    From Routes to Roots: A Vision of the Indian Subcontinent in Salman Rushdie’s Novels

    Rushdie has explored many themes and issues in his writing cosmos within the postcolonial perspective in relationship with language, history, politics, identity, migration, and globalization. The present paper is focused on his two famous novels The Moor's Last Sigh and Shalimar the Clown that had taken a reversion from the other works that are based on western countries and characters. He is traversing back from routes to roots, envisioning the Indian subcontinent within his critiques. Rushdie encompasses through the geographical, political, and cultural limits in the course of his written works, just to come back to explore his subcontinent. In both these books the Indian nation expects a key topical core interest with a major focus on serious issues like historical backdrop of India loaded with turbulence in the present circumstances, and the issue of Kashmir has given a priority that has got mutilated between India and Pakistan since independence. The experience of distance inside the third world connection is pondered upon after the postcolonial era of the subcontinent.     Influence of stent-induced vessel deformation on hemodynamic feature of bloodstream inside ICA aneurysms

    One of the effective treatment options for intracranial aneurysms is stent-assisted coiling. Though, previous works have demonstrated that stent usage would result in the deformation of the local vasculature. The effect of simple stent on the blood hemodynamics is still uncertain. In this work, hemodynamic features of the blood stream on four different ICA aneurysm with/without interventional are investigated. To estimate the relative impacts of vessel deformation, four distinctive ICA aneurysm is simulated by the one-way FSI technique. Four hemodynamic factors of aneurysm blood velocity, wall pressure and WSS are compared in the peak systolic stage to disclose the impact of defamation by the stent in two conditions. The stent usage would decrease almost all of the mentioned parameters, except for OSI. Stenting reduces neck inflow rate, while the effect of interventional was not consistent among the aneurysms. The deformation of an aneurysm has a strong influence on the hemodynamics of an aneurysm. This outcome is ignored by most of the preceding investigations, which focused on the pre-interventional state for studying the relationship between hemodynamics and stents. Present results show that the application of stent without coiling would improve most hemodynamic factors, especially when the deformation of the aneurysm is high enough

    A cross-sectional study to determine sex-wise prevalence of obesity in adults of Kashmiri population

    Background: Aim of current study was to determine the prevalence of obesity in both sexes in persons aged 18-45 years.Methods: Multistage and multiphasic sampling technique was utilized in this study to screen the obese subjects of  both males and females based on WHO classification of obesity according to BMI of 18-45 years of age. Each household was visited and only the subjects having age of 18-45 years were included in this study and this comprised of 5107 subjects, then identified obese cases with the help of height and weight techniques. Only those people who had simple obesity were included in the study. People having secondary obesity, drug induced obesity and pregnant ladies were excluded from this study. The data was collected and analysed using statistical software and chi square and proportional statistical test were applied.Results: Out of 5107 screened population, 2652 were males and 2455 were females and the prevalence of male obesity in study population is 6.41% and that of females is 7.74%.Conclusion: The sex has a significant impact on obesity. We reported in our study a prevalence of obesity is more in females as compared to males. A lack of physical activity as well as low frequency of employment makes females more susceptible to obesity.

    An Experimental-Numerical Study of Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Minichannel Using Asymmetric Pulsating Flows

    The development of current and next-generation high-performance electronic devices has led to miniaturization in more densely packed spaces. The increasing power levels have resulted in ever-increasing heat flux densities which necessitates the evolution of new liquid-based heat exchange technologies. Implementation of single-phase cooling systems using pulsating flow is viewed as a potential solution to the problems involving high energy density electronics. This work involves a combined experimental and numerical analysis of pulsating flows in a rectangular mini channel undergoing asymmetric sinusoidal flow pulsation formats. The mini channel design includes a heated bottom section approximated as a constant heat flux boundary by uniformly heating a 12.5 μm thick Inconel foil. Infrared thermography (IRT) is used for thermal measurements of the heated boundary from the hydrodynamically and thermally developed region of the mini channel. A 3-D conjugate heat transfer ANSYS CFX model is used for simulations. Asymmetric sinusoidal pulsating flows in the form of leading and lagging profiles with Womersley number of 2.5 and a flow rate amplitude ratio of 0.5 and 3 are investigated

    Elucidating social networking apps decisions: Performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influence

