O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes horários de colheita no teor e composição do óleo essencial da erva-cidreira brasileira (Lippia alba (Mill.) N.E. Brown), quimiotipo limoneno-carvona, nas estações chuvosa e seca do Ceará. As folhas foram colhidas às 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 e 17 horas. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições de 500 g de folha fresca. Na estação seca, a obtenção de óleo essencial foi superior à estação chuvosa. Immunization and Aging: a Learning Process in the Immune Network

The immune system can be thought as a complex network of different interacting elements. A cellular automaton, defined in shape-space, was recently shown to exhibit self-regulation and complex behavior and is, therefore, a good candidate to model the immune system. Using this model to simulate a real immune system we find good agreement with recent experiments on mice. The model exhibits the experimentally observed refractory behavior of the immune system under multiple antigen presentations as well as loss of its plasticity caused by aging.Comment: 4 latex pages, 3 postscript figures attached. Coherent State Path Integrals in the Weyl Representation

We construct a representation of the coherent state path integral using the Weyl symbol of the Hamiltonian operator. This representation is very different from the usual path integral forms suggested by Klauder and Skagerstan in \cite{Klau85}, which involve the normal or the antinormal ordering of the Hamiltonian. These different representations, although equivalent quantum mechanically, lead to different semiclassical limits. We show that the semiclassical limit of the coherent state propagator in Weyl representation is involves classical trajectories that are independent on the coherent states width. This propagator is also free from the phase corrections found in \cite{Bar01} for the two Klauder forms and provides an explicit connection between the Wigner and the Husimi representations of the evolution operator.Comment: 23 page

Processamento de folhas de Lippia alba visando a maximização da produção de limoneno e carvona.

O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes períodos de secagem natural de folhas de Lippia alba, quimiotipo limoneno-carvona, nas estações chuvosa e seca, no óleo essencial e seus constituintes. Foram avaliados sete períodos de secagem (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 e 16 dias). Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições, de 500 g de folha fresca. Determinou-se o teor de óleo essencial e de seus constituintes majoritários. Na estação seca, a obtenção de óleo essencial foi numericamente superior à estação chuvosa. Em ambos os casos, o rendimento foi crescente até o quarto dia, decrescendo em seguida. Thermal entanglement witness for materials with variable local spin lengths

We show that the thermal entanglement in a spin system using only magnetic susceptibility measurements is restricted to the insulator materials. We develop a generalization of the thermal entanglement witness that allows us to get information about the system entanglement with variable local spin lengths that can be used experimentally in conductor or insulator materials. As an application, we study thermal entanglement for the half-filled Hubbard model for linear, square and cubic clusters. We note that it is the itinerancy of electrons that favors the entanglement. Our results suggest a weak dependence between entanglement and external spin freedom degrees.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Ising Spin Glass in a Transverse Magnetic Field

We study the three-dimensional quantum Ising spin glass in a transverse magnetic field following the evolution of the bond probability distribution under Renormalisation Group transformations. The phase diagram (critical temperature $T_c$ {\em vs} transverse field $\Gamma$) we obtain shows a finite slope near $T=0$, in contrast with the infinite slope for the pure case. Our results compare very well with the experimental data recently obtained for the dipolar Ising spin glass LiHo$_{0.167}$Y$_{0.833}$F$_4$, in a transverse field. This indicates that this system is more apropriately described by a model with short range interactions than by an equivalent Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model in a transverse field.Comment: 7 pages, RevTeX3, Nota Cientifica PUC-Rio 23/9

Levantamento dos recursos vegetais utilizados como fitoterápicos no Município de cujubim, Rondônia, Brasil.

Grande parte da população brasileira não tem acesso aos medicamentos sintéticos. Em Rondônia, esta situação é ainda mais grave, devido ao isolamento geográfico e social em que se encontra a maioria dos 52 municípios do Estado. Neste contexto, a fitoterapia apresenta-se como alternativa para promover a melhoria da qualidade de vida das populações, valendo-se do conhecimento popular e da vegetação local para o tratamento das afecções. O objetivo deste trabalho foi promover o resgate do conhecimento sobre plantas utilizadas na medicina popular no Município de Cujubim-RO, a partir de um levantamento etnobotânico. Foram realizadas entrevistas acerca do modo de uso, dose preconizada, parte do vegetal utilizada, seu modo de preparo e indicação terapêutica, além de coleta e identificação taxonômica das plantas. Foram obtidas 540 citações de utilização das plantas, sendo identificados mais de 50 tipos de doenças. As mais citadas foram as relacionadas com o aparelho respiratório, infecções em geral, doenças do aparelho digestivo, infecções intestinais, ferimentos, verminoses e complicações neurológicas. As plantas mais utilizadas foram: Mentha pulegium, Plectranthus barbatus, Mentha sp., Arrabidaea chica, Chenopodium ambrosioides, Anacardium occidentale, Gossipium hirsitum, Plectranthus amboinicus, Aloe vera, Psidium guajava, Citrus sinensis e Lippia alba.
