The objective of this study was to investigate the changes in some biochemical indices and the changes in antioxidant enzyme activities in wheat seedlings in presence of different amounts of cadmium. Two varieties of wheat were studied (Triticum aestivum L.cv. Dropia and cv. Alex) Obtained results illustrate that cadmium uptake was positively correlated with antioxidant enzyme activities, lipid peroxidation, proline and phenols content. Measurement of oxidoreductase activity, especially peroxidase and studied biochemical indices might be used as biomarkers to asses the phytotoxicity for wheat grown on cadmium contaminated media.INTRODUCTIO

In this study, we report a bottom-up approach for silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesis using aqueous decoction of aerial parts of Clematis vitalba L. The phytosynthesized AgNPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-vis spectroscopy, Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and Bright Field Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (BFSTEM). The cytogenotoxicity and phytotoxicity assays of AgNPs were assessed by using Allium test, Evans blue and 2, 3, 5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining, root and stem growth potential, and biomass evaluation. The results revealed that AgNPs were in the size range of 1-15 nm and spherical shape. The biosynthesized AgNPs augment the mitodepressive effect, disruption of cellular metabolism, impairment of root and stem growth, and biomass reduction induced by C. vitalba aqueous extracts. These results outline the toxicological profile of the C. vitalba extracts, as well as of the phytogenerated AgNPs and provides scientific perspectives on the use of C. vitalba extracts as reducing and stabilizing agent for the phytosynthesis of metallic nanoparticles

The antimoderns of the romanian literature

The purpose of this thesis is to apply to Romanian literature Antoine Compagnon’s theory upon antimodernity, as it is formulated in his study Les antimodernes. De Joseph de Maistre à Roland Barthes (Gallimard, 2005). We analyze the theory of „forms without substance”, the main illustration of the modernity-antimodernity debate in the Romanian culture, as well as different profiles of Romanian authors, such as Titu Maiorescu, Vasile Alecsandri, Ion Luca Caragiale, Beniamin Fundoianu (Benjamin Fondane), Mircea Eliade, Emil Cioran. The thesis also deals with the perception of Charles Baudelaire in Romanian literature, which further reflects the issues of modernity and its denial.I would like to thank both coordinators of my thesis for the support and kindness shown during our colaboration in the last four years

[EN] A lexico-grammatical study of a corpus compiled of news articles about the 2011 political crisis in Egypt. The objective is to identify, analyze and interpret the syntactic role and scope of sentence adverbs, nouns and verbs in the corpus. This is followed by a closer study of collocation and patterns of semantic preference of the adverbials. The analysis of the corpus was possible with the help of two major linguistic programs, Wmatrix and WordSmith.[ES] Se trata de un analisis léxico-gramatical de corpus compilado de artículos de noticia sobre la crisis política de 2011 en Egipto. (2011). On the use of homogeneous polynomials to develop anisotropic yield functions with applications to sheet forming

This paper investigates the capabilities of several non-quadratic polynomial yield functions to model the plastic anisotropy of orthotropic sheet metal (plane stress). Fourth, sixth and eighth-order homogeneous polynomials are considered. For the computation of the coefficients of the fourth-order polynomial an improved set of analytic formulas is proposed. For sixth and eighth-order polynomials the identification uses optimization. Simple constraints on the optimization process are shown to lead to real-valued convex functions. A general method to extend the above plane stress criteria to full 3D stress states is also suggested. Besides their simplicity in formulation, it is found that polynomial yield functions are capable to model a wide range of anisotropic plastic properties (e.g., the Numisheet’93 mild steel, AA2008-T4, AA2090-T3). The yield functions have then been implemented into a commercial finite element code as constitutive subroutines. The deep drawing of square (Numisheet’93) and cylindrical (AA2090-T3) cups have been simulated. In both cases excellent agreement with experimental data is obtained. In particular, it is shown that non-quadratic polynomial yield functions can simulate cylindrical cups with six or eight ears. We close with a discussion on earing and further examples

The aim of this study was to determine the physiological response and the defensive potential in species Asplenium scolopendrium L. and Dryopteris filix-mas (L.) Schott under the action of nickel. The following experimental variants were tested: 0, 250, 500, 1000, 1500 mg Ni kg-1soil. One month, and three months respectively, after the initiation of the experiment, the amount of assimilating pigments was determined. One month after the initiation of the experiment, there were no significant differences between the variants with Ni and the control as far as the content of chlorophyll (a and b) and carotenoids was concerned. The results obtained three months after the inception of the experiment indicate that, at low concentrations, Ni stimulates the synthesis of chlorophyll. In the same period there occurred antioxidant mechanisms: increase in the amount of carotenoids and increased activity of catalase. In the species Dryopteris filix-mas, the variant with 1.000 mg Ni kg-1soil, the amount of chlorophyll was significantly reduced, and the catalase activity was 3 times higher than that obtained in the control group

    APPLICATIONS OF PTERIDOPHYTES IN PHYTOREMEDIATION

    No full text
It is considered that ferns could present new adaptations to the action of stress factors as a result of the wide geographical spread and the diversity of the habitats in which they vegetate, adaptations that could allow them, among other things, hyper-accumulation of metals. This article aims at a brief overview of the results obtained in experimental research aimed at using pteridophytes in phytoremediation