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the determinants of behavioural intention and use behaviour towards social networking apps. Exogenous latent constructs, namely, performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influence are the key antecedents proposed based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology to predict the usage intention and behaviour of social networking apps (i.e. endogenous latent constructs). Experience as a moderator is the extended construct to explain social networking apps user’s behavioural intention. Design/methodology/approach: To target young generation (Millennial), a cross-sectional data collection approach was conducted to collect data from the social networking apps users (i.e. Facebook, WhatsApp, WeChat, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and others) whereby a total of 384 valid questionnaires were obtained from six universities in Malaysia. Statistical analysis using partial least squares path modelling approach and a variance-based structural equation modelling (VB-SEM) techniques is performed to analyse the measurement and structural relationship. Findings: The findings indicate that performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influence determine behavioural intention, and behavioural intention impacts social networking apps use behaviour. Moreover, the moderation analysis reveals that the relationship between effort expectancy and behavioural intention is moderated by experience, whereas the relationship between social influence and behavioural intention is not moderated by experience. Originality/value: While the surge of social networking apps has gained tremendous popularity among Millennial as an attractive market segment, previous studies mainly have focussed on intention and behaviour of online users in general. Despite apps and related technologies which have opened a new era of effective communications in marketing, social networking apps usage intention and behaviour focussing on Millennial is not well understood in the current literature. This study contributes and sheds lights on the current issue of social networking apps usage intention and behaviour and looks into a key rising market segment, the Millennial users. © 2018, Emerald Publishing Limited

    Rational prescribing practice assessment among resident doctors in a tertiary care teaching hospital: a questionnaire based observational study

    Background: One of the important factors in health policy is recognised to be rational use of medicines (RUM). Physicians can influence the health and well-being of patients by prescribing appropriate drug in right doses and they should be taught to prescribe rationally at the earliest of their professional carrier.Methods: This cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study was carried out in SMHS hospital which is a tertiary-care teaching hospital associated with Government Medical College, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India.Results: Out of 106 resident doctors enrolled in the study, 96.2% respondents were aware about the term essential medicines of India, and 47.6% had National List of Essential Medicines of India available at their work place. When the participants were questioned about the term RUM only 17% of them responded positively, but majority of the resident doctors (88.67%) were aware about the ingredients of the drugs they use to prescribe. Though only 3.7% of our participating doctors always use essential medicines during their prescription writing but majority of them (96.22%) would always use to inform the patient regarding disease, drug therapy and monitoring of drug therapy.Conclusions: Considering the fact that respondents are future prescribers they should be aware of all aspects about RUM and improper knowledge in certain areas of RUM is a matter of concern that needs to be addressed

    The influence of sac centreline on saccular aneurysm rupture: computational study

    The geometric characteristics of a saccular aneurysm play a crucial role in its rupturing. This article thoroughly investigates the impact of the sac centerline on aneurysm rupture, with a focus on identifying significant factors related to rupture at different time intervals. The study employs comprehensive computational simulations of six models of the ICA with varying coiling porosities and blood HCTs, using CFD analysis to examine WSS, OSI, pressure, and velocity within the saccular aneurysm for different sac centerlines. The results indicate that higher blood HCT levels lead to increased WSS and pressure values on the aneurysm wall, while OSI and mean velocity decrease. The study also reveals that coiling techniques can significantly reduce the risk of rupture, as decreasing coil porosity (increasing coil permeability) increases OSI and pressure while decreasing WSS and blood velocity within the aneurysm sac

    Influence of the coiling porosity on the risk reduction of the cerebral aneurysm rupture: computational study

    The formation and progress of cerebral aneurysm is highly associated with hemodynamic factors and blood flow feature. In this study, comprehensive efforts are done to investigate the blood hemodynamic effects on the creation and growth of the Internal Carotid Artery. The computational fluid dynamic method is used for the visualization of the bloodstream inside the aneurysm. Transitional, non-Newtonian and incompressible conditions are considered for solving the Navier-Stokes equation to achieve the high-risk region on the aneurysm wall. OSI and WSS of the aneurysm wall are compared within different blood flow stages. The effects of blood viscosity and coiling treatment on these factors are presented in this work. Our study shows that in male patients (HCT = 0.45), changing the porosity of coiling from 0.89 with 0.79 would decreases maximum OSI up to 75% (in maximum acceleration). However, this effect is limited to about 45% for female patients (HCT = 0.35)
