Spectral reflectance measurements of a virus host model
A technique has been developed to detect the characteristic spectral signatures of healthy and infected St. Augustine grass. It is possible to predict the coverage of the infected area provided ground truth coverage shows positive St. Augustine grass turf. Qualitative measurements from photographs of plants in the blue and red regions with polarization show that light reflected from healthy plants is more strongly polarized than that from diseased plants. Photographs taken through the blue Wratten 47 filter in conjuction with a polarizer show an excellent differentiation. A large photographic difference also appears in the red region. Much smaller differences were noted in the 540 to 550 nm region. Although the intensity in the near-IR region is much higher than the visible region of the spectrum, differences in the healthy and diseased plants' reflectance were quite small
All-sky signals from recombination to reionization with the SKA
Cosmic evolution in the hydrogen content of the Universe through
recombination and up to the end of reionization is expected to be revealed as
subtle spectral features in the uniform extragalactic cosmic radio background.
The redshift evolution in the excitation temperature of the 21-cm spin flip
transition of neutral hydrogen appears as redshifted emission and absorption
against the cosmic microwave background. The precise signature of the spectral
trace from cosmic dawn and the epoch of reionization are dependent on the
spectral radiance, abundance and distribution of the first bound systems of
stars and early galaxies, which govern the evolution in the spin-flip level
populations. Redshifted 21 cm from these epochs when the spin temperature
deviates from the temperature of the ambient relic cosmic microwave background
results in an all-sky spectral structure in the 40-200 MHz range, almost wholly
within the band of SKA-Low. Another spectral structure from gas evolution is
redshifted recombination lines from epoch of recombination of hydrogen and
helium; the weak all-sky spectral structure arising from this event is best
detected at the upper end of the 350-3050 MHz band of SKA-mid. Total power
spectra of SKA interferometer elements form the measurement set for these faint
signals from recombination and reionization; the inter-element interferometer
visibilities form a calibration set. The challenge is in precision polarimetric
calibration of the element spectral response and solving for additives and
unwanted confusing leakages of sky angular structure modes into spectral modes.
Herein we discuss observing methods and design requirements that make possible
these all-sky SKA measurements of the cosmic evolution of hydrogen.Comment: Accepted for publication in the SKA Science Book 'Advancing

Magnetic phenomena at and near nu =1/2 and 1/4: theory, experiment and interpretation
I show that the hamiltonian theory of Composite Fermions (CF) is capable of
yielding a unified description in fair agreement with recent experiments on
polarization P and relaxation rate 1/T_1 in quantum Hall states at filling nu =
p/(2ps+1), at and near nu = 1/2 and 1/4, at zero and nonzero temperatures. I
show how rotational invariance and two dimensionality can make the underlying

Essential Incompleteness of Arithmetic Verified by Coq
A constructive proof of the Goedel-Rosser incompleteness theorem has been
completed using the Coq proof assistant. Some theory of classical first-order
logic over an arbitrary language is formalized. A development of primitive
recursive functions is given, and all primitive recursive functions are proved
to be representable in a weak axiom system. Formulas and proofs are encoded as
natural numbers, and functions operating on these codes are proved to be
primitive recursive. The weak axiom system is proved to be essentially
incomplete. In particular, Peano arithmetic is proved to be consistent in Coq's

