A possible mechanism to cause the quasi-biennial variability on the solar neutrino flux
It is suggested that the quasi-biennial change in the observed flux of the solar neutrinos is causally related to some non-linear process at the central core of the Sun, being associated with the charge in the central temperature. This process seems to be responsible for the physical adjustment of the internal structure of the Sun. Numerical simulation on this process is able to reproduce the quasi-biennial change in the flux of these neutrinos
Nonradiative Recombination of Excitons in Carbon Nanotubes Mediated by Free Charge Carriers
Free electrons or holes can mediate the nonradiative recombination of
excitons in carbon nanotubes. Kinematic constraints arising from the quasi
one-dimensional nature of excitons and charge carriers lead to a thermal
activation barrier for the process. However, a model calculation suggests that
the rate for recombination mediated by a free electron is the same order of
magnitude as that of two-exciton recombination. Small amounts of doping may
contribute to the short exciton lifetimes and low quantum yields observed in
carbon nanotubes.Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures. Submitted to Physical Review
CEDM constraints on modified sfermion universality and spontaneous CP violation
We discuss the supersymmetric CP problem that arises when the sfermion soft
mass universality is modified. We place the 3rd generation SU(5) ten-plet
sfermion masses in the weak scale in view of the naturalness. The other
sfermion masses are assumed to be universal and a TeV scale in order to weaken
the flavor changing neutral current processes and electric dipole moment (EDM)
constraints. However this modification generically induces too large up quark
chromo-EDM (CEDM) via the weak scale stop loop. In order to suppress this CEDM,
we propose certain type of flavor structure where the parameters of the
up-(s)quark sector are real whereas those of the down-(s)quark and the charged
(s)lepton sectors are complex at the GUT scale. It is shown that, in this set
up, up quark CEDM can be suppressed within the range where the current and
future experiments have their sensitivity. We briefly illustrate the simple
realization of these particular forms of the modified sfermion universality
with real up-(s)quark sector by spontaneous CP violation in E SUSY GUT with
SU(2) flavor symmetry.Comment: Hg EDM bound updated, content modified, figure added, typos

The Higher Orders of the Theory of Strong Perturbations in Quantum Mechanics and the Secularity Problem
We solve the higher order equations of the theory of the strong perturbations
in quantum mechanics given in M. Frasca, Phys. Rev. A 45, 43 (1992), by
assuming that, at the leading order, the wave function goes adiabatically. This
is accomplished by deriving the unitary operator of adiabatic evolution for the
leading order. In this way it is possible to show that at least one of the
causes of the problem of phase-mixing, whose effect is the polynomial increase
in time of the perturbation terms normally called secularities, arises from the
shifts of the perturbation energy levels due to the unperturbed part of the
hamiltonian. An example is given for a two-level system that, anyway, shows a
secularity at second order also in the standard theory of small perturbations.
The theory is applied to the quantum analog of a classical problem that can
become chaotic, a particle under the effect of two waves of different
amplitudes, frequencies and wave numbers.Comment: 13 pages, Late
Photon correlations in positron annihilation
The two-photon positron annihilation density matrix is found to separate into
a diagonal center of energy factor implying maximally entangled momenta, and a
relative factor describing decay. For unknown positron injection time, the
distribution of the difference in photon arrival times is a double exponential
at the para-Ps decay rate, consistent with experiment (V. D. Irby, Meas. Sci.
Technol. 15, 1799 (2004)).Comment: Accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Quantum description and properties of electrons emitted from pulsed nanotip electron sources
We present a quantum calculation of the electron degeneracy for electron
sources. We explore quantum interference of electrons in the temporal and
spatial domain and demonstrate how it can be utilized to characterize a pulsed
electron source. We estimate effects of Coulomb repulsion on two-electron
interference and show that currently available nano tip pulsed electron sources
operate in the regime where the quantum nature of electrons can be made
dominant
Flavor Neutrino Oscillations and Time-Energy Uncertainty Relation
We consider neutrino oscillations as non stationary phenomenon based on
Schrodinger evolution equation and mixed states of neutrinos with definite
flavors. We show that time-energy uncertainty relation plays a crucial role in
neutrino oscillations. We compare neutrino oscillations with
oscillations.Comment: A report at the 2nd Scandinavian Neutrino Workshop, SNOW 2006,

Instability of Myelin Tubes under Dehydration: deswelling of layered cylindrical structures
We report experimental observations of an undulational instability of myelin
figures. Motivated by this, we examine theoretically the deformation and
possible instability of concentric, cylindrical, multi-lamellar membrane
structures. Under conditions of osmotic stress (swelling or dehydration), we
find a stable, deformed state in which the layer deformation is given by \delta
R ~ r^{\sqrt{B_A/(hB)}}, where B_A is the area compression modulus, B is the
inter-layer compression modulus, and h is the repeat distance of layers. Also,
above a finite threshold of dehydration (or osmotic stress), we find that the
system becomes unstable to undulations, first with a characteristic wavelength
of order \sqrt{xi d_0}, where xi is the standard smectic penetration depth and
d_0 is the thickness of dehydrated region.Comment: 5 pages + 3 figures [revtex 4
