    The Off-forward Quark-Quark Correlation Function

    Get PDF
The properties of the non-forward quark-quark correlation function are examined. We derive constraints on the correlation function from the transformation properties of the fundamental fields of QCD occurring in its definition. We further develop a method to construct an ansatz for this correlator. We present the complete leading order set of generalized parton distributions in terms of the amplitudes of the ansatz. Finally we conclude that the number of independent generalized parton helicity changing distributions is four.Comment: Accepted for publication in Physical Review

Koordinasi Tim Pora Dalam Pengawasan Tenaga Kerja Asing Legal Tenaga Pendidik Di Kota Medan

The PORA team is a team consisting of several agencies that have duties and functions related to the presence and activities of foreigners. The coordination between the PORA Team and the Manpower Office is to strengthen the supervision of foreign workers from administration to field supervision, but internally, the PORA Team still has problems. This study aims to identify and describe the coordination of the PORA Team in the supervision of legal TKA educators in Medan City. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study indicate that coordination in the supervision of foreign workers requires an approach between members and inter-institutional meetings. In the agency's business indicators, the coordination of the PORA Team caused internal problems due to a lack of understanding of the main tasks and functions of the members. In the unit of action indicator, the existence of sectoral egos such as the Manpower Office acts by itself in the supervision of foreign workers. On the indicators of shared goals, the agencies that are members of the PORA Team designate Immigration as their leading sector. However, there are findings in the field, that there is an agency under the auspices of the Medan City Government which forms a Foreigner Monitoring Team

Foraging Behavior of Tetramorium Caespitum in an Urban Environment: the Effect of Food Quality on Foraging

Animals\u27 foraging strategies are directly related to their fitness. Proposed models of optimal foraging assume that animals strategize in terms of maximizing benefits over the cost of acquiring resources. Ants are social insects that are comparable in biomass to humans inhabiting the plant. As such, it is crucial to understand the foraging strategies of such an influential member of the ecosystem. With the ever-increasing rate of urbanization and human encroachment, it is even more important to consider the foraging patterns of species inhabiting urban areas. In this study we investigate optimal foraging strategies in the pavement ant, Tetramorium caespitum. Specifically, our study examined if pavement ant colonies would alter their foraging behavior so as to maximize benefits and minimize costs. To do this, we exposed the ants to food of two varying nutritional qualities to test how they allocated foragers across these two resources.Food quantity, distance to the food source and terrain were the same in both types of resources. Across a two day period, we saw that T. caespitum colonies increased ant recruitment when food quality increased and decreased ant recruitment when food quality decreased. Our control treatments where food quality did not change also did not see a change in ant recruitment. This study shows that species that live in urban areas, such as T. caespitum, can adapt to forage optimally. Studies like this can be used to make predictions about survival of species that are newly associated with urban environments

Assessment of Severity Measures used to Predict Prognostic Outcomes in Children with TBI: A Case Report

    Get PDF
Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the number one cause of death and disabilities in the pediatric population. Various injury severity measures are used for patients with TBIs in order to predict expected outcomes. The purpose of this case report is to assess the stark differences in progression and functional outcomes of two children with TBIs who presented similarly at baseline using various severity measures. Case Descriptions: Both patients were admitted into inpatient rehabilitation on the same day and presented similarly at baseline: with Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM) scores of 19 and 18 for Patients A and B, respectively. Yet, they progressed differently during their time in rehab. Patient A was a 53-month-old female who suffered from a left-sided subdural hematoma with blown pupil on her left side and a right-sided skull fracture as a result of a non-accidental trauma. Patient B was a 45-month- old female who had a right-sided subdural hematoma, multifactorial intracranial hemorrhage, pneumocephalus with multiple skull fractures and facial fractures, small left pneumothorax, and a transverse process fracture of the second lumbar vertebrae as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Outcome Measure: The raw WeeFIM scores were used to calculate each patient’s WeeFIM developmental functional quotient (DFQ). At discharge, the WeeFIM DFQ score for Patient A was 71.87% but only 18.81% for Patient B. The severity measures outlined in this case report include the time from injury to admission into inpatient rehabilitation (TTA), the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), duration of post traumatic amnesia (PTA), total duration of impaired consciousness (TFC+PTA), and the time to follow command (TFC). Discussion: This case report highlights that the severity measures that were available for each patient would have helped create more accurate predictions for each patient’s functional outcomes than simply the WeeFIM score. These predictions are useful when creating treatment plans and educating families on expected outcomes

From Foster Care to Adulthood: Success Stories

Youth between the ages of 18-21 leaving the foster care system typically face poor outcomes when transitioning into adulthood. This “aging-out” population encounters many challenges, including lack of adult support, financial instability, poor educational/vocational opportunities and outcomes, and lack of safe and affordable housing. Older youth exiting the foster care system are more likely to experience unplanned pregnancy, unemployment, criminal justice involvement and substance use. Additionally, youth who have been in foster care are at increased risk for behavioral and mental health difficulties after leaving foster care (Courtney el al., 2007; Stein, 2006; Freundlich & Avery, 2008). Yet, despite the preponderance of evidence for poor outcomes and the seemingly insurmountable challenges faced by this population, a number of youth leave the foster care system and are able to lead satisfying, productive lives. This qualitative study used intensive interviews to explore the trajectory of a small number of youth who have transitioned out of foster care, outlining the social, economic and psychological barriers they faced while also charting the attitudes, behaviors and experiences that allowed them to successfully exit the foster care system and move toward productive adult lives. Results of the study suggest that successes among this population are hard-won and tenuous. Ultimately the youth in this study were able to overcome obstacles and navigate the transition to adulthood by tapping both internal strengths and external resources, including the ability to reconcile and move beyond disappointments, connect with others, and take advantage of available sources of support
