This study evaluated the nutrient concentration
of cultivars Brachiaria brizantha and estilosantes
'Campo Grande' in cropping and intercropping
systems under different planting methods, for a
period of two years. The experimental design was
a complete randomized block, with measurements
repeated over time, with four replications which
treatments consisted of the following systems:
estilosantes 'Campo Grande'; 'Xaraés' grass;
'Marandu' grass in monocropping or intercropped
with estilosantes 'Campo Grande' in rows or at
broadcast. The evaluations were conducted for
two years in fall, winter, spring and summer on the
same plots. The results showed that intercropping
grass and legume influences the nutritional status
of forage improving nutrient concentration. In ge-
neral, the rows planting provided better nutrient
concentrations.Objetivou-se avaliar a concentração de
nutrientes de cultivares de Brachiaria brizantha
e estilosantes 'Campo Grande' em cultivo solteiro
e consorciado sob diferentes métodos de plantio,
por um período de dois anos. O delineamento
experimental utilizado foi de blocos completos ao
acaso, com medidas repetidas no tempo, com
quatro repetições, cujos tratamentos foram consti-
tuídos dos seguintes sistemas: estilosantes 'Cam-
po Grande', capim 'Xaraés' e capim 'Marandu'
solteiros ou consorciados com estilosantes, em
linha ou à lanço. As avaliações foram realizadas
durante dois anos por estações (outono, inverno,
primavera e verão) nas mesmas parcelas. Os
resultados demonstraram que a consorciação
entre gramínea e leguminosa influencia no estado
nutricional das forrageiras, por trazer melhoria na
concentração dos nutrientes. No geral, o método
GO) Use potential and structural quality of two soils under sugarcane production in Goianésia, Goiás State, Brazil
With the expansion of the sugar/alcohol sector, the native vegetation was removed from soils with few limitations as well as with great risks for intensive cultivation and the areas incorporated in the production process. Therefore, the adoption of management systems that maintain the soil structure may be a key for the maintenance of the quality and sustainability of sugarcane production systems. The objective of this study was therefore to evaluate the use potential for sugarcane and structural quality of a Dystrophic Haplic Cambisol (CXvbd) (Inceptisol) and Dystrophic Red-Yellow Latosol (LVAd) (Oxisol), in the county of Goianésia, Goiás State. The soils of each area were classified for their use capacity. Disturbed soil samples were collected at depths corresponding to the surface and subsurface diagnostic horizons, for chemical and physical-hydric characterization. Undisturbed samples were collected (from the layers 0-0.05, 0.1-0.15 and 0.3-0.4 m) to determine soil porosity, water retention curves, the least limiting water range and preconsolidation pressure. The evaluation of soils by the land use capacity system indicated that CXvbd belongs to class IVe and LVAd to IIIs. Results of the analysis of the chemical and physical-hydric attributes of the CXvbd indicated that a continuous sugar-cane cultivation, despite the classification as IVe in the use potential system, was due to the adoption of agricultural terraces, aside from the fact that the degrees of soil revolving was lower and of soil cover higher, when sugarcane was harvested green The water availability for plants was highest for CXvbd, which tends to be advantageous for crops. In the study conditions, the LVAd was most susceptible to compaction, which requires limitations of machinery traffic
Qualidade física de neossolo quartzarênico submetido a diferentes sistemas de uso agrícola Physical quality of quartzarenic neosol submitted to different systems of agricultural use
A manutenção da cobertura vegetal do solo é considerada medida-chave para exploração agropecuária nessas áreas.<br>In spite of the existence of descriptive information on sandy soils in tropical areas, information regarding management and conservation is scarce. The present study aimed at evaluating changes in the physical-hydric attributes of Orthic Quartzarenic Neosol resulting from use and management having in view the definition of sustainable management systems. The study was carried out in the municipal district of Mineiros, GO, in areas submitted to five systems of use and management of the soil: pasture (PAS), soybeans under no-till (PDS), corn under no-till (PDM), agriculture-livestock integration (IAP), and native savannah (NSAV). Five samples were collected per area, at the depths of 0-10 and 10-20 cm, in the winter of 2005 and in the summer of 2006, for evaluation of bulk density, micro and macroporosity, and saturated soil hydraulic conductivity. The physical-hydric attributes evaluated did not vary within the sampling period. Microporosity values indicate low retention of the water available to the plants. Agricultural land use of the soil promoted alterations in all the appraised attributes. The macroporosity of the soil was the attribute most sensitive to structural changes resulting from management, but it did not, however, present values considered limiting to plant growth. The reduction of saturated soil hydraulic conductivity in human activity areas endangered the quality of the soil and it can affect the recharge of the water table and increase the erosive process. Maintenance of the soil covering is considered the key measure for agricultural exploration in these areas
