    Promoting Skin Cancer Awareness

    Get PDF
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the nation and the cost to treat it is around 8 billion dollars a year. Sun exposure is linked to all three types of skin cancer and incidence of melanoma is highest in Caucasians compared to other races. In Brookfield, CT which is comprised of a predominantly Caucasian population, there is a lack of awareness of skin cancer detection and prevention. One of the best ways to promote skin cancer awareness is through education about the different types of skin cancers and sun safety behaviors. The idea is to start the conversation about skin cancer by capturing people’s attention with a visual poster. A poster is multifaceted in that patients can spend time reading it while in the waiting or exam room, can be used as instructional aide by the physician and can be transformed into a miniature handout made available for patients to take home with them. The goal is to promote skin cancer awareness so skin cancer can be detected and treated in a timely manner and patients are equipped with tips on how to minimize sun exposure.https://scholarworks.uvm.edu/fmclerk/1307/thumbnail.jp

Animating Predator and Prey Fish Interactions

Schooling behavior is one of the most salient social and group activities among fish. They form schools for social reasons like foraging, mating and escaping from predators. Animating a school of fish is difficult because they are large in number, often swim in distinctive patterns that is they take the shape of long thin lines, squares, ovals or amoeboid and exhibit complex coordinated patterns especially when they are attacked by a predator. Previous work in computer graphics has not provided satisfactory models to simulate the many distinctive interactions between a school of prey fish and their predator, how does a predator pick its target? and how does a school of fish react to such attacks? This dissertation presents a method to simulate interactions between prey fish and predator fish in the 3D world based on the biological research findings. Firstly, a model is described by representing a school of fish as a complex network information flow with structural properties. Using this model, a predator fish targeting isolated peripheral fish is simulated. Secondly, the escape behavior state machine model and escape maneuvers exhibited by fish schools are described. The escape maneuvers include compact, avoid, fast avoid, skitter, fountain, flash, ball, split, join, herd, vacuole, and hourglass are identified in the biological studies. This proposed escape behavior animation model can free an animator from dealing with the low-level animations but instead, control the fish behavior on a higher level by modifying a state machine and a small set of system parameters. With the state machine and relatively few system parameters, the proposed system is stable, predictable, and easy to tune, which represent important properties for animators to control the outcome. This system is developed in Unity (3D). In addition, a plug-in is also developed for full-fledged graphics tool Blender software to simulate escape maneuvers. The animator has to simply select escape maneuvers, adjust parameters and work on animating predator using keyframe method. It does not deal with the state machine model. The proposed model is useful not only in generating group behaviors but also in scientific visualization tool for studying fish behavior

Model Predictive Control for Grid Scale PV and Battery

    Get PDF
Model Predictive Control (MPC) is a control technique that uses prediction data to optimize costs over a given predictive horizon. There are many papers that use this technique to optimize cost in a substantially loaded microgrid, but these techniques are not feasible for utility-scale PV+Storage facility. In this study, MPC is used to optimize the cost for a utility-scale PV+Storage facility, by adding a factor of a possible curtailment. The thesis also presents the various factors that the MPC has in that utility size grid. These factors include line losses, net yield, and curtailment

Modeling of Small-Scale Wind Power System with Virtual Synchronous Generator

    Get PDF
Wind power systems are the most commonly used systems for a renewable energy source over the past few decades. Most of the current wind turbines are large scale wind turbines which produce mega watts power. This thesis is prepared to develop a small scale wind turbine with axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator for regional areas and small commercial industries. This thesis mainly focuses on the Axial Flux PMSG which is a small scale prototype with the characteristics of the large scale wind turbine generator and having a super capacitor embedded in it. The first objective is to create the dynamic wind gust model. The second objective is to study the background of the large scale wind turbine synchronous generator characteristics and to derive the equations to model the AFPMSG. The next objective is to implement the super capacitor model with a controller. The other main objective of this thesis is to design a Virtual Synchronous Generator to emulate the inertia and damping same as the conventional synchronous generator to maintain output power and the frequency stable when there is a change in the load. The model will be tested using the MATLAB-Simulink environment and the results will be discussed

In today\u27s world, finding a job is like a rat race in every professional field. The scenario is such that finding jobs that fit the skill sets and interests takes much work for job seekers. On the other side, recruiters face similar challenges in finding the finest candidate to match their requirements. Talent jet is a website with unique ingredients to solve all these challenges. Talent jet provides an easy and convenient search application for job seekers to find their desired job and recruiters to find suitable candidates. Talent jet will provide a platform where job seekers and recruiters can interact with each other irrespective of geographical barriers, with just a click. That is why Talent jet is an important project. The website is developed by our team from scratch with all the required functionality to make the website user-friendly. It will contain mainly three user roles jobseeker, recruiter, and administrator. All of them will have a different console with unique functions. Jobseekers need to set up an account with the website before applying for a position. Recruiters will post job openings and contact applicants. The administrator will manage users and job postings. The home page will be the landing page after signup and signing in. It will be very interactive with different and useful sections to navigate To develop this website, we have used reliable and robust programming language like Java, with spring boot framework for back-end. HTML, CSS, and Java script for front-end. MySQL for creating database and tables to store the data. Talent Jet will be release out and will be available to all the users from 29/11/2022, Tuesday

Managing Mysql Cluster Data Using Cloudera Impala

    Get PDF
AbstractMySQL Cluster is a widely used clustered database used to store and manipulate data which has a shared-nothing clustering for the MySql database management system providing high availability and high throughput with low latency. The problem with MySQL Cluster is that as the data grows larger, the time required to process the data increases and additional resources may be needed. With Hadoop and Impala, data processing time can be faster than MySql cluster and probably faster than Hive and Pig. This paper provides preliminary results. Evaluation results indicates that Impala achieves acceptable perfomance for some data analysis and processing tasks even compared with Hive and Pig and MySql cluster
