    Rapid removal of Ni(II) from aqueous solution using 3-Mercaptopropionic acid functionalized bio magnetite nanoparticles

    AbstractThe surfaces of bio magnetite nanoparticles were functionalized with 3-Mercaptopropionic acid (3MPA) and used as a high-capacity and recyclable adsorbent for the rapid removal of Ni(II) from aqueous solution. The 3 MPA@Fe3O4 MNPs were characterized by Fourier transformed infrared analysis (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analysis. This 3 MPA@Fe3O4 MNPs have been used for removal of Ni(II) from aqueous solution. The hysteresis loops of 3 MPA@Fe3O4 MNPs shows an excellent ferromagnetic behavior with saturation magnetization value of 14.02emu/g. The adsorption isotherm data were fitted well to Langmuir isotherm, the monolayer adsorption capacity was found to be 42.01mg/g at 303K. The experimental kinetic data fitted very well the pseudo-second-order model.The results indicate that the biogenic 3 MPA@Fe3O4 MNPs act as significant adsorbent material for removal of Ni(II) aqueous solution and also considered as a potential adsorbent for hazardous metal ions from wastewater

    The Application of Taguchi Technique in Mild Steel Weld Prediction and Optimization

    Welding is a key joining operation in many production and manufacturing industries, and it requires a scientific approach in obtaining a weld of high quality. This study focuses on the prediction and optimization of the weld parameters of a mild steel plate using Taguchi technique. For experimental examination, a mild steel plate of 10mm thickness, along with input process parameters such as weld current, arc voltage, gas flow rate, and output process parameter such as hardness were studied.  With the statistical tool, ANOVA, further analysis performed to determine the significance of the data obtained shows that for all the responses, a Model F-value of between 64 and 129.85 was obtained, along with a P-value less than 0.05, implying that the model is significant. Furthermore, based on statistical evidence using P-values, all the model terms; welding current, arc voltage and gas flow rate recorded significant contribution to the outcome of the welding experiment, with the weld current having the most significant effect. The optimal result for the responses was obtained 192BHN for the hardness, at a combined process parameters as follows; 200amps, 20v and 20lt/min for the weld current, arc voltage and gas flow rate respectively

    Determination of Proximate, Ultimate and Structural Properties of Elephant Grass as Biomass Material for Bio-oil Production

    Elephant grass was analyzed for its chemical properties, proximate, ultimate and structural composition and high heating value using the American Standard for Testing and Materials. (ASTM) methods. Results of proximate analysis showed moisture and ash content, fixed carbon and volatile matter content to be 0.85%, 5.86%, 14.22% and 79.24% respectively. The composition of ultimate analyses showed carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur content to be 54.44%, 5.59%, 0.67%, 40.95% and 0.35% respectively. The results of structural analyses showed cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin and high heating value to be 46.26%, 29.90%, and 24.60% and 18.52MJ/kg respectively. The results of proximate, ultimate and structural analyses and high heating value showed an indication that the elephant grass is suitable for pyrolysis process because a relatively higher bio-oil yield would be expected

    The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of using problem posing technique in improving students reading comprehension to the first semester students of the English Education Program Students of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Tanjungpura University Pontianak, thus the appropriate method applied was pre-experimental research. The data was obtained by using measurement technique in form of multiple choice tests consisted of 20 items which was applied in Pre-Test and Post-Test. The sample consisted of 25 students. The finding of this research showed that Problem Posing Technique was effective to teach reading comprehension. The t-test (3,18) is higher than the t-table (2,06) on the level of significance 5%. Based on the computation of effect size, the use of Problem Posing Technique was effective to increase the student ability in comprehending the text, the score of ES > 0,9 and categorized as high

    Teaching reading for specific purposes requires proper teaching and learning materials as the materials play significant roles in teaching process. The present, reading materials for Public Health students of Muhammadiyah University of Pontianak are still very far from students' need. This study aimed at developing a model of reading materials for Public Health students. Using a development study of ADDIE instructional design of Dick and Carrey, twenty five second semester students of Health Sciences Faculty, Muhammadiyah University of Pontianak, participated in this study. The results revealed that the reading materials that were developed in ADDIE model were accepted by both experts and the students. The materials aligned to the learning aims, covered the student-centered activity, Public Health topic, easy to difficult vocabulary level, student-centered activity and glossary study, and provided in graded and assorted tasks. It is highly expected that this study will encourage the lecturers of English subject to be more active in developing qualified teaching materials as both lecturers and students will be helpful and facilitative with the product

    Identification Students' Difficulties In Writing Hortatory Exposition Among High Intermediate Level

    This research aims to identify students' difficulties in writing hortatory exposition text at high intermediate level in Gajahmada English course. The method used is a descriptive study. The sample of the study is 10 students at high intermediate level of Gajahmada English course. The tool of data collecting was a written test that the students wrote hortatory exposition text. The finding showed the average of students' score is “60.2” which is categorize “Difficult”. In grammar, students difficulties in arranging the tense and the compound-complex sentences. In mechanic, students difficulties in spelling, punctuation and word choice. In vocabulary, students difficulties in using of personal noun, abstract noun, general noun, action verb, verb, adverb and adjectives. In content, students able wrote the text, but their difficulties on the relevant details among thesis, arguments and recommendation. Keywords: Identification, students' difficulties, hortatory exposition Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi kesulitan siswa menulis teks hortatory exposition pada level high intermediate di bimbingan belajar Gajahmada. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif. Peserta penelitian adalah siswa bimbingan belajar Gajahmada level high intermediate, terdapat 10 peserta sebagai sampel. Alat mengumpulkan data yaitu sebuah tes tertulis, yakni siswa menulis teks hortatori exposisi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata nilai 60,2 dikategorikan “sulit”. Struktur bahasa, siswa kesulitan menyusun struktur kalimat dan penggunaan kalimat majemuk setara – bertingkat. Mekanisme penulisan, siswa kesulitan dalam ejaan, tanda baca, dan pilihan kata. Kosakata, siswa kesulitan menggunaan kata ganti orang, kata ganti abstrak, kata benda umum, kata kerja, kata keterangan, kata sifat. Untuk isi, siswa dapat menulis teks, tapi kesulitan pada relevansi antara ide pokok, pendapat, dan rekomendasi

    Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana pengembangan model micro teaching calon guru di Sekolah Tinggi Pastoral Santo Agustinus Keuskupan Agung Pontianak? Dengan tujuan untuk menemukan model micro teaching yang dapat digunakan dalam pemecahan masalah lokal di Sekolah Tinggi Pastoral Santo Agustinus Keuskupan Agung Pontianak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan model di Sekolah Tinggi Pastoral Santo Agustinus Keuskupan Agung Pontianak. Instrument utaman penelitiannya adalah penulis, dibantu dengan alat perekam, lembar observasi, dan daftar pertanyaan wawancara. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriftif kualitatif. Dari penelitian tersebut dihasilkan sebuah model pembelajaran micro teaching, yaitu Model Core Teaching sandard yang mengacu pada pembelajaran konstruktivistik.
