Correlation between facial lipofilling and hyaluronic acid filling languages

    Get PDF
Introduction: As has been demonstrated, volume loss is a primary cause of aging appearance. So, the demand for filling materials that are safe, long-lasting, and biocompatible has grown, increasing the emphasis on lipografting. However, some issues regarding standardization are still unclear, like areas to be injected and volumes. So, the main objective is to analyze the results of a case series and systematize the filler volumes to be used and correlate the language used in facial lipografting with that used in MD Codes®. Methods: Review the medical records of those who underwent facial fat grafting. Selection of donor area was proceeded based on convenience criteria, which assesses the ease of positioning, the abundance of material, and the patient’s body contour. Harvesting was by manual aspiration. Preparation was done by Colemans’ technique. Application areas: To draw a parallel between the knowledge acquired with facial lipografting and the fillings using synthetic material, the nomenclature used in MD Codes® was used. Results: 54 facial lipografting were included (11% men / 88.88% women). The average age is 43.94 years (20 to 71, standard deviation 11.21). Follow-up average time was 155.61 days (range 7-543, standard deviation 156.05). There were no complications related to the method. The mean volume injected was 29.83ml (range 6-53.9, standard deviation 12.07). Conclusion: Autologous lipografting is a feasible procedure for certain cases of facial rejuvenation. The MD Codes® language can be used in parallel with the anatomical description of the injected regions in this study

Introduction: The use of quality of life questionnaires has proved to be very useful in giving greater objectivity to evaluating treatment results. The internationalization of these instruments, in turn, allows for interpopulation comparison but requires a specific methodology in order not to cause distortions due to failures in translation or cultural differences. The Blepharoplasty Outcomes Evaluation questionnaire, in English, is a simple application tool with objective questions with a good application for this purpose. The questionnaire has already been tested for reliability, validity and responsiveness. Methods: According to the methodology proposed by Beaton et al., translation and cultural adaptation into Portuguese was performed with 5 stages. Stage 1 - translation by two native Portuguese-speaking translators. Stage 2 - preparation of the synthesis version. Stage 3 - reverse translation by two native English-speaking translators. Stage 4 - review by an evaluation committee. Stage 5 - application to a population of 20 people. Results: There were no comprehension problems for the final population from the evaluation committee. Conclusion: The questionnaire was successfully translated and adapted

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the costs of hysterectomies performed in Brazil due to benign conditions, and to assess its hospital admittance and mortality rates. METHODS: A retrospective cohort was carried out from January 2010 to December 2014, analyzing all hysterectomies (n = 428,346) registered on the DATASUS database between January 2010 and December 2014. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 for Windows. RESULTS: Hospital admissions were 300,231 for total abdominal hysterectomies, 46,056 for vaginal hysterectomies, 29,959 for subtotal abdominal hysterectomies and 1,522 for laparoscopic hysterectomies. Mortality rates were 0.26%, 0.09%, 0.07% and 0.05% for subtotal, total abdominal, laparoscopic, and vaginal hysterectomies, respectively. Among the procedures studied, total abdominal hysterectomies had the most costs (R217,802,574.77),followedbyvaginalhysterectomies(R217,802,574.77), followed by vaginal hysterectomies (R24,173,490.00), subtotal abdominal hysterectomies (R19.253.300,00)andlaparoscopichysterectomies(R19.253.300,00) and laparoscopic hysterectomies (R794,680.40). CONCLUSIONS: Total abdominal hysterectomies had the highest overall costs mainly because it was the most commonly performed technique. Mortality rates were greatest in subtotal abdominal hysterectomies; this, however, may be due to bias related to missing data in our database
