    Studies of oil from cowpea (vigna unguiculata ( l.) walp.) cultivars commonly grown in Pakistan

    The physiochemical properties and fatty acid ( FA) composition of oil from seeds of 4 cowpea cultivars viz., Elite, CP(1), White Star and SA dandy, commonly grown in Pakistan, were investigated. Oil contents ranged from 2.71-2.96% with triacylglycerols being present in highest amount. Iodine values were found highest in CP1 while SA dandy and CP1 excelled in saponification values and acid values, respectively. Despite variations unsaturated fatty acids were observed as being present in higher concentration in all cultivars. Among sterols, stigmasterol was present in highest amount followed by beta-sitosterol and campesterol. Among tocopherols, alpha-, and beta-tocopherols were observed as being present in highest and lowest concentrations, respectively. Results from most of the parameters revealed not significant (

    Design of Fully Homomorphic Encryption by Prime Modular Operation

    The meaning of cloud computing is the Information Technology (IT) model for computing, which consists of all the IT components (software, hardware, services and, networking) that are needed to enable the delivery and development of cloud services through a private network or the internet. In cloud computing, the client (user) puts his data in the cloud, and any computations on his stored data will be implemented in the cloud. Security is the main thing in cloud computing because a service provider can access, intentionally change or even delete the stored data. To protect data that is stored in the cloud, it is necessary to use an encryption system that can perform computations on the encrypted data. The scheme that allows executing several computations on the encrypted message without decrypting the message is called homomorphic encryption. The implementation of fully homomorphic encryption over the integer (DGHV scheme) and a Simple Fully Homomorphic Encryption Scheme Available in Cloud Computing (SDC Scheme), are slow in execution time because all of them convert the message to a binary format and then encrypt it. Therefore, we propose another scheme called Fully Homomorphic encryption based on a prime modular operation, this scheme encrypts the message character by character by using a prime secret key without converting that character into a binary format. As a result, we compute the time complexity and compare the execution time among the three schemes and analyse the security of the three schemes

    Weibull-Linear Exponential Distribution and Its Applications

    In this article, a new four-parameter lifetime distribution, namely, the Weibull-Linear exponential distribution is defined and studied. Several of its structural properties such as quartiles, moments, mean waiting time, mean residual lifetime, Renyi entropy, mode, and order statistics are derived. Based on the idea of the Weibull T − X family, the new density function of this model is developed. The model parameters, as well as some of the lifetime parameters (reliability and failure rate functions), are estimated using the maximum likelihood method. Asymptotic confidence intervals estimates of the model parameters are also evaluated by using the Fisher information matrix. Moreover, to construct the asymptotic confidence intervals of the reliability and failure rate functions, we need to find their variance of them, which are approximated by the delta method. A real data set is used to illustrate the application of the Weibull-Linear Exponential distribution

    Forecasting Remission Time of a Treatment Method for Leukemia as an Application to Statistical Inference Approach

    In this paper, Weibull-Linear Exponential distribution (WLED) has been investigated whether being it is a well - fit distribution to a clinical real data. These data represent the duration of remission achieved by a certain drug used in the treatment of leukemia for a group of patients. The statistical inference approach is used to estimate the parameters of the WLED through the set of the fitted data. The estimated parameters are utilized to evaluate the survival and hazard functions and hence assessing the treatment method through forecasting the duration of remission times of patients. A two-sample prediction approach has been applied to obtain a predictive sample based on the Bayes estimates of the parameters. The statistical inference approach is applied to the case of censored data namely Type-II hybrid censoring scheme, which is common in clinical studies

    Intraoperative Evaluation of Nasal Valve Repair Interventions: A Prospective Analysis

    Objectives: To allow for early identification and treatment of inadequate nasal valve repair interventions in the intraoperative setting, based on degree of nasal valve collapse quantified by suction-assisted pressure readings. Patient outcomes were measured by comparison of pre- and post-operative Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) surveys. Study Design: Prospective study. Methods: All enrolled patients undergo suction-assisted evaluation of nasal valve collapse before surgical intervention. Patients randomized into the experimental group underwent repeat assessment after various nasal valve interventions, compared to a control group where adequacy of interventions was assessed by palpation of the nasal ala. Results: 20 patients who underwent nasal valve repair were first randomized into control (10) or experimental (10) groups. Two patients in the control group did not receive nasal valve work due to pre-operative readings and were excluded from further analysis. Nasal valve interventions included alar rim grafts (5), spreader grafts (10), batten grafts (2), and nasal valve suture suspension (8). After nasal valve interventions, average suction reading at first sign of collapse increased by 92% (p \u3c 0.0001) and average suction reading at maximal collapse increased by 16% (p \u3c 0.0001). Pre-operative NOSE scores decreased by 55% (p \u3c 0.0001) at the first follow-up visit at 9.3±3.5 days. No patients in the experimental group required additional nasal valve interventions after repeat suction-assisted evaluations intraoperatively. Conclusion: Intraoperative suction-assisted evaluation of nasal valve collapse can help assess adequacy of nasal valve interventions and determine whether additional interventions are necessary to improve nasal valve integrity.https://jdc.jefferson.edu/otoposters/1011/thumbnail.jp

