Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based car parking system

    Get PDF
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is widely used in various applications such as attendance system, tracking system, monitoring system or parking system. Currently, the existing parking system used manual entrance through security guard to access the premise. Therefore, the company need to hire security guard to monitor the premise. In addition, the security guards need to monitor all movement of vehicle or person that enter or leave the premise. As a result, unauthorized vehicle or person can easily access the building. To address this problem, we proposed a parking system using RFID technology that can monitor vehicle’s movement that enter or leave the specific area or place by scanning the RFID tag. The potential benefit is it can improve security for both security guards and users. Besides that, this parking system can facilitate access control for users and improve traffic flow during peaks period. There are five modules in the proposed parking systems which are user registration, vehicle registration, RFID tag, staff and report generation

Mechanical properties of concrete containing palm oil fuel ash and modified expanded polystyrene beads as replacement materials using finite element method

Nowadays, so much waste material was dumped and produced by the industrial sector. In this research, the Palm Oil Fuel Ash (POFA) and Modified Expanded Polystyrene beads (EPS) were used as replacement material. The purpose of this research was to focus on replacement of the modified expanded polystyrene beads (EPS) as a fine aggregate and the palm oil fuel ash (POFA) as a cement in term of mechanical properties of concrete. For Modified EPS will replace with aggregate from 10.0 % and 20.0 % While, for POFA will replace with cement from 10.0 %, 20.0 % and 30.0 %. The data of the material replacement for POFA and Modified EPS will be taken from previous study. Furthermore, the concrete cubes will be analyzed using software called ABAQUS. ABAQUS software is used because this software can measure the concrete cubes in such detail. This test will be performed on a cube that has reached the age of 28 days by following the previous experimental results. In addition, the software can also validate the work for the stress and strain of the graph by analyzing the concrete cubes. Information on Modified EPS and POFA can be filled in this software. Furthermore, it can also analyze mechanical properties of concrete that containing. Modified EPS and POFA. Indirectly, this will help compare the strength of concrete cube that containing of Modified EPS and POFA

Data understanding for flash flood prediction in urban areas

Flash flood has become one of the major disastrous events, especially in urban areas in Malaysia. It has become more prominent to city dwellers, causing massive loss of infrastructures, damage to people, and disruption in business and daily activities. Population growth and rapid development of urban areas have worsened the situation even more. Since the era of Big Data, the possibility to analyse complex data coming from heterogeneous sources, which can be used to predict flash flood, has given a different perspective and hope for finding innovative ways to reduce the impact of flood, especially in urban areas. The purpose of this study is to understand data needed to produce predictive visual analytics for flash flood forecasting using Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM) Methodology. Focusing on understanding the flash flood data, this paper intends to characterize data pertaining to disaster management and identify the right data that can facilitate more accurate decision making by stakeholders. Literature review was done to determine which data are needed in the Malaysian urban setting. The research found the critical factors for determining flash flood occurrence in Malaysia are unique due to the tropical climate and urbanization. Therefore, it is important to understand and characterize these factors for more effective and accurate data collection and predictive analytics later. Based on the findings, the most significant factors identified for flash flood prediction are rainfall, urbanization, and fluvial flood which eventually lead to blocked drainage. Details of data under these categories will be analysed as part of data understanding of flash flood occurrence. This study intends to uncover the potential of using Predictive Visual Analytics in flood forecasting and also to discuss how prediction can bring values to the Malaysian environment and create a sustainable ecosystem

Mycopharmaceuticals from basidiomycetes represent a promising source of new antimicrobials to overcome the challenges of multidrug-resistant bacteria. Here we report for the first time the in vitro activity of aurisin A, a dimeric sesquiterpenoid isolated from wild bioluminescent basidiomycetes Neonothopanus nambi DSM 24013, against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Aurisin A revealed strong anti-MRSA activity with minimum inhibitory concentration 7.81 μg/mL against ATCC 33591 and ATCC 43300 reference strains, and BD 16876 and BD 15358 clinical strains. Activity against the clinical strains is 10- to 40-fold higher than that of the antibiotic fusidic acid. Furthermore, aurisin A proved to be more potent (MIC 3.91 μg/mL) in inhibiting growth of vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (VISA) ATCC 700699 and displayed a rapid time-dependent bactericidal activity against MRSA (complete killing within 1 h). Additionally, aurisin A and oxacillin combination displayed synergy with notable decrease in the MICs of both compounds against MRSA. Notable synergism was also observed in combinations with linezolid and fusidic acid. Our findings indicate that aurisin A is a promising candidate for developing therapeutic agents against multidrug-resistant S. aureus and warrants further investigation
