The Influence Of Jordanian Efl Undergraduates' Online Reading Habits On Their Academic Achievement
This study is descriptive and exploratory in nature. The aim of this study was
to investigate the influence of online reading habits on Jordanian EFL
undergraduates' academic achievement. Besides, this study aimed at exploring
students' online reading purposes and their language preference while reading online.
It also attempted to find out whether their reading habits differ when reading online
from those of printed text. This study employed a mixed-method (quantitative and
qualitative) approache. The independent variable was online reading, while the
moderate variables were students' gender, age, educational level, computer and
internet familiarity, hours spent online, and employment. The dependent variables
were students' reading habits and purposes, their language preference, and academic
achievement. A total of 258 (M = 145, F = 113) students from Yarmouk University
in Jordan, majoring in English Language and Literature were randomly selected. A
86-item questionnaire adapted and modified from Shen (2006) was used to
investigate the online reading habits and purposes of Jordanian EFL undergraduates.
Semi-structured interviews were also conducted
A novel adaptive schema to facilitates playback switching technique for video delivery in dense LTE cellular heterogeneous network environments
The services of the Video on Demand (VoD) are currently based on the developments of the technology of the digital video and the network’s high speed. The files of the video are retrieved from many viewers according to the permission, which is given by VoD services. The remote VoD servers conduct this access. A server permits the user to choose videos anywhere/anytime in order to enjoy a unified control of the video playback. In this paper, a novel adaptive method is produced in order to deliver various facilities of the VoD to all mobile nodes that are moving within several networks. This process is performed via mobility modules within the produced method since it applies a seamless playback technique for retrieving the facilities of the VoD through environments of heterogeneous networks. The main components comprise two servers, which are named as the GMF and the LMF. The performance of the simulation is tested for checking clients’ movements through different networks with different sizes and speeds, which are buffered in the storage. It is found to be proven from the results that the handoff latency has various types of rapidity. The method applies smooth connections and delivers various facilities of the VoD. Meantime, the mobile device transfers through different networks. This implies that the system transports video segments easily without encountering any notable effects. In the experimental analysis for the Slow movements mobile node handoff latency (8 Km/hour or 4 m/s) ,the mobile device’s speed reaches 4m/s, the delay time ranges from 1 to 1.2 seconds in the proposed system, while the MobiVoD system ranges from 1.1 to 1.5. In the proposed technique reaches 1.1026 seconds forming the required time of a mobile device that is switching from a single network to its adjacent one. while the handoff termination average in the MobiVoD reaches 1.3098 seconds. Medium movement mobile node handoff latency (21 Km/ hour or 8 m/s) The average handoff time for the proposed system reaches 1.1057 seconds where this implies that this technique can seamlessly provide several segments of a video segments regardless of any encountered problems. while the average handoff time for the MobiVoD reaches 1.53006623 seconds. Furthermore, Fast movement mobile node handoff latency (390 Km/ hour or 20 m/s). The average time latency of the proposed technique reaches 1.0964 seconds, while the MobiVoD System reaches to 1.668225 seconds
The Ottoman Empire Procedures in Preventing Zionism Infiltration to Jerusalem in the Reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II District of the (1876-1909)
The current study is seeking to answer one main question which is: Did the Ottoman take proper and critical procedures to prevent Zionism infiltration to district of empire Jerusalem? What are the related consequences?. The study deals with three domains: 1. Herzl international communications. 2. Immigrations to Jerusalem. 3. proper and critical procedures taken by the Ottoman Empire to prevent Zionism infiltration to Jerusalem. The researchers attached two reports for governors Akram Bek and Ahamd Rasheed Bek as two main sources of this study. The study adopted Ottoman documents, Arabic studies, Turkish studies and foreign studies. The study concludes that the Ottoman empire represented by Sultan Abdulhamid did not ;legitimize the Jewish immigration to Palestine and loyal employees such as Akram Bek transformed this into practical procedures. Meanwhile, some corrupted employees breached this and facilitated the immigration of jews to Palestine.Similar breach are taking place nowdays
The Degree of Facultys Use and Stimulation of Students Critical Thinking from the Perspective of English Majors at Al-Quds University
The purpose of this study is to determine the degree of faculty’s use and stimulation of critical thinking skills in
the English Department at Al-Quds University. To achieve the objective of the study, a questionnaire consisting
of 21 items was designed and applied to the study sample, consisting of 95 students in the English Department at
Al-Quds University in Palestine. In addition to that, 11 students from the same department were interviewed.
