The purpose of conducting festivals is to bring joy, growth and rejuvenation to people's lives by removing fatigue, bringing the human race together and imbuing them with happiness. They appear on the basis of rituals and are influenced by social beliefs and are prevailing among the people. Festivals are a unified set of rituals that are fundamental to a festival. Festivals are celebrated on the basis of faith. There are many Tamil words used by ancient Tamil people to denote festival. Literary evidence suggests that in ancient times festivals were celebrated in Chittoor and Peroor. Festivals were celebrated in the morning and evening. The festivals lasted for several days. The renewed water festival is held in the morning and Kartikai festival in the evening. The ceremonies performed are started on an auspicious day and at an auspicious time. Festivals known through ancirnt Tamil literature can be divided into two categories, festivals related to deities and non-god festivals, such as Panguni Festival, Paavai Festival, and Onam festival, Kaman Festival, Karthikai Festival, Indra Festival, Birthday Festival, Punalatu Festival, Poonthotta Festival, Ulli Festival, Thiruvadhirai Festival, and Sirusotru Festival and so on

Objectives: Hibiscus rosa sinensis possess many properties and this plant may procured at large scale for providing herbal alternative to many diseases. The study was planned to prepare value added ready to eat powders by incorporation of Hibiscus rosa sinensis. The flowers of Hibiscus were processed and dried powder was incorporated into commonly prepared ready to powders namely Chutney powder, Avalose powder and Prawn powder at a ratio of 10%, 20% and 30% respectively. Methods: Organoleptic and quantitative analysis was screened in Hibiscus incorporated ready to eat foods. Results: Evaluation of organoleptic of the formulated powders showed that the incorporation of hibiscus at 10% was highly acceptable in terms of appearance, colour, flavour, texture and taste. The increase in nutrient content on incorporation of hibiscus at 10% was found to be 3.83 kcal,16.57 kcal and 0.25 kcal of energy; 0.24g, 1.18g and 0.58g of protein; 1.85g, 1.76g and 0.33g of fat in chutney powder, prawn powder and avalose powder respectively. The minerals were also increased by incorporating hibiscus at 10% which was found to be 4 mg, 12 mg and 1.06 mg of calcium; 8.02 mg, 14 mg and 8.22 mg of phosphorous; 0.8 mg 1.35 mg and 1.65 mg of iron; 4.33 mg, 5 mg and 18 mg of potassium and 0.6 mg, 1.2 mg and 0.5 mg of vitamin C in chutney powder, prawn powder and avalose powder respectively. Avalose powder had maximum phenolic content (1.04 mg/100g) compared with chutney powder (1.57 mg/100g) and prawn powder (1.04 mg/100g) and flavanoid content is high in chutney powder (2.96 mg/100g). The ready to eat powders had good shelf life at room temperature for a period of 30 d in LDPE. Conclusion: The incorporation of hibiscus at 10% was found to improve the nutrient content like energy, protein, fat, calcium, phosphorous, potassium, iron, vitamin c and antioxidant like total phenol and flavanoid. The shelf life of ready to eat powders stored in LDPE was good for 30 d. The bacterial growth was less in LDPE packaging

Evaluation of outcome of mode of delivery in severe preeclampsia

    Get PDF
Background: Preeclampsia is new onset hypertension of more than 140/90 mmHg on 2 occasions, 4 hours apart in pregnancy, which occurs after 20 weeks of gestation and frequently near term. If there are other symptoms like as headache, blurred vision from end organ damage, and thrombocytopenia, it is characterized as severe preeclampsia. Regardless of the foetal outcome, treatment for severe preeclampsia is immediate delivery. The goal of the current study is to assess how different delivery methods affect individuals with severe preeclampsia. Methods: It is a retrospective study conducted in RL Jalappa hospital, Kolar from January 2021 to February 2022. Out of 2568 deliveries at our facility throughout the study period, 150 singleton pregnancies complicated by severe preeclampsia delivered at 24-34 weeks of gestation were chosen for the study. Women who had additional obstetric, foetal, or medical difficulties were not included in the study. Results: 110 study participants had an LSCS form of delivery out of the total. Among them, non-reassuring fetal heart rate, obstructed labor, and malpresentation were the most typical indicators for LSCS. The difference between Bishop's score and the mode of delivery was statistically significant. There was no discernible difference between the newborn's APGAR score immediately following delivery and the method of delivery. Conclusions: There are strong chances of a normal vaginal birth if the Bishop score at the time of admission and induction is more than 4

A cross sectional observational study to evaluate the maternal and fetal outcome in postdated pregnancies

    Get PDF
Background: Post-dated pregnancy is when the gestation is more than 40 weeks or 280 days. They last longer than the estimated date of delivery. Postdated pregnancies are associated with increased perinatal and maternal complications. These risks are greater than it was originally thought. Risks have been underestimated in the past leading to increasing number of complicated postdated pregnancies which appears to be otherwise low risk. The maternal risks are very often underappreciated resulting in increased maternal morbidity. Methods: This cross sectional observational study was done to evaluate maternal and fetal complications associated with Postdated pregnancies was carried out in the department of obstetrics and gynecology in a tertiary care centre, Sir Devraj Urs Medical College and RL Jalappa Hospital, Kolar between July 2018 and July 2019, fulfilling all the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: 50 out of 100 patients had full term normal deliveries where as 45% patients required cesarean section. Most common indication for cesarean section was meconium stained liquor with fetal distress (25%). 42% of the babies born needed NICU admission. Most common maternal complication seen was Postpartum Hemorrhage. Conclusions: The present study we conclude that postdated pregnancy was associated with significant risk of perinatal complications such as fetal distress, meconium aspiration syndrome and IUGR. There was increased risk of obstetric complications as well like atonic PPH, oligohydramnios, obstructed labor
