Effect of the W-term for a t-U-W Hubbard ladder

Antiferromagnetic and d_{x2-y2}-pairing correlations appear delicately balanced in the 2D Hubbard model. Whether doping can tip the balance to pairing is unclear and models with additional interaction terms have been studied. In one of these, the square of a local hopping kinetic energy H_W was found to favor pairing. However, such a term can be separated into a number of simpler processes and one would like to know which of these terms are responsible for enhancing the pairing. Here we analyze these processes for a 2-leg Hubbard ladder

Precise nondivergent analytic formulas for the radiative corrections to the beta energy spectrum in hyperon semileptonic decays over the entire Dalitz plot

Very accurate analytical expressions for the radiative corrections of unpolarized hyperons semileptonic decays of charged and neutral baryons have been obtained in the recent past. Some of these formulas contain logarithmic singularities at the edges of the Dalitz plot for the three- and four-body decays. These singularities are analyzed and integrated analytically to obtain new divergentless formulas for the energy spectrum of the produced beta particle. The new equations contain terms of the order alpha times the momentum transfer, are applicable to any beta decay process and are suitable for a model-independent experimental analysis.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figure

Detection of ultrafast oscillations in Superconducting Point-Contacts by means of Supercurrent Measurements

We present a microscopic calculation of the nondissipative current through a superconducting quantum point contact coupled to a mechanical oscillator. Using the non-equilibrium Keldysh Green function approach, we determine the current-phase relation. The latter shows that at certain phases, the current is sharply suppressed. These dips in the current-phase relation provide information about the oscillating frequency and coupling strength of the mechanical oscillator. We also present an effective two-level model from which we obtain analytical expressions describing the position and width of the dips. Our findings are of relevance for nanomechanical resonators based on superconducting materials.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures. Published in Phys. Rev.

Spectrum of Higgs particles in the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

We discuss the spectrum of Higgs bosons in the framework of the exceptional supersymmetric standard model. The presence of a ZZ' and exotic particles predicted by the exceptional SUSY model allows the lightest Higgs particle to be significantly heavier than in the MSSM and NMSSM. When the mass of the lightest Higgs boson is larger than 135140GeV135-140 {GeV} the heaviest scalar, pseudoscalar and charged Higgs states lie beyond the TeV{TeV} range.Comment: Presented at 12th Lomonosov Conference on Elementary Particle Physics, Moscow, Russia, 25-31 August 2005, some minor changes to the text, references adde

Around 200 new X-ray binary IDs from 13 years of Chandra observations of the M31 center

We have created 0.3--10 keV, 13 year, unabsorbed luminosity lightcurves for 528 X-ray sources in the central 20' of M31. We have 174 Chandra observations spaced at ~1 month intervals thanks to our transient monitoring program, deeper observations of the M31 nucleus, and some public data from other surveys. We created 0.5--4.5 keV structure functions (SFs) for each source, for comparison with the ensemble structure function of AGN. We find 220 X-ray sources with luminosities > ~1E+35 erg/s that have SFs with significantly more variability than the ensemble AGN SF, and are likely X-ray binaries (XBs). A further 30 X-ray sources were identified as XBs using other methods. We therefore have 250 probable XBs in total, including ~200 new identifications. This result represents great progress over the ~50 XBs and ~40 XB candidates previously identified out of the ~2000 X-ray sources within the D_25 region of M31; it also demonstrates the power of SF analysis for identifying XBs in external galaxies. We also identify a new transient black hole candidate, associated with the M31 globular cluster B128.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ; 20 pages, 7 figures; Tables 1 and 2 continue after the references (8 pages
