A novel modular stator hybrid-excited doubly salient synchronous machine with stator slot permanent magnets
This paper presents a novel modular stator hybrid-excited synchronous machine with stator slot permanent magnets (PMs). By regulating the field current, the magnetic field, and consequently the back electromotive force, as well as the average torque can be controlled. The existence of stator slot PMs alleviates the magnetic saturation and improves the flux regulation ratio. The frozen permeability method is employed to investigate the torque contributions by different magnetic sources. Possible stator and rotor pole combinations are illustrated, and the corresponding electromagnetic performances are evaluated with the finite-element method. It is revealed that 12-stator pole machines with 11- and 13-rotor poles exhibit superior average torque and lower torque ripple due to even-order harmonics elimination. Finally, a prototype with modular stator segments is manufactured to validate the analyses and simulations
Evaluation of the cytotoxic and genotoxic potential of Khat (Catha edulis Forsk) extracts on human T lymphoblastoid cell line
This paper reports on an investigation of the cytotoxic and genotoxic potential of khat extract using a human T lymphoblastoid cell line (CEM). Exponentially growing CEM cells were cultured for 12 h in the presence of khat extract (0-2000 μg ml-1). Statistically significant, dose-dependent increases in; CEM cell death at dose (> 400 μg ml-1), in DNA damage at dose (>200 μg ml-1) and in micronuclei frequency, at dose (>200 μg ml-1) were observed. The genetic damage effects of khat extract on human cell line observed in this study could serve as a major contribution towards the understanding and creating of awareness of an increased risk of cancer amongst long-term khat consumers
Generation of long-living entanglement using cold trapped ions with pair cat states
With the reliance in the processing of quantum information on a cold trapped
ion, we analyze the entanglement entropy in the ion-field interaction with pair
cat states. We investigate a long-living entanglement allowing the
instantaneous position of the center-of-mass motion of the ion to be explicitly
time dependent. An analytic solution for the system operators is obtained. We
show that different nonclassical effects arise in the dynamics of the
population inversion, depending on the initial states of the vibrational
motion. We study in detail the entanglement degree and demonstrate how the
input pair cat state is required for initiating the long living entanglement.
This long living entanglement is damp out with an increase in the number
difference . Owing to the properties of entanglement measures, the results

Coexistence or Separation of the Superconducting, Antiferromagnetic, and Paramagnetic Phases in Quasi One-Dimensional (TMTSF)2PF6 ?
We report on experimental studies of the character of phase transitions in
the quasi-1D organic compound (TMTSF)2PF6 in the close vicinity of the borders
between the paramagnetic metal PM, antiferromagnetic insulator AF, and
superconducting SC states. In order to drive the system through the phase
border P_0(T_0), the sample was maintained at fixed temperature T and pressure
P, whereas the critical pressure P_0 was tuned by applying the magnetic field
B. In this approach, the magnetic field was used (i) for tuning (P-P_0), and
(ii) for identifying the phase composition (due to qualitatively different
magnetoresistance behavior in different phases). Experimentally, we measured
R(B) and its temperature dependence R(B,T) in the pressure range (0 - 1)GPa.
Our studies focus on the features of the magnetoresistance at the phase
transition between the PM and AF phases, in the close vicinity to the
superconducting transition at T~1K. We found pronounced history effects arising
when the AF/PM phase border is crossed by sweeping the magnetic field: the
resistance depends on a trajectory which the system arrives at a given point of
the P-B-T phase space. In the transition from the PM to AF phase, the features
of the PM phase extends well into the AF phase. At the opposite transition from
the AF to PM phase, the features of the AF phase are observed in the PM phase.
These results evidence for a macroscopically inhomogeneous state, which
contains macroscopic inclusions of the minority phase. When the system is
driven away from the transition, the homogeneous state is restored; upon a
return motion to the phase boundary, no signatures of the minority phase are
observed up to the very phase boundary.Comment: 10 figures, 23 page
From Gapped Excitons to Gapless Triplons in One Dimension
Often, exotic phases appear in the phase diagrams between conventional
phases. Their elementary excitations are of particular interest. Here, we
consider the example of the ionic Hubbard model in one dimension. This model is
a band insulator (BI) for weak interaction and a Mott insulator (MI) for strong
interaction. Inbetween, a spontaneously dimerized insulator (SDI) occurs which
is governed by energetically low-lying charge and spin degrees of freedom.
Applying a systematically controlled version of the continuous unitary
transformations (CUTs) we are able to determine the dispersions of the
elementary charge and spin excitations and of their most relevant bound states
on equal footing. The key idea is to start from an externally dimerized system
using the relative weak interdimer coupling as small expansion parameter which
finally is set to unity to recover the original model.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figure
Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadron production in e^+e^- annihilation at \sqrt{s}= 3.773 and 3.650 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3 pb taken at GeV
and 6.5 pb taken at GeV with the BESII detector at the
BEPC collider, we have measured the observed cross sections for 12 exclusive
light hadron final states produced in annihilation at the two energy
points. We have also set the upper limits on the observed cross sections and
the branching fractions for decay to these final states at 90%

A study of charged kappa in
Based on events collected by BESII, the decay
is studied. In the invariant mass
spectrum recoiling against the charged , the charged
particle is found as a low mass enhancement. If a Breit-Wigner function of
constant width is used to parameterize the kappa, its pole locates at MeV/. Also in this channel,
the decay is observed for the first time.

We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi -->
D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7
J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal
above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the
branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi
