The Fornax Spectroscopic Survey I. Survey Strategy and Preliminary Results on the Redshift Distribution of a Complete Sample of Stars and Galaxies
The Fornax Spectroscopic Survey will use the Two degree Field spectrograph
(2dF) of the Anglo-Australian Telescope to obtain spectra for a complete sample
of all 14000 objects with 16.5<=Bj<=19.7 in a 12 square degree area centred on
the Fornax Cluster. By selecting all objects---both stars and
galaxies---independent of morphology, we cover a much larger range of surface
brightness and scale size than previous surveys. In this paper we present
results from the first 2dF field. Redshift distributions and velocity
structures are shown for all observed objects in the direction of Fornax,
including Galactic stars, galaxies in and around the Fornax Cluster, and for
the background galaxy population. The velocity data for the stars show the
contributions from the different Galactic components, plus a small tail to high
velocities. We find no galaxies in the foreground to the cluster in our 2dF
field. The Fornax Cluster is clearly defined kinematically. The mean velocity
from the 26 cluster members having reliable redshifts is 1560+/-80 km/s. They
show a velocity dispersion of 380+/-50 km/s. Large-scale structure can be
traced behind the cluster to a redshift beyond z=0.3. Background compact
galaxies and low surface brightness galaxies are found to follow the general

This report presents the results of striped bass (Morone saxatilis) tagging and monitoring activities in Virginia during the period 1 September 2013 through 31 August 2014. It includes an assessment of the biological characteristics of striped bass taken from the 2014 spring spawning run, estimates of annual survival and fishing mortality based on annual spring tagging, and the results of the study that documents the prevalence of mycobacterial infections of striped bass in Chesapeake Bay. Also included is information on gear selectivity of recreational anglers for striped bass and on impacts of dermal mycobacteriosis on striped bass. Excited-state dynamics of a two-photon-activatable ruthenium prodrug
We present a new approach to investigate how the photodynamics of an octahedral ruthenium(II) complex activated through two-photon absorption (TPA) differ from the equivalent complex activated through one-photon absorption (OPA). We photoactivated a RuII polypyridyl complex containing bioactive monodentate ligands in the photodynamic therapy window (620â1000â
nm) by using TPA and used transient UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy to elucidate its reaction pathways. Density functional calculations allowed us to identify the nature of the initially populated states and kinetic analysis recovers a photoactivation lifetime of approximately 100â
ps. The dynamics displayed following TPA or OPA are identical, showing that TPA prodrug design may use knowledge gathered from the more numerous and easily conducted OPA studies

Teaching and learning intuition: Some implications for HRD and coaching practice
Purpose: examine conceptual and theoretical links between intuition and coaching; investigate accomplished coachesâ practical experiences of intuition; identify skill set of an intuitive coach; discuss implications of findings for coachesâ, HRD professionals and line managersâ learning and development.
Method and Sample: in-depth, semi-structured, individual interviews with 14 accomplished experienced executive coaches (eight males and six females) averaging 14.5 years as a coach.
Findings: outline of core attributes of an intuitive coach.
Implications: immersion in experience, a reflective approach to practice, effective feedback and supervision, and attending to personal well-being are likely to enable coaches, HRD practitioners and line managers to take a more informed and intelligent approach to âgoing with their gutâ in coaching situations
