Income related inequalities in self assessed health in Britain: 1979-1995
Study objective: To measure and decompose income related inequalities in self assessed health in England, Scotland, and Wales, 1979-1995. Design: The relation between individual health and a non-linear transformation of equivalised income, allowing for sex, age, country, and year effects, was estimated by multiple regression. The share of health attributable to transformed income and the Gini coefficient for transformed income were calculated. Inequality in health was measured by the partial concentration index, which is the product of the. Gini coefficient and the share of health attributable to transformed income. Participants and setting: Representative annual samples of the adult population living in private households in Great Britain 1979-1995. The total analysed sample was 299 968 people. Main results: Pro-rich health inequality was largest in Wales and smallest in England over the period because the effect of increased income on health was greatest in Wales and least in England. In all three countries, pro-rich health inequality increased throughout the period. In the early 1980s this was primarily attributable to increases in income inequality. Thereafter the increased share of health attributable to income was the principal cause. Conclusions: Reductions in pro-rich health inequality can be achieved by reducing income inequality, reducing the effect of income on health, or both
Plants for predators - a participatory experiment
Encouraging natural enemies by growing attractant plants is a highly effective method of pest control in organic systems. However, it is important to establish which plants are most effective at attracting benefi cial insects. Experiments were carried out by 179 HDRA members, who grew four plant species (Coriander, Corn Marigold, Fennel and Phacelia) in their gardens and allotments. Over the course of the growing season, assessments were made on the growth and flowering of the plants and the presence of four key groups of beneficial insect (ladybirds, hoverflies, lacewings and parasitic wasps). Phacelia established quickly and its long flowering period meant it attracted insects throughout the summer. However, Phacelia was only the most attractive plant at the end of the season and insects preferred the other trial plants when they were in flower. Results highlight the importance of growing a range of flowering plants to provide resources for beneficials throughout their activity period

Solid amine compounds were examined as possible absorbents for removal of carbon dioxide in life support systems of type which may be employed in high altitude aircraft, spacecraft, or submarines. Many solid amine compounds release absorbed carbon dioxide when heated in vacuum, therefore, when properly packaged spent amine compounds can be readily regenerated and put back into service

Understanding structure of concurrent actions
Whereas most work in reinforcement learning (RL) ignores the structure or relationships between actions, in this paper we show that exploiting structure in the action space can improve sample efficiency during exploration. To show this we focus on concurrent action spaces where the RL agent selects multiple actions per timestep. Concurrent action spaces are challenging to learn in especially if the number of actions is large as this can lead to a combinatorial explosion of the action space.
This paper proposes two methods: a first approach uses implicit structure to perform high-level action elimination using task-invariant actions; a second approach looks for more explicit structure in the form of action clusters. Both methods are context-free, focusing only on an analysis of the action space and show a significant improvement in policy convergence times
Low-speed aerodynamic characteristics of a 0.08-scale YF-17 airplane model at high angles of attack and sideslip
Data were obtained with and without the nose boom and with several strake configurations; also, data were obtained for various control surface deflections. Analysis of the results revealed that selected strake configurations adequately provided low Reynolds number simulation of the high Reynolds number characteristics. The addition of the boom in general tended to reduce the Reynolds number effects