Role of neutral metabolites in microbial conversion of 3ß-acetoxy-19-hydroxycholest-5-ene into estrone
Biotransformation of 3ß-acetoxy-19-hydroxycholest-5-ene (19-HCA, 6 g) by Moraxella sp. was studied. Estrone (712 mg) was the major metabolite formed. Minor metabolites identified were 5α-androst-1-en-19-ol-3,17-dione (33 mg), androst-4-en-19-ol-3,17-dione (58 mg), androst-4-en-9α,19-diol-3,17-dione (12 mg), and androstan-19-ol-3,17-dione (1 mg). Acidic metabolites were not formed. Time course experiments on the fermentation of 19-HCA indicated that androst-4-en-19-ol-3,17-dione was the major metabolite formed during the early stages of incubation. However, with continuing fermentation its level dropped, with a concomitant increase in estrone. Fermentation of 19-HCA in the presence of specific inhibitors or performing the fermentation for a shorter period (48 h) did not result in the formation of acidic metabolites. Resting-cell experiments carried out with 19-HCA (200 mg) in the presence of α,α'-bipyridyl led to the isolation of three additional metabolites, viz., cholestan-19-ol-3-one (2 mg), cholest-4-en-19-ol-3-one (10 mg), and cholest-5-en-3ß,19-diol (12 mg). Similar results were also obtained when n-propanol was used instead of α,α'-bipyridyl. Resting cells grown on 19-HCA readily converted both 5α-androst-1-en-19-ol-3,17-dione and androst-4-en-19-ol-3,17-dione into estrone. Partially purified 1,2-dehydrogenase from steroid-induced Moraxella cells transformed androst-4-en-19-ol-3,17-dione into estrone and formaldehyde in the presence of phenazine methosulfate, an artificial electron acceptor. These results suggest that the degradation of the hydrocarbon side chain of 19-HCA does not proceed via C22 phenolic acid intermediates and complete removal of the C17 side chain takes place prior to the aromatization of the A ring in estrone. The mode of degradation of the sterol side chain appears to be through the fission of the C17-C20 bond. On the basis of these observations, a new pathway for the formation of estrone from 19-HCA in Moraxella sp. has been proposed
Performance analysis and comparison of m x n zero forcing and MMSE equalizer based receiver for mimo wireless channel
Wireless transmission is affected by fading and interference effects which can be combated with equalizer.The useof MIMO system promises good improvement in terms of spectral efficency,link relaibility andSignal to Noise Ratio (SNR).The effect of fading and interference always causes an issue for signal recovery in wireless communication. Equalizationcompensates for Intersymbol Interference (ISI) created by multipath within time dispersive channels. This paper analyses theperformance of Zeroforcing and MMSE equalizer for MIMO wireless chaneels. The simulation results are obtained usingMatLab tool box version 7.0 at RF signal processing lab.The Bit Error Rate (BER) characteristics for the various transmittingand receiveing antennna is simulated in matlab tool box and many advantages and disdvantagesof the system is descrbed.The simulation results show that the equalizer based zero forcing receiver is good for noise free channel and is successfulin remving ISI,but MMSE is a better choice than ZF in terms of BER charateristics and under Noise performance
Rotating fermions in two dimensions: Thomas Fermi approach
Properties of confined mesoscopic systems have been extensively studied
numerically over recent years. We discuss an analytical approach to the study
of finite rotating fermionic systems in two dimension. We first construct the
energy functional for a finite fermionic system within the Thomas-Fermi
approximation in two dimensions. We show that for specific interactions the
problem may be exactly solved. We derive analytical expressions for the
density, the critical size as well as the ground state energy of such systems

Anti-Inflammatory Potential of Ethanolic Leaf Extract of Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng. Through Alteration in Production of TNF-α, ROS and Expression of Certain Genes
Search for a novel anti-inflammatory agent from a herbal source, such as Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng., a plant from the Eastern Himalayas, is of prime interest in the present investigation. Inflammation causes tissue destruction and development of diseases such as asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and so forth. The ethanolic leaf extract of E. adenophorum (EEA) was administered intravenously and in other cases topically at the site of delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) reaction in mouse foot paw induced with dinitrofluorobenzene. EEA can effectively inhibit DTH reaction and bring back normalcy to the paw much earlier than the controls. Efficacy of EEA on regulatory mechanisms for inflammation has also been considered. Intravenous administration of EEA increased the number of CD4+ T cells in spleen and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in serum of DTH mice. Initially it was difficult to reconcile with the anti-inflammatory role of EEA and simultaneous induction of TNF-α, an established pro-inflammatory cytokine. EEA induces higher expression of TNF-α gene and amount of the cytokine in serum. We discussed the other role of TNF-α, its involvement in repairing tissue damage incurred in course of inflammatory reaction. EEA also induces TGF-β encoding a cytokine involved in tissue repair mechanism. EEA inhibits expression of another pro-inflammatory cytokine gene IL-1β and downregulates cycloxygenase 2 (COX2) gene responsible for metabolism of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins. Furthermore, anti-inflammatory role of EEA is also revealed through its inhibition of hydroxyl radical generation. Notably EEA does not necessarily affect the expression of other inflammation-related genes such as IL-6, IL-10 and IKK.