The results of the study showed that the degree of faculty’s use and stimulation of critical thinking skills in the
English Department were medium, and that there were no statistically significant differences in the degree of the
faculty’s use and stimulation of critical thinking due to gender and performance, and the presence of significant
differences was due to level and in favor of third year English majors. The results of the students’ interview also
showed that there were skills that teachers used largely as the skill of interpretation and analysis, and that there
were skills which were fairly used such as the skill of inference, and the assessment skill was low. In light of the
results of the study, the researchers recommended the need for further similar studies on different samples and
departments, the need of including a single course in critical thinking in the Faculty of Arts, and the need to hold
workshops for teachers on critical thinking skills, especially the skill of assessment. Our deepest appreciation goes to the Deanship of Scientific Research at Al-Quds University for its support and
encouragement. Not to forget all faculty members in the English Department for their help. Special thanks to all
English majors for their cooperation during the process of carrying out the study. To all of them, we offer our
deepest respect and gratitude
STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN WRITTEN EXPRESSION IN THE DEPARTMENTS OF ENGLISH AND ARABIC AT AL-QUDS UNIVERSITY
This study aims to identify the nature of students’ difficulties in written expression in the Departments of English and Arabic at Al-Quds University. It also aims to identify the impact of each of the variables gender, level, department and achievement on the degree of students’ writing difficulties in both departments. To achieve the objective of the study, a questionnaire was designed comprising 32 items applied to the study sample which consisted of 128 students from the Departments of Arabic and English at Al-Quds University in Palestine. The results of the study showed that students’ difficulties in written expression were fain in degree; they also revealed statistically significant differences in the averages of students’ difficulties in written expression due to gender in favor of females, and the presence of statistically significant differences in the averages of the difficulties in written expression due to level, and in favor of third and fourth year students; there were also statistically significant differences in the averages due to department and in favor of the Department of Arabic. The results of the study showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the averages of the difficulties of written expression due to level of achievement. Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommended the need to hold language activities in class, such as reading and writing articles and short stories, which overuse words and vocabulary that may help to develop students’ written expression, and there is a need to instate a course for written expression on the graduation plans of the above-mentioned departments, and the importance of taking into account students' tendencies when choosing topics that include written expression. The degree of faculty’s use of authentic assessment tools at Al-Quds University and their relation to their attitudes towards them
The study aims to investigate and realize the degree of faculty’s use of authentic
assessment tools at Al-Quds University and their relation to their attitudes towards them. To
achieve the purpose of the study, a sample of (99) faculty members at the university was
selected in the academic year 2016/2017. Two instruments were developed by the researchers,
a questionnaire to measure the degree of faculty’s use of authentic assessment tools, and
another questionnaire to measure their attitudes towards authentic assessment. And the
reliability of the two instruments was reached. The results of the study showed that the use of
authentic assessment tolls by the faculty at Al-Quds University is moderate, and there were
statistically significant differences at )α ≥ .0.0( in the mean score and in favor of gender and
academic rank. And there were no statistically significant differences with regard to
experience. The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences in the
mean score of the faculty’s attitudes towards authentic assessment which reached )α ≥ .0.0(
and was too high, and in favor of academic rank, and there were no significant differences with
regard to gender and experience. The study concluded that there is a small positive relationship
between the faculty’s use of authentic assessment tools and their attitudes towards it. In light
of the above results, the study recommends conducting other research about the obstacle that
stand on the way of using authentic assessment tools, and carrying out training courses for the
faculty about the importance and need of using authentic assessment tools

A New Neutrosophic Cognitive Map with Neutrosophic Sets on Connections
Neutrosophic sets and their application to decision support have become a very important topic. In real situations, there are different sources of indeterminacy. This paper suggests a new decision-making model based on Neutrosophic Cognitive Maps (NCMs) for making comprehensive decisions from a multi-objective approach (diagnosis, decisions, and prediction) during the execution of many projects simultaneously. A Soft Computing technique like Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCMs) has been widely used for decision-making process in project management, but this technique has the limitation of not considering the indeterminacy between concepts. This limitation is overcome by the proposed model since NCMs can represent the indeterminacy or neutrality. The new model includes neutrosophic sets in the map’s connections. Finally, the suggested model has been compared with traditional FCM-based model considering efficiency and efficacy
