    Conceptual study of Yuktaratha Basti and its mode of action

    Basti Chikitsa regarded as the prime treatment modality among the Panchakarma. It is having not only curative action but also preventive and promotive actions. Acharya Sushruta has described various kind of Basti in Chikitsasthana. Yuktarathabasti is a type of Niruhabasti and Vikalpa of Madhutailik Basti. Synonyms are Yapana, Siddha and Yuktarathabasti. As the patient can travel even after the administration of Basti on chariots, back of elephants or horses it is called as Yuktaratha. These are normally strictly contraindicated in Basti therapy as it causes Samkshobha (irritation) and complications. This characteristic of Yuktarathabasti makes it applicable to out-door patients without hospitalization. It enhances Deepana, Pachana and has the Kati, Pada, Jangha, Uru, Trikashoolahara property. So that it can be useful in Vatavyadhis like Sandhigatvata

    COMPARATIVE IN-VITRO ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL ATTRIBUTES OF DIFFERENT SOLVENT EXTRACTS FROM LEAF, BARK, ROOT AND INFLORESCENCE OF MEMECYLON UMBELLATUM BURM.

    This paper describes the antibacterial and antifungal activities and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of different solvent (pet. ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, methanol and water) extracts of leaves, bark, root and inflorescence of Memecylon umbellatum burm. The percent yields from leaves, bark, root and inflorescence was found to be 0.2062 to 2.836, 0.0601 to 0.5142, 0.050 to 1.425, 0.0210 to 0.717 respectively. Overall, acetone extract produced from the leaves exhibited significantly (P < 0.05) higher antibacterial activity along with superior antifungal activity. MIC for acetone and ethyl acetate extract of leaf was found to be 0.5 mg for the entire organisms compared to 3-15 mg for other extracts. Such study will explore pharmacological activity of the tested parts of Memecylon umbellatum burm especially, the leaves which might be valuable for therapeutic applications

    Phytochemical screening and In Vitro Antioxidant potential of Memecylon umbellatum Burm leaf extracts

    Objective: Different dry extracts of Memecylon umbellatum Burm leaf obtained by various solvents such as petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, methanol and chloroform water (IP) was screened to reap the benefits of its antioxidant and free radical scavenging properties using ascorbic acid as standard antioxidants. Methods: The in vitro free radical scavenging activity was evaluated using diphenyl picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical method using various concentrations of dry extract in distilled water (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 20 μg/ml) against blank with ascorbic acid as a standard in same concentrations. Results: Among the all extracts, Methanol leaf extract has showed higher Antioxidant activity (84.65 ± 0.064 %) having IC50 Value 11.81 ± 0.033 μg/ml at 20 μg/ml. While, IC50 value for ascorbic acid was found to be 8.91 ± 0.084 μg/ml. Conclusion: The results clearly indicate that Methanol leaf extract of Memecylon umbellatum is effective in free radical scavenging.     Gravitational field of domain wall in Lyra geometry

    In this paper, we study the domain wall with time dependent displacement vectors based on Lyra geometry in normal gauge i.e. displacement vector fi∗=[β(t),0,0,0]f^*_i = [ \beta (t), 0,0,0]. The field theoretic energy momentum tensor is considered with zero pressure perpendicular to the wall. We find an exact solutions of Einstein equation for a scalar field ϕ\phi with a potential V(ϕ)V(\phi) describing the gravitational field of a plane symmetric domain wall. We have seen that the hyper surfaces parallel to the wall (z=constant z = constant ) are three dimensional de-sitter spaces.     Role of Sadhyovamana as Emergency Procedure in Panchakarma: A Review

    Over the last few decades, common people have a belief that Ayurveda can treat only chronic diseases. In the acute condition, we generally preferred modern medicine. But in that era also, a description of acute diseases suggested the availability of emergency treatment. Panchakarma chikitsa plays a vital role in ayurvedic treatment line, but in emergency cases, due to lack of time, it is not possible to carry out purvakarma, pradhankarma, and pashchat karma of vamana, virechana procedures. In such a condition concept of sadyovamana can be used as emergency treatment. So, to describe the procedure and importance of sadyovamana in comparison with classical vamana procedure critical analysis of literature has been done. It was found that sadyovamana can be used in various atyayika conditions of diseases. In an emergency, as purvakarma is not mandatory to carry out sadyovamana. This procedure can be conducted in a single day. There is no requirement of vishram kala (gap period). Even consideration of kala (time) does not matter many more. It is cost-effective, less time consuming and has an immediate effect, but it lasts for a short period. So, we can use the sadyovamana in the case of atyayika chikitsa of various diseases whenever classical vamana is not possible.&nbsp
