Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the level of knowledge and awareness about metabolic syndrome (Met S) and its components among the 1st year physiotherapy students and also the difference in the level of knowledge and awareness among male and female students. Methods: A self-administered structured questionnaire consisting of 90 questions about components of Met S was distributed among 38 students studying 1st year physiotherapy at Apollo College of Physiotherapy, Hyderabad, after obtaining a written consent from them. The data extracted were tabulated, statistically analyzed and results were obtained. Results: Physiotherapy students have good knowledge about types and causes of diabetes and poor knowledge about symptoms, biochemical process, and complications of Met S. They expressed poor knowledge to understand the link between hypertension and pregnancy. They could understand the role of hereditary factors only in diabetes but not in other components. Conclusion: Met S is a common disorder in the society; therefore, the awareness should be raised among the student population and as paramedics, it is their responsibility to communicate with the public about the risk factors and complications associated with it and counsel them to adopt a healthy lifestyle to protect themselves from the complications

The series of novel thiazole derivatives (4-5) have been synthesized. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H, 13C NMR, mass spectra. All the lead compounds were tested for antimicrobial activity. The compound 5f having chloro substituent on the aromatic ring displays greater antimicrobial activity particularly against P. aeruginosa and P. crysogenum. © 2020 Author(s).The authors G. Brain-Targeted Intranasal Delivery of Zotepine Microemulsion: Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics

    Get PDF
The purpose of our study was to improve the solubility, bioavailability, and efficacy of zotepine (ZTP) by brain-targeted intranasal delivery of microemulsion (ME) and its physicochemical properties, the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters were evaluated. The optimized ME formulations contain 10% w/w of oil (Capmul MCM C8, monoglycerides, and diglycerides of caprylic acid), 50% w/w of Smix (Labrasol and Transcutol HP, and 40% w/w of water resulting in a globule size of 124.6 ± 3.52 nm with low polydispersity index (PDI) (0.212 ± 0.013) and 2.8-fold higher permeation coefficient through porcine nasal mucosa compared to pure drug). In vitro cell line studies on RPMI 2650, Beas-2B, and Neuro-2A revealed ZTP-ME as safe. ZTP-ME administered intranasally showed higher AUC0–t24 (18.63 ± 1.33 h × µg/g) in the brain by approximately 4.3-fold than oral ME (4.30 ± 0.92 h × µg/g) and 7.7-fold than intravenous drug solutions (2.40 ± 0.36 h × µg/g). In vivo anti-schizophrenic activity was conducted using catalepsy test scores, the formulation showed better efficacy via the intranasal route; furthermore, there was no inflammation or hemorrhage in the nasal cavity. The results concluded that the ZTP microemulsion as a safe and effective strategy could greatly enhance brain distribution by intranasal administration

Meglumine Sulphate: an Efficient Catalyst for the Synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes

The reaction of indoles with carbonyl compounds in the presence of 5mol% Meglumine Sulphate (MS) in acetonitrile was executed to synthesize bis(indolyl)methane derivatives using conventional and ultrasonication methods. The reaction proceeded in shorter reaction time in ultrasonication methodology leading to high yield of the products. © 2020 Author(s)

A meglumine catalyst–based synthesis, molecular docking, and antioxidant studies of dihydropyrano[3, 2-b]chromenedione derivatives

A simple method was employed for the synthesis of dihydropyrano[3, 2-b]chromenedione derivatives (4a-o) in high yields by condensation of 5, 5-dimethylcyclohexane-1, 3-dione(1), different aromatic aldehydes (2a-o), and 5-hydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)-4H-pyran-4-one(3), using meglumine as a stable and reusable catalyst. Meglumine, an amino sugar, was employed as an environmentally benign catalyst, due to its splendid properties such as being inexpensive, recyclable, and biodegradable. The accomplished protocol employs low catalyst loading and easy work-up for the synthesis of 5-hydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)-4H-pyran-4-one derivatives. A great asset is that without any significant loss, the catalyst could be recovered and reused for extended synthetic steps. This offer huge advantage to overcome recyclability issues. Our synthesized compounds were analyzed by IR, 1H, 13C NMR, mass spectra and evaluated for their antioxidant properties by 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl radical (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide(H2O2), and nitric oxide (NO) scavenging methods. The correlation in exhibition of antioxidant activity was effective at all doses. The binding interactions and molecular docking studies for entitled compounds were studied against 3MNG protein; 4k exhibited marked binding affinity with excellent docking score of −7.6 Kcal/mol and emerged as a lead compound. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Ural Federal University, UrFUThe authors G. Get PDF
Background. Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) also termed pseudotumor cerebri syndrome (PTCS). It mainly affects young overweight women of the reproductive age group. There is a scarcity of literature on IIH among the Indian population. Objective. To evaluate the clinical, demographic profile, laboratory parameters and outcomes of Idiopathic Intracranial hypertension (IIH) patients. Materials and method. The current study was a prospective observational study on 43 patients who were diagnosed as primary PTCS presenting to the neurology department of Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute from December 2019 to August 2021. Patients were assessed for BMI, papilledema, CSF manometry, MRI brain with MR venography was done. Co-guide software, V.1.03, was used for statistical analysis. Results. The mean age was 33.12 ± 12.29 years (ranged 14 to 55) in the study population. There were 5(11.63%) males and 38(88.37%) females. The mean BMI was 26.72 ± 3.56 kg/m2 (ranged from 17.40 to 34.20). The mean duration of headache was 28.41 ± 26.23 days (ranged 3 to 120) in the study population, and 39(90.69%) had papilledema. The mean CSF manometry was 29.6 ± 5.88(ranged from 16 to 42) cmH2O. Conclusion. In the Indian subcontinent, obesity may not be considered as a major risk factor in the causation of IIH
