    Polarimetry of Saturnian satellite Enceladus

    We present results of polarimetric observations of Saturn's moon Enceladus carried out from April 14, 2010 to April 13, 2013 in WR spectral band (550-750 nm). We used 2.6-m telescope equipped with a one-channel photoelectric photometer-polarimeter (Crimean Astrophysical Observatory). The measurements were performed at phase angles ranging from 1.65° to 5.71°. The phase-angle dependence of linear polarization of Enceladus was obtained using the results of our observations. Results obtained are discussed in terms of existing models of light scattering by regolith surfaces

    Database of satellite polarimetry

    We present the electronic database (EAR-SA-COMPIL-3-SATPOL-V1.0, NASA Planetary Data System), involving 2355 published and 105 unpublished results in planetary satellite polarimetry. The database contains 2460 measurements of linear polarization of planetary satellites, including fifteen measurements of polarization for the Martian satellites (Phobos and Deimos), 2318 measurements for five Jovian satellites (Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, and Himalia), 127 measurements for two Saturnian satellites (Titan and Iapetus). Broad-band measurements within the spectral region 233-850 nm are presented. The range of phase angles is 0.1°-154° . The geometric conditions of observations (phase angle, planetographic longitude and latitude of the target disk centre seen by the observer, and position angle of the scattering plane) are calculated for given moments of time according to the JPL Horizons ephemeris system. We have compiled nineteen references to the published papers and some unpublished sources. The data are provided in a tabular ASCII format. The database can be used as the observational basis for detailed theoretical modelling, interpretation of the phase-angle and spectral dependence of polarization, and for selecting future space-mission targets

    Piezoelectric Characteristics of LiNbO3 Thin-film Heterostructures via Piezoresponse Force Microscopy

    Electro-optic LiNbO3 thin films were deposited on Si(100) and Si(111) substrates using a radio-frequency magnetron sputtering process. The piezoelectric properties of the LiNbO3 films were investigated using the scanning probe microscopy in the piezoresponse mode. The obtained results show the high degree of grains orientation in polycrystalline structure. The piezoelectric modulus (dzz) was estimated to be 16 pm/V (for LiNbO3 / Si(100)) and 22 pm/V (for LiNbO3 / Si(111)) and the polarization about of 0.37 C·m – 2.     Polarimetric observations of the Galilean satellites near opposition in 2011

    We present results of the new polarimetric observations of the Galilean satellites Io, Ganymede, Europe, and Callisto carried out on October 21 - November 1, 2011. We used 1.25m telescope equipped with the UBVRI double image chopping photoelectric polarimeter, 2.6m Shain telescope equipped with a one-channel photoelectric photometer-polarimeter, 1m RCC telescope equipped with a one-channel photoelectric photometer-polarimeter (Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, Ukraine), and 0.7m telescope equipped with a one-channel photoelectric photometer-polarimeter (Chuguev Observational Station of Astronomical Institute of Karazin Kharkiv National University, Ukraine). The measurements were performed at phase angles ranging from 0.34° to 2.12°. Our new observations fully confirmed the presence of the polarization opposition effect for high-albedo satellites Io, Europa, and Ganymede at phase angles less than 2° . Within the accuracy of the measurements we did not detect the polarization opposition effect for moderate-albedo satellite Callisto

    Communicative Codes of Visual Nature for Business Communications

    The use of communication codes for efficiency communication programming (infogramming) is an innovative approach to soft support for management decisions. This approach was proposed by Richard H. Thaler and named Nudge. However, the author of this approach did not offer efficiency tools for the practical application of this innovation in supporting solutions. We offer an author’s tool for the practical implementation of Nudge – infographic, so to speak- information programming of decision makers to transform decisions from the irrational field of the mind to the rational one through communication codes of a visual nature. The practitioners require communication code to form such communications. They are certainly different for divers target environment. Their identification requires complex marketing research. Recently, a scientific and methodological discussion has been held on the relevance of the results obtained through sociological surveys as a method of marketing research. In our opinion these discussions lead to a fair conclusion about the low relevance of the results of opinion polls due to a number of factors affecting this parameter. The most convincing explanations about the traps that the researchers introduce the method of opinion polls are reflected in the work of recognized authorities in marketing research. An alternative to the methodology of the opinion poll is the in-depth interview method, which assumes, in contrast to the method of opinion polls, a qualitative study that answers the questions of “how”, “in what way”, etc. At the same time, qualitative research has its own traps, consisting in a small number of respondents. As a rule, this number is about 3-6 people. For this reason, many researchers do not consider the results of such studies to be practically valuable. In this regard, the authors of this article face the task of proposing a hybrid method that is quantitative in terms of the number of respondents and qualitative in terms of avoiding the traps of social surveys. The authors confirm the practical value of the proposed hybrid method by comparing the results of quantitative and qualitative research methods of the same target environment. The metaphor extraction methodology proposed by Gerald Zaltman (ZMET) was used in order to escape the traps of quantitative research methods

    Synthesis and Nanoscale Characterization of LiNbO3 Thin Films Deposited on Al2O3 Substrate by RF Magnetron Sputtering under Electric Field

    LiNbO3 thin films were deposited on Al2O3 substrates by RF-magnetron sputtering with in-situ electric field to study the self-polarization effect. The films have been characterized crystallographically by x-ray diffraction, and morphologically by atomic force microscopy. The films contain crystallites of LiNbO3 with preferable orientation [012] along the normal to the Al2O3 substrate surface (012). Piezoresponse force microscopy was used to study vertical and lateral polarization direction in LiNbO3 thin films. The analysis of the histograms of vertical piezoresponse images allowed to reveal self-polarization effect in films. The local piezoelectric hysteresis performed on the nanometer scale indicates switching behavior of polarization for LiNbO3 thin film

    High statistic measurement of the K- -> pi0 e- nu decay form-factors

    The decay K- -> pi0 e- nu is studied using in-flight decays detected with the ISTRA+ spectrometer. About 920K events are collected for the analysis. The lambda+ slope parameter of the decay form-factor f+(t) in the linear approximation (average slope) is measured: lambda+(lin)= 0.02774 +- 0.00047(stat) +- 0.00032(syst). The quadratic contribution to the form-factor was estimated to be lambda'+ = 0.00084 +- 0.00027(stat) +- 0.00031(syst). The linear slope, which has a meaning of df+(t)/dt|_{t=0} for this fit, is lambda+ = 0.02324 +- 0.00152(stat) +- 0.00032(syst). The limits on possible tensor and scalar couplings are derived: f_{T}/f_{+}(0)=-0.012 +- 0.021(stat) +- 0.011$(syst), f_{S}/f_{+}(0)=-0.0037^{+0.0066}_{-0.0056}(stat) +- 0.0041(syst).Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures.
