MODLEACH: A Variant of LEACH for WSNs
Wireless sensor networks are appearing as an emerging need for mankind.
Though, Such networks are still in research phase however, they have high
potential to be applied in almost every field of life. Lots of research is done
and a lot more is awaiting to be standardized. In this work, cluster based
routing in wireless sensor networks is studied precisely. Further, we modify
one of the most prominent wireless sensor network's routing protocol "LEACH" as
modified LEACH (MODLEACH) by introducing \emph{efficient cluster head
replacement scheme} and \emph{dual transmitting power levels}. Our modified
LEACH, in comparison with LEACH out performs it using metrics of cluster head
formation, through put and network life. Afterwards, hard and soft thresholds
are implemented on modified LEACH (MODLEACH) that boast the performance even
more. Finally a brief performance analysis of LEACH, Modified LEACH (MODLEACH),
MODLEACH with hard threshold (MODLEACHHT) and MODLEACH with soft threshold
(MODLEACHST) is undertaken considering metrics of throughput, network life and
cluster head replacements.Comment: IEEE 8th International Conference on Broadband and Wireless

Case study of active array feed compensation with sidelobe control for reflector surface distortion
The feasibility of electromagnetically compensating for reflector surface distortions has been investigated. The performance characteristics (gain, sidelobe levels, etc.) of large communication antenna systems degrade as the reflector surface distorts mainly due to thermal effects from a varying solar flux. The techniques described in this report can be used to maintain the design performance characteristics independently of thermal effects on the reflector surface. With the advent of monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMIC), a greater flexibility in array-fed reflector system design can be achieved. MMIC arrays provide independent control of amplitude and phase for each of many radiating elements of the feed array. It is assumed that the surface characteristics (x,y,z, its first and second derivatives) under distorted conditions are known
Design Optimization on Seawater Distillation System That Utilizes Exhaust Gas On 300 Gt Fishing Vessel
In the shipbuilding process, planning and calculations are needed, including the planning of the existing systems on the ship, one of which is the freshwater supply system. In planning the freshwater supply system, it is necessary to calculate the fresh water tank, which depends on several parameters such as; length of sailing time, number of ship passengers, and others. There are two options to supply the large freshwater needs, either providing a large tank capacity or a freshwater production system (seawater treatment). However, providing a large space for freshwater tanks will reduce the payload of the ship. Most of the generators' diesel engine combustion can be used to maximize the heat energy wasted through the generators’ diesel engine exhaust gases. The solution that will be pursued is the distillation of seawater into freshwater by utilizing the heat energy of engine exhaust gases, which so far have not been optimally utilized on fishing vessels. In this project, we will discuss the use of exhaust gas for the design optimization of a seawater distillation system that utilizes exhaust gas on a 300 GT fishing vessel
General practitioners\u27 awareness and management of common psychiatric disorders: a community-based survey from Karachi, Pakistan
This study assessed the knowledge and management of common psychiatric disorders by general practitioners (GPs) in Karachi, Pakistan. Structured interviews were carried out in 2009 with 360 GPs selected by cluster random sampling. Patients with psychiatric disorders were estimated to be up to 10% of the daily caseload according to 71.8% of doctors. Two-thirds of GPs were unaware of the ICD-10 diagnostic criteria for depression and anxiety disorders. Benzodiazepines were the most recognized category of medication (75.3%) and were the most commonly used medication for all mental health conditions. Fewer GPs were familiar with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (35.1%) or tricyclic antidepressants (20.2%). Lack of time and patients\u27 financial constraints were reported to be barriers to care. Most GPs (69.2%) had not received any recent medical education about mental health problems. Gaps in GPs\u27 knowledge about the management of mental disorders have implications for the rational use of psychotropic medications in primary care
The effect of distance on observed mortality, childhood pneumonia and vaccine efficacy in rural Gambia.
We investigated whether straight-line distance from residential compounds to healthcare facilities influenced mortality, the incidence of pneumonia and vaccine efficacy against pneumonia in rural Gambia. Clinical surveillance for pneumonia was conducted on 6938 children living in the catchment areas of the two largest healthcare facilities. Deaths were monitored by three-monthly home visits. Children living >5 km from the two largest healthcare facilities had a 2·78 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1·74-4·43] times higher risk of all-cause mortality compared to children living within 2 km of these facilities. The observed rate of clinical and radiological pneumonia was lower in children living >5 km from these facilities compared to those living within 2 km [rate ratios 0·65 (95% CI 0·57-0·73) and 0·74 (95% CI 0·55-0·98), respectively]. There was no association between distance and estimated pneumococcal vaccine efficacy. Geographical access to healthcare services is an important determinant of survival and pneumonia in children in rural Gambia
