Chiral phase transitions in strong chromomagnetic fields at finite temperature and dimensional reduction
Dynamical fermion mass generation in external chromomagnetic fields is
considered at non--zero temperature. The general features of dynamical chiral
symmetry breaking () are investigated for several field
configurations in relation to their symmetry properties and the form of the
quark spectrum. According to the fields, there arises dimensional reduction by
one or two units. In all cases there exists even at weak quark
attraction, confirming the idea about the dimensional insensitivity of this
mechanism in a chromomagnetic field.Comment: LATEX file, 12 pages, no figure
Morphological characterization of injection molded parts in Ren Shape 5166 polyurethane inserts for rapid tooling
The Rapid Tooling techniques have been emerging to produce rapid moulds for injecting plas-tics parts. Among the current solutions, material removal by milling machining of polymeric resin or poly-meric composites is an attractive alternative for manufacturing moulds for injecting short series of products. This work assesses the morphology of parts injected in mould cavities manufactured by a polyurethane resin (PUR) Ren Shape 5166, as an alternative for Rapid Tooling, and the parts injected in cavities manufactured by the ordinary mould steel. Both cavities were used for injecting the parts with polypropylene. The speci-mens were characterized by Optical Microscopy and Differential Scanning Calorimetry, to observe the mor-phology and the resulting degree of crystallization from the moulding process. The results show the differ-ences in the microstructure structure from the parts injected in both cavities. It was observed that the parts injected in the PUR cavities are slightly more crystalline and display morphology different than the parts in-jected in the mould steel.Sociedade Edu-cacional de Santa Catarina (SOCIESC)CAPES - bolsa PROCAD 139/2007Promol-de research groupPROENGEN-HARIAS PE 27/2008 (Brasil
No First-Order Phase Transition in the Gross-Neveu Model?
Within a variational calculation we investigate the role of baryons for the
structure of dense matter in the Gross-Neveu model. We construct a trial ground
state at finite baryon density which breaks translational invariance. Its
scalar potential interpolates between widely spaced kinks and antikinks at low
density and the value zero at infinite density. Its energy is lower than the
one of the standard Fermi gas at all densities considered. This suggests that
the discrete gamma_5 symmetry of the Gross-Neveu model does not get restored in
a first order phase transition at finite density, at variance with common
wisdom.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures, LaTe
Primer development for detection of Phaseolus vulgaris and Olathe transgenic bean.
Several strategies have been employed for genetically engineering resistance to viruses in transgenic plants. The bean golden mosaic virus (BGMV) is responsible for causing the gold mosaic of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and causes severe yield losses due to yellow-green mosaic of leaves, stunted growth and distorted pods. Olathe transgenic bean (Olathe 5.1) was successfully produced by EMBRAPA using the RNA interference (RNAi) concept to silence the rep viral gene in common bean to generate transgenic lines with strong resistance to BGMV. In this work, real time PCR (RT-PCR) method with SYBR Green was developed to detect this newly genetically modified (GM) plant

Emergence of Skyrme crystal in Gross-Neveu and 't Hooft models at finite density
We study two-dimensional, large field theoretic models (Gross-Neveu
model, 't Hooft model) at finite baryon density near the chiral limit. The same
mechanism which leads to massless baryons in these models induces a breakdown
of translational invariance at any finite density. In the chiral limit baryonic
matter is characterized by a spatially varying chiral angle with a wave number
depending only on the density. For small bare quark masses a sine-Gordon kink
chain is obtained which may be regarded as simplest realization of the Skyrme
crystal for nuclear matter. Characteristic differences between confining and
non-confining models are pointed out.Comment: 27 pages, 11 figures, added reference, corrected sig
Pathway of Toll-Like Receptor 7/B Cell Activating Factor/B Cell Activating Factor Receptor Plays a Role in Immune Thrombocytopenia In Vivo
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by anti-platelet autoantibody-mediated platelet destruction. Antigen-presenting cell (APC) dysfunction is considered to play crucial roles in ITP. However, how APC affects autoreactive B cells in ITP is still unknown. Using a mouse model of immune thrombocytopenia, we demonstrated an increase in levels of TLR7 in splenic mononuclear cells (SMCs). Using both TLR7 agonist and TLR7 silencing lentivirus, we found stimulation of TLR7 decreased platelet counts and increased levels of platelet-associated IgG (PAIgG) in ITP mice, which correlates TLR7 with platelet destruction by autoantibodies. Levels of serum BAFF increased significantly in ITP mice and stimulation of TLR7 promoted secretion of BAFF. Among the three BAFF receptors, only BAFF receptor (BAFF-R) increased in ITP mice. However, activation of TLR7 showed no effect on the expression of BAFF receptors. These findings indicate that upregulation of TLR7 may augment BAFF secretion by APC and through ligation of BAFF-R promote autoreactive B cell survival and thus anti-platelet autoantibody production. The pathway of TLR7/BAFF/BAFF-R provides us with an explanation of how activation of APC affects autoantibody production by B cells in ITP and thus might provide a reasonable therapeutic strategy for ITP
Sensing coral reef connectivity pathways from space
Coral reefs rely on inter-habitat connectivity to maintain gene flow, biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. Coral reef communities of the Red Sea exhibit remarkable genetic homogeneity across most of the Arabian Peninsula coastline, with a genetic break towards the southern part of the basin. While previous studies have attributed these patterns to environmental heterogeneity, we hypothesize that they may also emerge as a result of dynamic circulation flow; yet, such linkages remain undemonstrated. Here, we integrate satellite-derived biophysical observations, particle dispersion model simulations, genetic population data and ship-borne in situ profiles to assess reef connectivity in the Red Sea. We simulated long-term (>20 yrs.) connectivity patterns driven by remotely-sensed sea surface height and evaluated results against estimates of genetic distance among populations of anemonefish, Amphiprion bicinctus, along the eastern Red Sea coastline. Predicted connectivity was remarkably consistent with genetic population data, demonstrating that circulation features (eddies, surface currents) formulate physical pathways for gene flow. The southern basin has lower physical connectivity than elsewhere, agreeing with known genetic structure of coral reef organisms. The central Red Sea provides key source regions, meriting conservation priority. Our analysis demonstrates a cost-effective tool to estimate biophysical connectivity remotely, supporting coastal management in data-limited regions
