    Experimental study on the rotating detonation engine based on a gas mixture

    A direct connection test of a rotating detonation engine was conducted. The outer and inner diameters of the annular combustors were 206 and 166 mm, respectively. High enthalpy air was used as an oxidizer, and a mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and methane was used as fuel with a volume fraction of 5/4/1. The mixture was injected through small holes, and air was injected through annular slots. The effects of combustor length, width of annular slots, and the equivalent ratio on formation, development, propagation, and flameout of rotating detonation waves were analyzed, and several modes of rotating detonation were observed. It was found that when the width of the air annular slot was within the range of 3–5 mm, the pressure of the detonation wave was augmented with an increased slot width. As width increased, detonation waves became unstable. In study test conditions, an annular slot width of 6 mm was the critical condition for the formation of stable detonation. When the slot width was 4 mm and combustor length 160 mm, the phenomena of the conversion between single and double waves, double-wave collision, and conversion of the propagation direction occurred at different equivalent ratios. When the equivalent ratio was 1.2/1 and the slot width was within the range of 3–6 mm, the slot width was inversely related to the detonation wave velocity. When the slot width was 4 mm and the equivalent ratio was 1.0/1–1.2/1, the slot width was positively correlated with the detonation wave velocity. When the combustor length was shortened to 80 mm, the propagation mode of the detonation wave was changed to a single wave first and then to a double wave in the same direction, and the velocity reduced from 1130.69 to 1024.16 m/s.     Correlation among sleep quality, physical frailty and cognitive function of the older adults in China: the mediating role

    ObjectiveTo explore the correlation among sleep quality, physical frailty, and cognitive function in the older adults in community, and to explore the mediating role of sleep quality.MethodsA total of 1,182 community-based older adults were investigated with frailty phenotype (FP), Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PISQI), Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) and self-made general information questionnaire.ResultsThe incidence of physical frailty among the older adults in the community was 25.8% and the incidence of cognitive decline was 19.5%. Cognitive function was negatively correlated with physical frailty (r = −0.236, p < 0.01) and sleep quality (r = −0.558, p < 0.01). Sleep quality was positively correlated with physical frailty (r = 0.337, p < 0.01).ConclusionThe physical frailty of the older adults has a direct prediction effect on cognitive function, and is regulated by the mediating role of sleep quality. Sleep quality partially mediates the relationship between cognitive dysfunction and physical frailty, which is a new insight into the study of cognition and physical frailty in the older adults. In the future, we can take measures to improve the sleep quality of the older adults, so as to reduce the occurrence of cognitive dysfunction and physical frailty of the older adults

    Qi-Shen-Yi-Qi Dripping Pills for the Secondary Prevention of Myocardial Infarction: A Randomised Clinical Trial

    Background. Several types of drugs have been recommended for the secondary prevention of myocardial infarction (MI). However, these conventional strategies have several limitations, such as low adherence, high cost, and side effects during long time use. Novel approaches to this problem are still needed. This trial aimed to test the effectiveness and safety of Qi-Shen-Yi-Qi Dripping Pills (QSYQ), a multi-ingredient Chinese patent medicine, for the secondary prevention of MI. Methods and Findings. A total of 3505 eligible patients were randomly assigned to QSYQ group (1746 patients) or aspirin group (1759). Patients took their treatments for 12 months. The final follow-up visit took place 6 months after the end of the trial drugs. The 12-month and 18-month estimated incidences of the primary outcome were 2.98% and 3.67%, respectively, in the QSYQ group. The figures were 2.96% and 3.81% in the aspirin group. No significant difference was identified between the groups. Conclusions. This trial did not show significant difference of primary and secondary outcomes between aspirin and QSYQ in patients who have had an MI. Though inconclusive, the result suggests that QSYQ has similar effects to aspirin in the secondary prevention of MI

    Rapid and Unconditional Parametric Reset Protocol for Tunable Superconducting Qubits

