More on New Massive Gravity: Exact Solutions

We give a novel description of the recently proposed theory of new massive gravity (NMG) in three dimensions. We show that in terms of a Dirac type differential operator acting on the traceless Ricci tensor, the field equations of the theory reduce to the massive Klein-Gordon type equation with a curvature-squared source term and to a constraint equation. Under a certain relation between the source tensor and the traceless Ricci tensor, fulfilled for constant scalar curvature, the field equations of topologically massive gravity (TMG) can be thought of as the "square-root" of the massive Klein-Gordon type equation. Using this fact, we establish a simple framework for mapping all known algebraic types D and N solutions of TMG into NMG. We also present new exact solutions of algebraic types D and N which are only inherent in NMG.Comment: 4 pages, twocolumn REVTeX; Minor cosmetic changes made and new metric adde

    Get PDF
In this paper, we introduce the concept of operator geometrically convex functions for positive linear operators and prove some Hermite-Hadamard type inequalities for these functions. As applications, we obtain trace inequalities for operators which give some refinements of previous results.Comment: Accepted for publishing in Monatshefte fur Mathemati

Developing Students' Ability of Mathematical Connection Through Using Outdoor Mathematics Learning

The Purpose of this study is to determine the achievement and improvement of students' mathematical connectionability through using outdoor mathematics learning. 64 students from the fifth grade of Primary School at SDN 65 and SDN 67 Bengkulu City were taken as the sample of this study. While the method of the research used in this research is experiment with quasi-experimental designs non-equivalent control group. The results of the study are as follows: (1) There is an increasing ability found in mathematical connection of students whom taught by using outdoors mathematics learning is 0,53; (2) Based on statical computation that achievement of students' ability of mathematical connection is taught by using outdoor mathematics learning score is 71,25. It is higher than the students score 66,25 which were taught by using the conventional learning. So as to improve students' mathematical connection, teachers are suggested to use the outdoors mathematics learnin

Improvement of Tuberculosis Laboratory Capacity on Pemba Island, Zanzibar: A Health Cooperation Project.

Low-income countries with high Tuberculosis burden have few reference laboratories able to perform TB culture. In 2006, the Zanzibar National TB Control Programme planned to decentralize TB diagnostics. The Italian Cooperation Agency with the scientific support of the "L. Spallanzani" National Institute for Infectious Diseases sustained the project through the implementation of a TB reference laboratory in a low-income country with a high prevalence of TB. The implementation steps were: 1) TB laboratory design according to the WHO standards; 2) laboratory equipment and reagent supplies for microscopy, cultures, and identification; 3) on-the-job training of the local staff; 4) web- and telemedicine-based supervision. From April 2007 to December 2010, 921 sputum samples were received from 40 peripheral laboratories: 120 TB cases were diagnosed. Of all the smear-positive cases, 74.2% were culture-positive. During the year 2010, the smear positive to culture positive rate increased up to 100%. In March 20, 2010 the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Zanzibar officially recognized the Public Health Laboratory- Ivo de Carneri as the National TB Reference Laboratory for the Zanzibar Archipelago. An advanced TB laboratory can represent a low cost solution to strengthen the TB diagnosis, to provide capacity building and mid-term sustainability

A novel workflow management system for handling dynamic process adaptation and compliance

    Get PDF
Modern enterprise organisations rely on dynamic processes. Generally these processes cannot be modelled once and executed repeatedly without change. Enterprise processes may evolve unpredictably according to situations that cannot always be prescribed. However, no mechanism exists to ensure an updated process does not violate any compliance requirements. Typical workflow processes may follow a process definition and execute several thousand instances using a workflow engine without any changes. This is suitable for routine business processes. However, when business processes need flexibility, adaptive features are needed. Updating processes may violate compliance requirements so automatic verification of compliance checking is necessary. The research work presented in this Thesis investigates the problem of current workflow technology in defining, managing and ensuring the specification and execution of business processes that are dynamic in nature, combined with policy standards throughout the process lifycle. The findings from the literature review and the system requirements are used to design the proposed system architecture. Since a two-tier reference process model is not sufficient as a basis for the reference model for an adaptive and compliance workflow management system, a three-tier process model is proposed. The major components of the architecture consist of process models, business rules and plugin modules. This architecture exhibits the concept of user adaptation with structural checks and dynamic adaptation with data-driven checks. A research prototype - Adaptive and Compliance Workflow Management System (ACWfMS) - was developed based on the proposed system architecture to implement core services of the system for testing and evaluation purposes. The ACWfMS enables the development of a workflow management tool to create or update the process models. It automatically validates compliance requirements and, in the case of violations, visual feedback is presented to the user. In addition, the architecture facilitates process migration to manage specific instances with modified definitions. A case study based on the postgraduate research process domain is discussed

A hybrid model for information security risk assessment

    Get PDF
Many industry standards and methodologies were introduced which has brought forth the management of threats assessment and risk management of information assets in a systematic manner. This paper will review and analyze the main processes followed in IT risk management frameworks from the perspective of the threat analysis process using a threat modeling methodology. In this study, the authors propose a new assessment model which shows that systematic threat analysis is an essential element to be considered as an integrated process within IT risk management frameworks. The new proposed model complements and fulfills the gap in the practice of assessing information security risks

On minimal coverings of groups by proper normalizers

For a finite group GG, a {\it normalizer covering} of GG is a set of proper normalizers of some subgroups of GG whose union is GG. First we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a group having a {\it normalizer covering}. Also, we find some properties of pp-groups (pp a prime) having a normalizer covering. For a group GG with a normalizer covering, we define Οƒn(G)\sigma_n(G) the minimum cardinality amongst all the normalizer coverings of GG. In this article, we show that if GG is a pp-group with a normalizer covering, then Οƒn(G)=p+1\sigma_n(G)=p+1 or 5. Finally, for any prime pp and positive integer kk, we construct a solvable group GG with Οƒn(G)=pk+1\sigma_n(G)=p^k+1
