Effect of nuclear interactions of neutral kaons on CP asymmetry measurements

We examine the effect of the difference in nuclear interactions of K0{K}^0 and Kˉ0\bar{K}^0 mesons on the measurement of CP asymmetry for experiments at e+e−e^+e^- colliders - charm and BB-meson factories. We find that this effect on CP asymmetry can be as large as 0.3%, and therefore sufficiently significant in interpreting measurements of CP asymmetry when neutral kaons are present in the final state.Comment: accepted to PR

Three dimensional tracking with misalignment between display and control axes

    Get PDF
Human operators confronted with misaligned display and control frames of reference performed three dimensional, pursuit tracking in virtual environment and virtual space simulations. Analysis of the components of the tracking errors in the perspective displays presenting virtual space showed that components of the error due to visual motor misalignment may be linearly separated from those associated with the mismatch between display and control coordinate systems. Tracking performance improved with several hours practice despite previous reports that such improvement did not take place

Quantum State Discrimination with General Figures of Merit

We solve the problem of quantum state discrimination with "general (symmetric) figures of merit" for an even number of symmetric quantum bits with use of the no-signaling principle. It turns out that conditional probability has the same form for any figure of merit. Optimal measurement and corresponding conditional probability are the same for any monotonous figure of merit.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

Low energy proton-proton scattering in effective field theory

Low energy proton-proton scattering is studied in pionless effective field theory. Employing the dimensional regularization and MS-bar and power divergence subtraction schemes for loop calculation, we calculate the scattering amplitude in 1S0 channel up to next-to-next-to leading order and fix low-energy constants that appear in the amplitude by effective range parameters. We study regularization scheme and scale dependence in separation of Coulomb interaction from the scattering length and effective range for the S-wave proton-proton scattering.Comment: 23 pages, 6 eps figures, revised considerably, accepted for publication in Phys. Marangoni Effects on the Bubble Dynamics in a Pressure Driven Flow

    Get PDF
The motion of air bubbles and water drops in a Hele-Shaw cell filled with a silicone oil has been studied experimentally and theoretically. By adding a predetermined amount of a surfactant to the water drops we attempted to investigate the surfactant influence systematically. While the motion of air bubbles was in reasonable agreement with the predictions of Taylor and Saffman, water drops behaved quite differently in that the translational velocities were smaller by an order of magnitude and their shapes were very unusual as observed previously by Kopf-Sill and Homsy. Assuming that the surrounding fluid wets the solid wall and the bubble (or the drop) surface is rigid due to the surfactant influence, we have estimated the translational velocity of an elliptic bubble. The calculated velocities were in good agreement with the observations indicating that the surfactant influence could retard the bubble motion significantly. The present study also indicates that the unusual bubble shapes are also due to the surfactant influence

Threshold electric field in unconventional density waves

As it is well known most of charge density wave (CDW) and spin density wave (SDW) exhibit the nonlinear transport with well defined threshold electric field E_T. Here we study theoretically the threshold electric field of unconventional density waves. We find that the threshold field increases monotonically with temperature without divergent behaviour at T_c, unlike the one in conventional CDW. The present result in the 3D weak pinning limit appears to describe rather well the threshold electric field observed recently in the low-temperature phase (LTP) of alpha-(BEDT-TTF)_2KHg(SCN)_4.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

Holographic interacting dark energy in the braneworld cosmology

We investigate a model of brane cosmology to find a unified description of the radiation-matter-dark energy universe. It is of the interacting holographic dark energy with a bulk-holographic matter χ\chi. This is a five-dimensional cold dark matter, which plays a role of radiation on the brane. Using the effective equations of state ωΛeff\omega^{\rm eff}_{\rm \Lambda} instead of the native equations of state ωΛ\omega_{\rm \Lambda}, we show that this model cannot accommodate any transition from the dark energy with ωΛeff≥−1\omega^{\rm eff}_{\rm \Lambda}\ge-1 to the phantom regime ωΛeff<−1\omega^{\rm eff}_{\rm \Lambda}<-1. Furthermore, the case of interaction between cold dark matter and five dimensional cold dark matter is considered for completeness. Here we find that the redshift of matter-radiation equality zeqz_{\rm eq} is the same order as zeqob=2.4×104Ωmh2z^{\rm ob}_{\rm eq}=2.4\times10^{4} \Omega_{\rm m}h^2. Finally, we obtain a general decay rate Γ\Gamma which is suitable for describing all interactions including the interaction between holographic dark energy and cold dark matter.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figure

Thermal conductivity in B- and C- phase of UPt_3

Although the superconductivity in UPt_3 is one of the most well studied, there are still lingering questions about the nodal directions in the B and C phase in the presence of a magnetic field. Limiting ourselves to the low temperature regime (T<<Delta(0)), we study the magnetothermal conductivity with in semiclassical approximation using Volovik's approach. The angular dependence of the magnetothermal conductivity for an arbitrary field direction should clarify the nodal structure in UPt_3.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