    Qubit initialization is a critical task in quantum computation and communication. Extensive efforts have been made to achieve this with high speed, efficiency and scalability. However, previous approaches have either been measurement-based and required fast feedback, suffered from crosstalk or required sophisticated calibration. Here, we report a fast and high-fidelity reset scheme, avoiding the issues above without any additional chip architecture. By modulating the flux through a transmon qubit, we realize a swap between the qubit and its readout resonator that suppresses the excited state population to 0.08% ±\pm 0.08% within 34 ns (284 ns if photon depletion of the resonator is required). Furthermore, our approach (i) can achieve effective second excited state depletion, (ii) has negligible effects on neighbouring qubits, and (iii) offers a way to entangle the qubit with an itinerant single photon, useful in quantum communication applications.Comment: 38 pages, 15 figure

    Identification of an unfolded protein response-related signature for predicting the prognosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

    BackgroundPancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive lethal malignancy. An effective prognosis prediction model is urgently needed for treatment optimization.MethodsThe differentially expressed unfolded protein response (UPR)‒related genes between pancreatic tumor and normal tissue were analyzed using the TCGA-PDAC dataset, and these genes that overlapped with UPR‒related prognostic genes from the E-MTAB-6134 dataset were further analyzed. Univariate, LASSO and multivariate Cox regression analyses were applied to establish a prognostic gene signature, which was evaluated by Kaplan‒Meier curve and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses. E‒MTAB‒6134 was set as the training dataset, while TCGA-PDAC, GSE21501 and ICGC-PACA-AU were used for external validation. Subsequently, a nomogram integrating risk scores and clinical parameters was established, and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), tumor immunity analysis and drug sensitivity analysis were conducted.ResultsA UPR-related signature comprising twelve genes was constructed and divided PDAC patients into high- and low-risk groups based on the median risk score. The UPR-related signature accurately predicted the prognosis and acted as an independent prognostic factor of PDAC patients, and the AUCs of the UPR-related signature in predicting PDAC prognosis at 1, 2 and 3 years were all more than 0.7 in the training and validation datasets. The UPR-related signature showed excellent performance in outcome prediction even in different clinicopathological subgroups, including the female (p<0.0001), male (p<0.0001), grade 1/2 (p<0.0001), grade 3 (p=0.028), N0 (p=0.043), N1 (p<0.001), and R0 (p<0.0001) groups. Furthermore, multiple immune-related pathways were enriched in the low-risk group, and risk scores in the low-risk group were also associated with significantly higher levels of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). In addition, DepMap drug sensitivity analysis and our validation experiment showed that PDAC cell lines with high UPR-related risk scores or UPR activation are more sensitive to floxuridine, which is used as an antineoplastic agent.ConclusionHerein, we identified a novel UPR-related prognostic signature that showed high value in predicting survival in patients with PDAC. Targeting these UPR-related genes might be an alternative for PDAC therapy. Further experimental studies are required to reveal how these genes mediate ER stress and PDAC progression

    Quercetin Pretreatment Attenuates Hepatic Ischemia Reperfusion-Induced Apoptosis and Autophagy by Inhibiting ERK/NF- κ

    Background. Hepatic ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury is a common phenomenon in transplantation or trauma. The aim of the present study was to determine the protective effect of quercetin (QE) on hepatic IR injury via the ERK/NF-κB pathway. Methods. Mice were randomized into the sham, IR, QE100 + IR, and QE200 + IR groups. Quercetin was administered intragastrically daily at two doses (100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg) for 5 days prior to IR injury. The expression levels of liver enzymes, inflammatory cytokines, and other marker proteins were determined at 2, 8, and 24 hours after IR. And they were compared among these groups. Results. Compared with the IR group, the treatment of QE reduced the release of cytokines, leading to inhibition of apoptosis and autophagy via downregulation of the ERK/NF-κB pathway in this model of hepatic IR injury. Conclusion. Apoptosis and autophagy caused by hepatic IR injury were inhibited by QE following a reduction in the release of inflammatory cytokines, and the relationship between the two may be associated with inactivation of the ERK/NF-κB pathway
