Clear Evidence for Intranight Optical Variability in Radio-quiet Quasars
We present new clues to the problem of the radio loudness dichotomy arising
from an extensive search for intranight optical variability in seven sets of
optically luminous radio-quiet quasars and (radio-loud) BL Lacertae objects,
which are matched in optical luminosity and redshift. Our monitoring of
radio-quiet quasars has for the first time clearly detected such intranight
variability, with peak-to-peak amplitudes ~1%, occurring with a duty cycle of ~
1/6. The matched BL Lacs have both higher variability amplitudes and duty
cycles when observed in the same fashion. We show that the much less pronounced
intranight variability of the radio-quiet quasars relative to BL Lacs can be
understood in terms of a modest misalignment of the jets in radio-quiet quasars
from the line-of-sight. We thus infer that relativistic particle jets may well
also emerge from radio-quiet quasars, but while traversing the short
optical-emitting distances, they could be snuffed out, possibly through inverse

Large Miscibility Gap in the Ba(Mn_xFe_{1-x})2As2 System
The compounds BaMn2As2 and BaFe2As2 both crystallize in the
body-centered-tetragonal ThCr2Si2-type (122-type) structure at room temperature
but exhibit quite different unit cell volumes and very different magnetic and
electronic transport properties. Evidently reflecting these disparities, we
have discovered a large miscibility gap in the system Ba(Mn_xFe_{1-x})2As2.
Rietveld refinements of powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements on samples
slow-cooled from 1000 C to room temperature (RT) reveal a two-phase mixture of
BaMn2As2 and Ba(Mn_{0.12}Fe_{0.88})2As2 phases together with impurity phases
for x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.8. We infer that there exists a miscibility
gap in this system at 300 K with composition limits 0.12 < x < 1. For samples
quenched from 1000 C to 77 K, the refinements of RT XRD data indicate that the
miscibility gap at RT narrows at 1000 C to 0.2 < x < 0.8. Samples with x=0.4,
0.5 and 0.6 quenched from 1100-1400 C to 77 K contain a single 122-type phase
together with significant amounts of Fe_{1-x}Mn_xAs and FeAs2 impurity phases.
These results indicate that the system is not a pseudo-binary system over the
whole composition range and that the 122-type phase has a significant
homogeneity range at these temperatures. Magnetic susceptibility, electrical
resistivity and heat capacity measurements versus temperature of the
single-phase quenched polycrystalline samples with x = 0.2 and 0.8 and for

Improved characterisation of intra-night optical variability of prominent AGN classes
The incidence of intra-night optical variability (INOV) is known to to differ
significantly among different classes of powerful active galactic nuclei (AGN).
A number of statistical methods have been employed in the literature for
testing the presence of INOV in the light curves, sometimes leading to
discordant results. In this paper we compare the INOV characteristics of six
prominent classes of AGN, as evaluated using three commonly used statistical
tests, namely the test, the modified test and the test, which
has recently begun to gain popularity. The AGN classes considered are:
radio-quiet quasars (RQQs), radio-intermediate quasars (RIQs), lobe-dominated
quasars (LDQs), low optical polarization core-dominated quasars (LPCDQs), high
optical polarization core-dominated quasars (HPCDQs), and TeV blazars. Our
analysis is based on a large body of AGN monitoring data, involving 262
sessions of intra-night monitoring of a total 77 AGN, using 1-2 metre class
optical telescopes located in India. In order to compare the usefulness of the
statistical tests, we have also subjected them to a `sanity check' by comparing
the number of false positives yielded by each test with the corresponding
statistical prediction. The present analysis is intended to serve as a

Multi-epoch intra-night optical monitoring of 8 radio-quiet BL Lac candidates
For a new sample of 8 weak-line-quasars (WLQs) we report a sensitive search
in 20 intranight monitoring sessions, for blazar-like optical flux variations
on hour-like and longer time scale (day/month/yearlike). The sample consists
exclusively of the WLQs that are not radioloud and have either been
classified as `radio-weak probable BL Lac candidates' and/or are known to have
exhibited at least one episode of large, blazarlike optical variability.
Whereas only a hint of intranight variability is seen for two of these WLQs,
J104833.5620305.0(z = 0.219) and J133219.6622715.9 (z = 3.15),
statistically significant internight variability at a few per cent level is
detected for three of the sources, including the radio-intermediate WLQ
J133219.6622715.9 (z = 3.15) and the well known bonafide radioquiet
WLQs J121221.5534128.0 (z = 3.10) and WLQ J153259.9003944.1 (z = 4.62).
In the restframe, this variability is intra-day and in the farUV band. On
the time scale of a decade, we find for three of the WLQs large brightness
changes, amounting to 1.6550.009, 0.1630.010 and 0.1440.018 mag,
for J104833.5620305.0, J123743.1630144.9 and J232428.4144324.4,
respectively. Whereas the latter two are confirmed radio-quiet WLQs, the
extragalactic nature of J104833.5620305.0 remains to be well established,
thanks to the absence of any feature(s) in its available optical spectra. The
present study forms a part of our ongoing campaign of intranight optical
monitoring of radio quiet weak-line quasars, in order to improve the
understanding of this enigmatic class of Active Galactic Nuclei and to look

Mature cystic teratoma of anterior mediastinum: a case report
Mediatinal mature cystic teratoma is a rare type of extra gonadal teratoma, comprising 1-5% of all mediastinal tumors. Its atypical presentation can sometimes lead to misdiagnosis, highlighting the importance of careful evaluation and intervention. We report a case of a 57-year-old male patient presenting with the complaints of chest pain and dyspnea on exertion associated with cough since 2-3 months prior to admission. Chest x ray showed a well-defined opacity in the right hemithorax. Patient underwent mass excision by median sternotomy approach. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of mature cystic teratoma. While anterior mediastinal teratomas are uncommon, complete surgical excision is often the primary and effective treatment. In many cases, successful removal without complications can lead to cure
On the photometric error calibration for the `differential light curves' of point-like Active Galactic Nuclei
It is important to quantify the underestimation of rms photometric errors
returned by the commonly used \emph APPHOT algorithm in the \emph IRAF
software, in the context of differential photometry of point-like AGN, because
of the crucial role it plays in evaluating their variability properties.
Published values of the underestimation factor, , using several different
telescopes, lie in the range 1.3 - 1.75. The present study aims to revisit this
question by employing an exceptionally large data set of 262 differential light
curves (DLCs) derived from 262 pairs of non-varying stars monitored under our
ARIES AGN monitoring program for characterizing the intra-night optical
variability (INOV) of prominent AGN classes. The bulk of these data were taken
with the 1-m Sampurnanad Telescope (ST). We find = 1.540.05 which
is close to our recently reported value of = 1.5. Moreover, this
consistency holds at least up to a brightness mismatch of 1.5 mag between the
paired stars. From this we infer that a magnitude difference of at least up to
1.5 mag between a point-like AGN and comparison star(s) monitored
simultaneously is within the same CCD chip acceptable, as it should not lead to

Fly ash based bricks and blocks produced in Hindalco Industries Ltd, when used for constraction of residential clolony premises and road pavements resply, at Renusagar have been proved to be quite economical and better in performance than the clay bricks. Theaverage crushing strengths of fly ash based bricks and blocks are 120 to 180 Kg/cm2 and 180-200 kg/cm2 respectively which are much higher than those produced from clay.
