Social structures and entrepreneurial networks: the strength of strong ties.
The entrepreneurial context provides a fertile arena for the study of networks. This qualitative study critically examines the nature, content and process of strong ties, which are found to fall into three categories: family, business contacts, and suppliers, competitors and customers. These nodal categories each provide a specific range of support to the entrepreneur. Their appropriate and effective utilization greatly facilitates enterprise performance
Softly broken supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories: Renormalization and non-renormalization theorems
We present a minimal version for the renormalization of softly broken
Super-Yang-Mills theories using the extended model with a local gauge coupling.
It is shown that the non-renormalization theorems of the case with unbroken
supersymmetry are valid without modifications and that the renormalization of
soft-breaking parameters is completely governed by the renormalization of the
supersymmetric parameters. The symmetry identities in the present context are
peculiar, since the extended model contains two anomalies: the Adler-Bardeen
anomaly of the axial current and an anomaly of supersymmetry in the presence of
the local gauge coupling. From the anomalous symmetries we derive the exact
all-order expressions for the beta functions of the gauge coupling and of the
soft-breaking parameters. They generalize earlier results to arbitrary
normalization conditions and imply the NSVZ expressions for a specific

Dissipative Dynamics of a Josephson Junction In the Bose-Gases
The dissipative dynamics of a Josephson junction in the Bose-gases is
considered within the framework of the model of a tunneling Hamiltonian. The
effective action which describes the dynamics of the phase difference across
the junction is derived using functional integration method. The dynamic
equation obtained for the phase difference across the junction is analyzed for
the finite temperatures in the low frequency limit involving the radiation
terms. The asymmetric case of the Bose-gases with the different order
parameters is calculated as well
Uniform random generation of large acyclic digraphs
Directed acyclic graphs are the basic representation of the structure
underlying Bayesian networks, which represent multivariate probability
distributions. In many practical applications, such as the reverse engineering
of gene regulatory networks, not only the estimation of model parameters but
the reconstruction of the structure itself is of great interest. As well as for
the assessment of different structure learning algorithms in simulation
studies, a uniform sample from the space of directed acyclic graphs is required
to evaluate the prevalence of certain structural features. Here we analyse how
to sample acyclic digraphs uniformly at random through recursive enumeration,
an approach previously thought too computationally involved. Based on
complexity considerations, we discuss in particular how the enumeration
directly provides an exact method, which avoids the convergence issues of the
alternative Markov chain methods and is actually computationally much faster.
The limiting behaviour of the distribution of acyclic digraphs then allows us
to sample arbitrarily large graphs. Building on the ideas of recursive
enumeration based sampling we also introduce a novel hybrid Markov chain with
much faster convergence than current alternatives while still being easy to
adapt to various restrictions. Finally we discuss how to include such
restrictions in the combinatorial enumeration and the new hybrid Markov chain

Evaluating How Potential Pool of Partners Can Join Together in Different Types of Long Term Collaborative Networked Organizations
International audienceThe considerable benefits brought up by strategic alliances and diverse types of long term Collaborative Networked Organizations (CNOs) are nowadays widely recognized. There is an increasing demand in the industrial world for concretely implement new forms of collaborations. For example, demand often comes from pre-existent form of clusters or local productive arrangements, that want to evolve to more efficient forms of collaboration, or from small and medium enterprises that are facing a crisis, and look at collaboration with other enterprises as almost the last chance to survive. In general, variety of motivations in collaborating implies variety of missions of potential collaborations, that in turn requires the choice of an appropriate form of Collaborative Network aligned to the mission statement. This paper addresses the problem to define a methodology for analyzing potential pool of partners and for identifing the mission, the form, the governance structure and the value drivers of long term strategic alliance that would bring highest benefits to the partners. De geprotocolleerde Interapy-behandeling van depressie via het internet; resultaten van een gerandomiseerde trial
