Nonequilibrium electron transport using the density matrix renormalization group

We extended the Density Matrix Renormalization Group method to study the real time dynamics of interacting one dimensional spinless Fermi systems by applying the full time evolution operator to an initial state. As an example we describe the propagation of a density excitation in an interacting clean system and the transport through an interacting nano structure

Clove oil is reported to have a great range of biological activities against many species of pests; termites, cockroaches, aphids, weevils and moths, and many different usages such as perfume and food flavoring agent. This study aimed to determine the acaricidal activity of clove oil emulsifiable concentrate new formulation against two-spotted spider mites Tetranychus urticae. Clove oil was formulated as 10 % emulsifiable concentrate (EC). The new formula passed successfully all physical and chemical tests reported for emulsifiable concentrates. It was then tested biologically on the individuals of two-spotted spider mite T. urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) on two host plants beans and squash under laboratory conditions. In both cases, there were a direct relationship between the increase in the concentration of the formulation and the percentage of inhibition on the individuals of the two-spotted spider mite, after 72 hours of treatment, at concentrations of 20, 40, and 80 mg/ml the new formulation showed 10.30, 44.8, and 75 percent inhibition, respectively in case of beans, while squash at the same concentrations and for the same period of treatment showed 33.3, 40.7, and 51.9 percent inhibition, but the effect in case of beans was greater than that in case of squash as its EC50 value was lower than that in case of squash. In the case of the former, it was 39.81 mg/ml, whereas in the case of the latter, it was 79.43 mg/ml. Therefore, the new clove oil formulation can be used to combat the two-spotted spider mite

Statistical Mechanics of Time Domain Ensemble Learning

Conventional ensemble learning combines students in the space domain. On the other hand, in this paper we combine students in the time domain and call it time domain ensemble learning. In this paper, we analyze the generalization performance of time domain ensemble learning in the framework of online learning using a statistical mechanical method. We treat a model in which both the teacher and the student are linear perceptrons with noises. Time domain ensemble learning is twice as effective as conventional space domain ensemble learning.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figure

Fetal Programming of Renal Development-Influence of Maternal Smoking

Smoking is a known risk factor for non-communicable illness including pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disease, and Type 2 diabetes. Smoking also contributes significantly to the rising `epidemic of chronic kidney disease. It is increasingly recognised that maternal programming of fetal development during pregnancy predisposes offspring to future disease. Maternal smoking, particularly in the first trimester, imposes a significant adverse impact on fetal renal development that determines the future risk of chronic kidney disease. Several mechanisms may contribute. Firstly, epigenetic modification of fetal nuclear or mitochondrial DNA, induced by intrauterine exposure to chemicals within the cigarette smoke, may result in an increased risk for metabolic and renal disorders. Secondly, nicotine and other chemicals within the cigarette smoke can cross the blood placental barrier concentrate in the fetus and result in direct toxicity. Thirdly, malnutrition due to the anorexigenic effect of smoking results in nutritional deficits in the fetus and impairs organ growth and development. 10-45% of pregnant women from diverse populations smoke during pregnancy. Hence it is considered a major and significant public health issue that imposes adverse health consequences not only to the pregnant women, but also inherited by their offspring, and potentially affecting future generations

    Computing singularities of perturbation series

Many properties of current \emph{ab initio} approaches to the quantum many-body problem, both perturbational or otherwise, are related to the singularity structure of Rayleigh--Schr\"odinger perturbation theory. A numerical procedure is presented that in principle computes the complete set of singularities, including the dominant singularity which limits the radius of convergence. The method approximates the singularities as eigenvalues of a certain generalized eigenvalue equation which is solved using iterative techniques. It relies on computation of the action of the perturbed Hamiltonian on a vector, and does not rely on the terms in the perturbation series. Some illustrative model problems are studied, including a Helium-like model with δ\delta-function interactions for which M{\o}ller--Plesset perturbation theory is considered and the radius of convergence found.Comment: 11 figures, submitte
