Influence of Protein Electromagnetic Field on Hydrogen Bonding
The quantum-mechanical mechanisms by which the enzymes catalyze the hydrogen
transfer in biochemical reactions are considered. Up to date it was established
both experimentally and theoretically that in many cases the proton tunnelling
through the intermolecular potential barrier is essential. We argue that in
this case the enzyme excitation and internal motion facilitate proton transfer
between reactants by squeezing the potential barrier which otherwise is
practically impenetrable. In the similar fashion, the enzymes can facilitate
the formation of hydrogen (H) bonds between the molecules. By means of barrier
squeezing, the enzymes not only facilitate such reactions but also can control
their rate and their final outcome, depending of enzyme excitation. In
particular, such effects can play the major role in DNA polymerization
reactions where preliminary DNTP selection is quite important.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur
Laparoscopic plastic of inguinal hernias
The problem of surgical treatment of inguinal hernias over the last 25 years has gone through global changing. Tension free correction of defects of the anterior abdominal wall with using of synthetic prostheses are now the undisputed favorites in the treatment of inguinal hernias. After Lichtenstein operation, Laparoscopic hernia repair now occupies the second place in the structure of operations for inguinal hernias.
During the period from 2011 performed 149 laparoscopic hernia repair TAPP, of which 19 patients with recurrent hernias, after autoplasty (10) and alloplasty by Liechtenstein (9) and 11 with bilateral hernias. The authors did not mention severe intra-or postoperative complications, as well as the conversion to open surgery at failure during laparoscopic surgery. From intraoperative complications they met more often bleeding (4). The greatest technical difficulties arose in damage of inferior epigastric vessels. In the postoperative period they met next complication: most frequent groin hematoma (4), neuralgia (2) and paresthesias (5), pain in humeroscapular area (4). The laparoscopic techniques of hernia repair are effective, pathogenetically substantiated, provides a comfortable postoperative period and the possibility of early rehabilitation
On a classification of E. coli promoters according to their electrostatic potential
Classiˇcation of promoters and other functionally important genome fragments according to their nucleotide sequences and physicochemical properties is a key factor for understanding gene transcription, replication, recombination and their regulation. The classiˇcation of genome promoters is usually performed on the basis of analysis of their primary structures. However, such an approach does not allow one to obtain a simple answer because it is the physicochemical properties of DNA that control the process of gene transcription and its regulation. Electrostatic interactions comprise an essential component of those processes. This work presents the approach that allows computation of electrostatic potentials of long nucleotide sequences of DNA for both procaryotic and eucaryotic species. The elecrtostatic potentials of E. coli promoters and periodic sequences were calculated. We suppose that the electrostatic characteristics of the genome promoters together with primary structure provide their reliable classiˇcation.
Quantum physics meets biology
Quantum physics and biology have long been regarded as unrelated disciplines,
describing nature at the inanimate microlevel on the one hand and living
species on the other hand. Over the last decades the life sciences have
succeeded in providing ever more and refined explanations of macroscopic
phenomena that were based on an improved understanding of molecular structures
and mechanisms. Simultaneously, quantum physics, originally rooted in a world
view of quantum coherences, entanglement and other non-classical effects, has
been heading towards systems of increasing complexity. The present perspective
article shall serve as a pedestrian guide to the growing interconnections
between the two fields. We recapitulate the generic and sometimes unintuitive
characteristics of quantum physics and point to a number of applications in the
life sciences. We discuss our criteria for a future quantum biology, its
current status, recent experimental progress and also the restrictions that
nature imposes on bold extrapolations of quantum theory to macroscopic
phenomena.Comment: 26 pages, 4 figures, Perspective article for the HFSP Journa
