo pathogenicity of hydropericardium hepatitis syndrome (Angara disease)

    Get PDF
This study was conducted on 175 one day old broiler chicks in order to observe in vivo pathogenicity of hydropericardium hepatitis syndrome (Angara disease). Chicks were grouped into A (25 chicks; reared at the Poultry Research institute (PRI), Rawalpindi) and B groups (150 chicks; reared at National Veterinary Laboratories (NVL) Islamabad in poultry rearing units). Feed and water were provided adlibitum to all the birds in both groups. The LD50 (lethal dose 50) of the virus was determined at the age of 26 days of broiler chickens divided into sub-groups a, b, c, d and e (each having 5 birds). The LD50 titre of the viral suspension (10%) was prepared from liver extract and determined as 10-2.5 per ml. During the study, potency of the vaccines was determined by vaccinating 150 chicks of sub-group k, l, m, n and o (each having 30 birds) with a dose of 0.2 ml. The vaccinated and non-vaccinated chicks of sub-groups were challenged with viral dose of 2 ml at day 17 post-vaccination to know the protection potency of the vaccines. No chick showed clinical manifestation of disease up to five days post challenge. On the 6th day post challenge, all the chicks were slaughtered and subjected to postmortem. Some of the chicks showed the lesions of hydropericarium. Histopathological findings of liver of all sub-groups revealed different stages of necrosis, cloudy swelling, liquefactive necrosis, cytoplasmic blabing, fatty degeneration and intranuclear inclusion bodies of virus.Key words: In vivo pathogenicity, hydropericardium hepatitis syndrome, Angara disease

Medium-range interactions and crossover to classical critical behavior

We study the crossover from Ising-like to classical critical behavior as a function of the range R of interactions. The power-law dependence on R of several critical amplitudes is calculated from renormalization theory. The results confirm the predictions of Mon and Binder, which were obtained from phenomenological scaling arguments. In addition, we calculate the range dependence of several corrections to scaling. We have tested the results in Monte Carlo simulations of two-dimensional systems with an extended range of interaction. An efficient Monte Carlo algorithm enabled us to carry out simulations for sufficiently large values of R, so that the theoretical predictions could actually be observed.Comment: 16 pages RevTeX, 8 PostScript figures. On stability of the three-dimensional fixed point in a model with three coupling constants from the ϵ\epsilon expansion: Three-loop results

The structure of the renormalization-group flows in a model with three quartic coupling constants is studied within the ϵ\epsilon-expansion method up to three-loop order. Twofold degeneracy of the eigenvalue exponents for the three-dimensionally stable fixed point is observed and the possibility for powers in ϵ\sqrt{\epsilon} to appear in the series is investigated. Reliability and effectiveness of the ϵ\epsilon-expansion method for the given model is discussed.Comment: 14 pages, LaTeX, no figures. To be published in Phys. Rev. B, V.57 (1998

Correlations in Ising chains with non-integrable interactions

Two-spin correlations generated by interactions which decay with distance r as r^{-1-sigma} with -1 <sigma <0 are calculated for periodic Ising chains of length L. Mean-field theory indicates that the correlations, C(r,L), diminish in the thermodynamic limit L -> \infty, but they contain a singular structure for r/L -> 0 which can be observed by introducing magnified correlations, LC(r,L)-\sum_r C(r,L). The magnified correlations are shown to have a scaling form F(r/L) and the singular structure of F(x) for x->0 is found to be the same at all temperatures including the critical point. These conclusions are supported by the results of Monte Carlo simulations for systems with sigma =-0.50 and -0.25 both at the critical temperature T=Tc and at T=2Tc.Comment: 13 pages, latex, 5 eps figures in a separate uuencoded file, to appear in Phys.Rev.

Universality classes of three-dimensional mnmn-vector model

We study the conditions under which the critical behavior of the three-dimensional mnmn-vector model does not belong to the spherically symmetrical universality class. In the calculations we rely on the field-theoretical renormalization group approach in different regularization schemes adjusted by resummation and extended analysis of the series for renormalization-group functions which are known for the model in high orders of perturbation theory. The phase diagram of the three-dimensional mnmn-vector model is built marking out domains in the mnmn-plane where the model belongs to a given universality class.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figur

Theory of optical spectra of polar quantum wells: Temperature effects

Theoretical and numerical calculations of the optical absorption spectra of excitons interacting with longitudinal-optical phonons in quasi-2D polar semiconductors are presented. In II-VI semiconductor quantum wells, exciton binding energy can be tuned on- and off-resonance with the longitudinal-optical phonon energy by varying the quantum well width. A comprehensive picture of this tunning effect on the temperature-dependent exciton absorption spectrum is derived, using the exciton Green's function formalism at finite temperature. The effective exciton-phonon interaction is included in the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Numerical results are illustrated for ZnSe-based quantum wells. At low temperatures, both a single exciton peak as well as a continuum resonance state are found in the optical absorption spectra. By contrast, at high enough temperatures, a splitting of the exciton line due to the real phonon absorption processes is predicted. Possible previous experimental observations of this splitting are discussed.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. B. Permanent address: [email protected]

Critical behavior of three-dimensional magnets with complicated ordering from three-loop renormalization-group expansions

The critical behavior of a model describing phase transitions in 3D antiferromagnets with 2N-component real order parameters is studied within the renormalization-group (RG) approach. The RG functions are calculated in the three-loop order and resummed by the generalized Pade-Borel procedure preserving the specific symmetry properties of the model. An anisotropic stable fixed point is found to exist in the RG flow diagram for N > 1 and lies near the Bose fixed point; corresponding critical exponents are close to those of the XY model. The accuracy of the results obtained is discussed and estimated.Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX, revised version published in Phys. Rev.

On critical behavior of phase transitions in certain antiferromagnets with complicated ordering

Within the four-loop \ve expansion, we study the critical behavior of certain antiferromagnets with complicated ordering. We show that an anisotropic stable fixed point governs the phase transitions with new critical exponents. This is supported by the estimate of critical dimensionality NcC=1.445(20)N_c^C=1.445(20) obtained from six loops via the exact relation NcC=1/2NcRN_c^C={1/2} N_c^R established for the real and complex hypercubic models.Comment: Published versio
