An interferometer based phase control system

    Get PDF
An interferometer based phase control system for focusing and pointing the solar power satellite (SPS) power beam is discussed. The system is ground based and closed loop. One receiving antenna is required on Earth. A conventional uplink data channel transmits an 8 bit phase error correction back to the SPS for sequential calibration of each power module. Beam pointing resolution is better than 140 meters at the rectenna

OGY Control of Haken Like Systems on Different Poincare Sections

The Chua system, the Lorenz system, the Chen system and The L\"u system are chaotic systems that their state space equations is very similar to Haken system which is a nonlinear model of a optical slow-fast system. These Haken-Like Sys-tems have very similar properties. All have two slow but unstable eigenvalues and one fastest but stable eigenvalue. This lets that an approximation of slow manifold be equivalent with unstable manifold of the system. In other hand, control of discreet model of the system on a defined manifold (Poincare map) is main essence of some important control methods of chaotic systems for example OGY method. Here, by using different methods of defining slow manifold of the H-L systems the efficiency of the OGY control for stabilizing problem investigated.Comment: 4 page

    A power satellite sonic simulator

    Get PDF
A simulator is described which generates and transmits a beam of audible sound energy mathematically similar to the solar power satellite (SPS) power beam. The simulator provides a laboratory means for analysis of ground based closed loop SPS phase control and of ionospheric effects on the SPS microwave power beam

Neutron methods for the direct determination of the magnetic induction in thick films

We review different neutron methods which allow extracting directly the value of the magnetic induction in thick films: Larmor precession, Zeeman spatial beam-splitting and neutron spin resonance. Resulting parameters obtained by the neutron methods and standard magnetometry technique are presented and compared. The possibilities and specificities of the neutron methods are discussed

Beat frequency interference pattern characteristics study

    Get PDF
The frequency spectra and corresponding beat frequencies created by the relative motions between multiple Solar Power Satellites due to solar wind, lunar gravity, etc. were analyzed. The results were derived mathematically and verified through computer simulation. Frequency spectra plots were computer generated. Detailed computations were made for the seven following locations in the continental US: Houston, Tx.; Seattle, Wa.; Miami, Fl.; Chicago, Il.; New York, NY; Los Angeles, Ca.; and Barberton, Oh

    City business cycles and crime

    Get PDF
We explore the influence of city-level business cycle fluctuations on crime in 20 large cities in the United States. Our monthly time series analysis considers seven crimes over an approximately 20-year period: murder, rape, assault, robbery, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. Short-run changes in economic conditions, as measured by changes in unemployment and wages, are found to have little effect on city crime across many cities, but property crimes were more likely to be influenced by changes in economic conditions than were more violent crimes. Contrary to the deterrence hypothesis, we find strong evidence that in many cities more arrests follow from an increase in crime rather than arrests leading to a decrease in crime. This is true especially for the more visible crimes of robbery and vehicle theft and suggests that city officials desire to remove these crimes from the public's view.Business cycles ; Cities and towns ; Crime
