    This study is conducted to analyze the context of marital infidelity from novel Before I Go to Sleep and find out its negative impacts among married couple. The negative impacts which are being analyzed in this study are divorce, illness, loneliness, and emotional trauma. This study uses descriptive qualitative method because the process of the result and discussion are accomplished descriptively. The descriptive qualitative method is applied to explain the negative impacts of marital infidelity from the quotations in the novel. The result of this study is to find the implementation of marital infidelity that is still common among married couple; moreover, the implementation only brings a negative impact to one or both parties. The married couple needs to communicate continually to uncover any problem that appears as the time is passing by in order to avoid specifically divorce, loneliness, and emotional trauma

    EFFORT TO SURVIVE IN YANN MARTEL’S NOVEL LIFE OF PI

    This study deals with the analysis of the protagonist’s effort to survive in Yann Martel’s novel Life of Pi. This study focuses on three topics. The topics are reading sea survival guidebook, getting defence from the tiger and defending his life.  The novel talks about an Indian teenager, who is trapped in the middle of the fierce sea for 227 days with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. To survive, he makes several attempts. He reads survival guidebook found in the lifeboat. He gets defense from the tiger. Then, he defends a life. In this study, the theory of sea survival was applied. This study used descriptive qualitative method because the process of the result and discussion are accomplished descriptively. By applying descriptive qualitative method, this research can prove that protagonist has some efforts to survive because the topics of the protagonist's efforts to survive really exist and can be faced by the protagonist. Based on the research analysis, three efforts to survive are found in the novel. First, The protagonist,  Pi does several things to read sea survival guidebook, to get defence from the tiger, and to defend his life.

    The marriage vows spoken out through the wedding have existed for a long time. Even the first expression of love should always be remembered. The married couple, when undergoing problems in the household, must always remember the beautiful moments during the loving relationship to relieve conflicts between them. This is because people cannot erase mistakes, either intentionally done or not. This is the essence of this research, which focused on the ways to the Shangri-La marriage. Qualitative descriptive research methods were applied in this study by analyzing words, phrases and sentences in the novel Good Wives. The research found that the elements that must be owned by the couple are: phlegmatic attitude and anti-violence; responsibility and awareness of realizing their obligation; forgiving, implemented on the basis of the consideration that every human makes mistakes; and a sense of humor, an effort to cheer up life with the thought that there must be a balance in life, between tragedy and comedy, or sadness and happiness.
