Ten slotte word hierdie probleem toegelig aan die hand van die ontwerpkenmerke van WAT Deel XIV.Sleutelwoorde: Woordeboekresensies, woordeboekbeskrywingskriteria, woordeboekevalueringskriteria, die vorm, inhoud en operasionalisering van leksikografiese evalueringskriteria, ontwerpkenmerke van WAT Deel XIVEvaluation criteria and the interaction between lexicographic theory and practice; the design of the Woordeboek van die Afrikaanse Taal as case studyThe compilers of the various volumes of the WAT have relied on input from various co- workers, of which dictionary reviewers form an important group. However, a common problem with the evaluation of dictionaries of various kinds (cf. Nielsen 2006, 2009 and Swanepoel 2008, 2013) is that reviews only provide an analysis and description of the design features of dictionaries and not also an evaluation based on a set of clearly formulated and motivated criteria for the evaluation of dictionaries. This problem, the distinction between criteria for the description and evaluation of the design features of dictionaries, and the content, structure and operationalization of lexicographic evaluation criteria, are discussed in this article, taking especially Feinauer (2007), Gouws (2007, 2011, 2014), Gouws and Prinsloo (2005), Nielsen (2006, 2009) and Svensén (2009) as point of departure. Finally, this lexicographic problem is discussed with reference to the design features of WAT Volume XIV.Keywords: Dictionary reviews, dictionary description criteria, dictionary evaluation criteria, the form, content and operationalization of lexicographic evaluation criteria, design features of WAT, Volume XI
Breeding biology of the bush veld gerbil Tatera leucogaster in relation to diet, rainfall and life history theory
The breeding habits of the bush veld gerbil Tatera leucogaster were examined in relation to rainfall and diet. Breeding is seasonal and associated with regular summer rainfall. The duration of the breeding season is variable, which is indicative of a temporally dynamic reproductive strategy. Litter size is large, and the punctuated iteroparity of T. leucogaster is associated with a xeric environment. The reproductive tactics of T. leucogaster are discussed in relation to other gerbils and rodents exhibiting similar reproductive strategies. Tatera leucogaster is a selective feeder on transient but seasonally available insects and seeds, but feeds on herbage when preferred foods are unavailable.S. Afr. J. Zool. 1987, 22(3

The contribution of fatty acids to the composition of the total lipids in juvenile Cape hake fillets - research
Published ArticleDue to the decline in fish stocks more juvenile fish are being caught. The aim of this study was to investigate the contribution of short and medium chain length fatty acids to the composition of the total lipids in juvenile Cape hake fillets and the impact thereof the nutritional value. The fatty acids that most contributed to the total fatty acid composition were palmitic acid (C16:0) (46.52%), docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6) (25.68%) and stearic acid (C18:0) (9.4%). Saturated fatty acid contribution to the total lipid content was found to be higher than reported in literature in other hake species and no eicosapentaenoic acid was detected. Eicosanoic acid, was detected only in the medium sized hake fillets, indicating reduced nutritional value in juvenile hake fillets. The challenges of the fishing industry is thus not only to control the sustainability of fish resources, but also the size of the total allowable catch to ensure the best nutritional level
Superficial brachial artery: a possible cause for idiopathic median nerve entrapment neuropathy
Nerve entrapment syndromes occur because of anatomic constraints at specific locations in both upper and lower limbs. Anatomical locations prone to nerve entrapment syndromes include sites where a nerve courses through fibro-osseous or fibromuscular tunnels or penetrates a muscle. The median nerve (MN) can be entrapped by the ligament of Struthers; thickened biceps aponeurosis; between the superficial and deep heads of the pronator teres muscle and by a thickened proximal edge of flexor digitorum superficialis muscle. A few cases of MN neuropathies encountered are reported to be idiopathic. The superficial branchial artery (SBA) is defined as the artery running superficial to MN or its roots. This divergence from normal anatomy may be the possible explanation for idiopathic MN entrapment neuropathy.
This study presents three cases with unilateral presence of the SBA encountered during routine undergraduate dissection at the University of Johannesburg. Case 1 — SBA divided into radial and ulnar arteries. Brachial artery (BA) terminated as deep brachial artery. Case 2 — SBA continued as radial artery (RA). BA terminated as ulnar artery (UA), anterior and posterior interosseous arteries. Case 3 — SBA continued as UA. BA divided into radial and common interosseous arteries.
Arteries that take an unusual course are more vulnerable to iatrogenic injury duÂring surgical procedures and may disturb the evaluation of angiographic images during diagnosis. In particular, the presence of SBA may be acourse of idiopathic neuropathies
Exploring the theoretical link between cultural and emotional intelligence: A system analysis for human resource management
In light of increasing globalisation and a changing workforce, the ability to bridge cultural fissures separating diverse groups will be increasingly critical to sustained work place well-being, especially with relation to global competitiveness and economic growth. This article explores the link between cultural and emotional intelligence in an effort to investigate the possibility of measuring, developing, and effectively managing individual responses to cultural influences that give rise to significant tension within the organisational context. Since South Africa’s heterogeneous workforce is characterised by culturally diverse group interaction, the conceptualisation of a cross-cultural facet of intelligence with emotional-management as reciprocal component has practical implications towards optimal intercultural organisational harmony, effective globalised interaction and overall group-dynamics