    Fat Graft for Parotidectomy Defect Reconstruction in the Setting of Malignant Disease

    Objectives: Currently, limited data examines the safety of utilizing fat transfers in the setting of malignant parotid disease. Here we evaluate the safety of fat graft reconstruction of parotidectomy defects in the setting of malignant disease. Study Design: Retrospective cohort study Methods: Electronic chart review of patients who underwent parotidectomy from 2012-2020 were reviewed. Results: Three hundred and sixty-one patients were identified at a single institution who underwent parotidectomy, and 113 (31.3%) were for malignancy. One hundred and thirty-two patients underwent fat graft reconstruction (49.2%, n=65 for umbilical, 50.8%, n=67 for dermal). One-third of patients had malignant pathology (34.8%, n=46). The most common malignant tumors were squamous cell carcinoma (n=15), acinic cell carcinoma (n=9), and mucoepidermoid carcinoma (n=6). Twenty patients (45.5%) received postoperative radiation therapy. Complications included: surgical site necrosis (13%), hematoma (4.3%), and infection (2.2%). Overall incidence of malignant recurrence was 4.4% with a mean time of follow-up of 10.3 (range 0 – 77.3) months. Incidence of malignant recurrence in the fat graft reconstruction subset was 0% with a mean follow-up of 9.8 (range 0.2 – 49.3) months. There was no association with use of fat graft and recurrence (p\u3e0.05). Conclusion: Parotidectomy defects for malignant neoplasms can be reconstructed with fat graft transfers with no impact on surveillance for disease recurrence.https://jdc.jefferson.edu/otoposters/1010/thumbnail.jp

    Avoidance of Maxillary Swing for Nasopharyngectomy via Combined Open Lateral and Endoscopic Approach

    Objectives: Nasopharyngectomy performed via a solely endoscopic approach has limitations in access and feasibility, particularly regarding management of the carotid artery. To address these limitations, we report three cases with one cadaver dissection where nasopharyngectomy was performed via a combined open lateral an endoscopic approach. We highlight the benefits and technical considerations for this operative technique. Study Design: Case Series Methods: Patients diagnosed with recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) that underwent combined open lateral and endoscopic nasopharyngectomy from 2016-2020 were analyzed. A cadaver dissection was also performed. Results: We present the details of the approach and follow-up in three patients with recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Briefly, a preauricular incision is extended down to the neck. The zygoma and mandibular ramus can be removed and replaced if required. V3, the pterygoid plates and the eustachian tube can be resected or mobilized. The carotid artery may be identified proximally in the neck and traced to the skull base, where the carotid canal may be drilled to the level of the foramen lacerum and protected with a pledget. Then, tumor mucosal cuts are made via an endoscopic endonasal approach and connected to the lateral exposure. No carotid artery injuries occurred. Conclusion: The combined open lateral approach and endoscopic nasopharyngectomy technique is a useful technique in salvage patients.     Zika virus impairs the development of blood vessels in a mouse model of congenital infection

    Zika virus (ZIKV) is associated with brain development abnormalities such as primary microcephaly, a severe reduction in brain growth. Here we demonstrated in vivo the impact of congenital ZIKV infection in blood vessel development, a crucial step in organogenesis. ZIKV was injected intravenously in the pregnant type 2 interferon (IFN)-deficient mouse at embryonic day (E) 12.5. The embryos were collected at E15.5 and postnatal day (P)2. Immunohistochemistry for cortical progenitors and neuronal markers at E15.5 showed the reduction of both populations as a result of ZIKV infection. Using confocal 3D imaging, we found that ZIKV infected brain sections displayed a reduction in the vasculature density and vessel branching compared to mocks at E15.5; altogether, cortical vessels presented a comparatively immature pattern in the infected tissue. These impaired vascular patterns were also apparent in the placenta and retina. Moreover, proteomic analysis has shown that angiogenesis proteins are deregulated in the infected brains compared to controls. At P2, the cortical size and brain weight were reduced in comparison to mock-infected animals. In sum, our results indicate that ZIKV impairs angiogenesis in addition to neurogenesis during development. The vasculature defects represent a limitation for general brain growth but also could regulate neurogenesis directly