Psychologische behandelingen via internet bieden een nieuwe mogelijkheid voor de geestelijke gezondheidszorg. In samenwerking met de Stichting Mentrum ggz Amsterdam heeft Interapy een behandeling voor depressie via internet opgezet. De behandeling bestaat uit cognitief-gedragstherapeutische interventies, zoals psycho-educatie, schrijfopdrachten, registratie, activatie, het uitdagen van negatieve automatische gedachten en terugvalpreventie. Dit artikel beschrijft de procedure, de behandeling en de resultaten van een vergelijkende studie onder cliënten die matig tot ernstig depressief waren. De cliënten die direct actief werden behandeld (N = 32) verbeterden significant meer dan de cliënten in de psycho-educatieconditie (N = 14). Deze tweede groep kreeg de actieve behandeling ongeveer twaalf weken later. De effecten waren groot. In de actief behandelde groep liet 75 procent van de cliënten klinisch relevante verbetering zien, in de psycho-educatieconditie was dat percentage 36. The global burden of falls: Global, regional and national estimates of morbidity and mortality from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017
Background: Falls can lead to severe health loss including death. Past research has shown that falls are an important cause of death and disability worldwide. The Global Burden of Disease Study 2017 (GBD 2017) provides a comprehensive assessment of morbidity and mortality from falls. Methods: Estimates for mortality, years of life lost (YLLs), incidence, prevalence, years lived with disability (YLDs) and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were produced for 195 countries and territories from 1990 to 2017 for all ages using the GBD 2017 framework. Distributions of the bodily injury (eg, hip fracture) were estimated using hospital records. Background: The Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) has historically produced estimates of causes of injury such as falls but not the resulting types of injuries that occur. The objective of this study was to estimate the global incidence, prevalence and years lived with disability (YLDs) due to facial fractures and to estimate the leading injurious causes of facial fracture. Methods: We obtained results from GBD 2017. First, the study estimated the incidence from each injury cause (eg, falls), and then the proportion of each cause that would result in facial fracture being the most disabling injury. Global trends of hand and wrist trauma: A systematic analysis of fracture and digit amputation using the Global Burden of Disease 2017 Study
Background: As global rates of mortality decrease, rates of non-fatal injury have increased, particularly in low Socio-demographic Index (SDI) nations. We hypothesised this global pattern of non-fatal injury would be demonstrated in regard to bony hand and wrist trauma over the 27-year study period. Methods: The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2017 was used to estimate prevalence, age-standardised incidence and years lived with disability for hand trauma in 195 countries from 1990 to 2017. Comprehensive analysis of epigenetic clocks reveals associations between disproportionate biological ageing and hippocampal volume
The concept of age acceleration, the difference between biological age and chronological age, is of growing interest, particularly with respect to age-related disorders, such as Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Whilst studies have reported associations with AD risk and related phenotypes, there remains a lack of consensus on these associations. Here we aimed to comprehensively investigate the relationship between five recognised measures of age acceleration, based on DNA methylation patterns (DNAm age), and cross-sectional and longitudinal cognition and AD-related neuroimaging phenotypes (volumetric MRI and Amyloid-β PET) in the Australian Imaging, Biomarkers and Lifestyle (AIBL) and the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). Significant associations were observed between age acceleration using the Hannum epigenetic clock and cross-sectional hippocampal volume in AIBL and replicated in ADNI. In AIBL, several other findings were observed cross-sectionally, including a significant association between hippocampal volume and the Hannum and Phenoage epigenetic clocks. Further, significant associations were also observed between hippocampal volume and the Zhang and Phenoage epigenetic clocks within Amyloid-β positive individuals. However, these were not validated within the ADNI cohort. No associations between age acceleration and other Alzheimer’s disease-related phenotypes, including measures of cognition or brain Amyloid-β burden, were observed, and there was no association with longitudinal change in any phenotype. This study presents a link between age acceleration, as determined using DNA methylation, and hippocampal volume that was statistically significant across two highly characterised cohorts. The results presented in this study contribute to a growing literature that supports the role of epigenetic modifications in ageing and AD-related phenotypes
