WOS:000304107200001This study proposes a biometric system for personal identification based on three biometric characteristics from the hand, namely: the palmprint, finger surfaces and hand geometry. A protection scheme is applied to the biometric template data to guarantee its revocability, security and diversity among different biometric systems. An error-correcting code (ECC), a cryptographic hash function (CHF) and a binarisation module are the core of the template protection scheme. Since the ECC and CHF operate on binary data, an additional feature binarisation step is required. This study proposes: (i) a novel identification architecture that uses hand geometry as a soft biometric to accelerate the identification process and ensure the system's scalability; and (ii) a new feature binarisation technique that guarantees that the Hamming distance between transformed binary features is proportional to the difference between their real values. The proposed system achieves promising recognition and speed performances on two publicly available hand image databases.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Exigência térmica e caracterização fenológica da videira Syrah no Vale do Rio São Francisco.

    Get PDF

Bayesian analyses of five gene regions reveal a new phylogenetic species of Macrophomina associated with charcoal rot on oilseed crops in Brazil.

Macrophomina is a genus belonging to Botryosphaeriaceae that comprises well-known necrotrophic pathogens related to hundreds of plant hosts around the world. Historically, M. phaseolina is the causal agent of charcoal rot in several crops, mainly in tropical and subtropical areas around the world. However, after a recent genetic diversity study using morphological and molecular approaches, which resulted in the epitypification of M. phaseolina, and the description of a new Macrophomina species associated with charcoal rot disease, the hypothesis that other cryptic species could be present under the name M. phaseolina was raised. Previous studies in Brazil revealed a high genetic diversity and different levels of aggressiveness of M. phaseolina isolates associated with charcoal rot in oilseed crops. Thus, the aim of the present study was, through phylogenetic and morphological studies, to determine if isolates of Macrophomina obtained from different oilseed crops represent a single species or distinct taxa. Based on the results obtained, it was possible to identify three different Macrophomina species: M. phaseolina, M. pseudophaseolina and a new phylogenetic species, M. euphorbiicola. This is first report of M. pseudophaseolina in Brazil causing charcoal rot on Arachis hypogaea, Gossypium hirsutum and Ricinus communis and associated with seed decay of Jatropha curcas. In addition, a novel species described in the present study, M. euphorbiicola, is reported as the etiological agent of the charcoal rot on R. communis and Jatropha gossypifolia

Nonfactorization in Hadronic Two-body Cabibbo-favored decays of D^0 and D^+

With the inclusion of nonfactorized amplitudes in a scheme with Nc=3N_c=3, we have studied Cabibbo-favored decays of D0D^0 and D+D^+ into two-body hadronic states involving two isospins in the final state. We have shown that it is possible to understand the measured branching ratios and determined the sizes and signs of nonfactorized amplitudes required.Comment: 15 pages, Late

DRY BEAN CULTIVAR IAC ALVORADA UNDER DIFFERENT RATES OF \u3ci\u3eRHIZOBIUM\u3c/i\u3e INOCULANT IN THE PLANTING FURROW

INTRODUCTION: No publications were found regarding liquid inoculation in the planting furrow of dry bean, which indicates a demand for investigations to assist the producer in deciding which method of inoculation to adopt. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the viability of liquid inoculation in the planting furrow and determine the best application rate of inoculant, using the dry bean cultivar IAC Alvorada. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A field experiment was conducted in a no-till planting system in the 2014/2015 crop season in a Latossolo Vermelho distrófico in the municipality of Lambari, MG, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks with three replications and eight treatments, involving five application rates of liquid inoculant in the planting furrow (0, 120, 240, 480, and 720 mL ha-1), liquid seed inoculation (40 mL kg-1), and two controls without inoculation: one with N-urea (80 kg ha-1 N, ½ at sowing and ½ in topdressing, between the V3 and V4 stages of the crop cycle) and another without mineral N. The experimental unit (14.4 m2) consisted of six four-meter-length rows, spaced at 0.6 m, and the area effectively used was the four central rows. All the plots received base fertilization of 110 kg ha-1 of P2O5 (simple superphosphate) and 40 kg ha-1 of K2O (potassium chloride), mechanically applied during furrowing. In addition, all levels of inoculation received 20 kg Nurea ha-1, so as to meet the recommendations of Soares et al. (2016). Sowing was manual at the density of 15 seeds per meter and the cultivar used was IAC Alvorada, of semi-upright plant architecture and moderate resistance to anthracnose (Carbonell et al., 2008)
