Investigation of initiation conditions of relative displacements of the fault-block media units under vibration loading

    Get PDF
On the basis of computer modeling by the method of movable cellular automata the theoretical investigation of initiation conditions of relative displacements along the interfaces of complex stressed geological media blocks in the complex intense condition under local vibrating loading has been performed. It is shown, that defining factors at formation of unstable shift on the interblock border of fracture-block geological environments are the relative value of shift stresses and also the frequency of vibrating loading, i. Π΅. time of impulse energy allocation. Low in power, but long-continued loadings on influences on high-voltage borders of section are the most effective in respect to power inputs

Development of a formalism of movable cellular automaton method for numerical modeling of fracture of heterogeneous elastic-plastic materials

A general approach to realization of models of elasticity, plasticity and fracture of heterogeneousmaterials within the framework of particle-based numerical methods is proposed in the paper. It is based onbuilding many-body forces of particle interaction, which provide response of particle ensemble correctlyconforming to the response (including elastic-plastic behavior and fracture) of simulated solids. Implementationof proposed approach within particle-based methods is demonstrated by the example of the movable cellularautomaton (MCA) method, which integrates the possibilities of particle-based discrete element method (DEM)and cellular automaton methods. Emergent advantages of the developed approach to formulation of manybodyinteraction are discussed. Main of them are its applicability to various realizations of the concept ofdiscrete elements and a possibility to realize various rheological models (including elastic-plastic or visco-elasticplastic)and models of fracture to study deformation and fracture of solid-phase materials and media.Capabilities of particle-based modeling of heterogeneous solids are demonstrated by the problem of simulationof deformation and fracture of particle-reinforced metal-ceramic composites

On structural defect generation induced by thermal fluctuations in materials with a perfect lattice under dynamic loading

The possibility of structural defect generation induced by thermal fluctuations in single cryctals under high-rate deformation is numerically investigated. It is shown that thermal fluctiations can be a reason for structural defect generation and there is a threshold strain value at which zones with local structural changes grow almost abruptlyyesBelgorod State Universit

Peculiarities of plastic deformation nucleation in copper under nanoindentation

    Get PDF
The computer simulation results on the atomic structure of the copper crystallite and its behavior in nanoindentation demonstrate the key role of local structural transformations in nucleation of plasticity. The generation of local structural transformations can be considered as an elementary event during the formation of higher scale defects, including partial dislocations and stacking faults. The cause for local structural transformations, both direct fcc-hcp and reverse hcp-fcc, is an abrupt local increase in atomic volume. A characteristic feature is that the values of local volume jumps in direct and reverse structural transformations are comparable with that in melting and lie in the range 5–7%

Plastic deformation nucleation in elastically loaded CuNi alloy during nanoindentation

    Get PDF
The molecular dynamics simulation of the behavior of elastically loaded CuNi alloy at nanoindentation is carried out. It is shown that the stoichiometric composition and the preliminary elastic deformation influence characteristics of the nucleation of plastic deformation. Under tension of specimens with a low concentration of nickel, the nucleation of plastic deformation is determined by the formation of stacking faults. The formation of nanotwins makes a significant contribution to the nucleation of plasticity at high concentrations of nickel. The increase of the degree of preliminary elastic deformation of the crystallites leads to a decrease in the depth of indentation at which structural defects start to form

Plastic deformation nucleation in BCC crystallites under nanoindentation

Molecular dynamics investigation of metal crystallite with bcc lattice under nanoindentation was carried out. Potentials of interatomic interactions were calculated on the base of the approximation of the Finnis-Sinclair method. For clarity and simpler indentation data interpretation, an extended cylindrical indenter was used in the investigation. The features of the bcc iron structural response at nanoindentation of surfaces with different crystallographic orientations were revealed. Generation of structural defects in the contact zone always resulted in the decrease in the rate of growth of the reaction force

Influence of porosity percolation on mechanical properties of ceramic materials. 3D simulation using movable cellular automata

    Get PDF
3D computer simulation of mechanical behavior of a brittle porous material under uniaxial compression is considered. The movable cellular automaton method, which is a representative of particle methods in solid mechanics, is used for computation. In an initial structure the automata are positioned in FCC packing. The pores are set up explicitly by removing single automata from the initial structure. The computational results show that the curves of dependence of strength and elastic properties of the modeled specimens on porosity have a break at the porosity value about 20 %, i.e. percolation threshold. The obtained results are in close agreement with available experimental data
