75/Stosowanie G-CSF w trakcie chemioradioterapii – ocena bezpieczeństwa
Materiał i metodykaW okresie od sierpnia 2003 do kwietnia 2004 w Zakładzie i Oddziale Radioterapii w Olsztynie u 25 chorych leczonych w sposób skojarzony (chemioradioterapia jednoczasowa) stosowano w trakcie radioterapii granocyt, w celu zminimalizowania przerw w leczeniu i podania chemioterapii w zaplanowanym czasie.
Environmental bases of ecological consciousness
trwania, podstawowe uwarunkowania sytuacji ekologicznej województwa katowickiego.
W części drugiej przedstawiono (w postaci danych statystycznych)
ogólną sytuację ekologiczną województwa oraz stan prowadzonych inwestycji
proekologicznych
Social transformation of great mining regions : experience of the 20th century : prospects for the 21th century (the case of Upper Silesia, Poland)
This article, which deals with civilizational challenges of Upper Silesian mining communities at the end of the 20th century, consists of five complementary parts. In Part I, we present a diagnosis of economic and social
situation of this catastrophic and scansen-type region of Poland and Europe.
Part II deals with the history of mining local communities, from the early years of this branch of industry (which are given documentary evidence) to the end of the Second World War. In Part III, we reconstruct the changes within these communities in the time of real socialism (1945-1989). In the next part, we suggest necessary and radical changes in ,UPPer Silesian mining and associated social structure. The last part of an article is an attempt to describe a regional social agreement called the Regional Contract. The Document was prepared in the Katowice voivodship in 1995 by numerous economic institutions, political parties, trade unions, social and cultural organisations. Its main purpose is quick and complex restructuring of the economy of the region, together with coal mining industry and mining communities. (fragment tekstu
Isotope age constraint for the Blue Dyke and Jardine Peak subvertical intrusions of King George Island, West Antarctica
The Blue Dyke and Jardine Peak are subvertical hypabyssal intrusions cutting a
stratiform volcanic sequence in the Admiralty Bay area on King George Island (South
Shetlands, Antarctica). The rocks are porphyritic, crystal−rich basaltic andesites. Tiny zir−
con crystals were used for single grain SHRIMP U−Pb dating. The mean ages calculated for
the zircon populations from both intrusions indicates Late Oligocene (Chattian) formations.
Zircon grains from the Blue Dyke gave the mean age of 27.9±0.3 Ma, whereas those from
the Jardine Peak are slightly younger displaying the mean age of 25.4 ± 0.4 Ma: a Late
Oligocene (Chattian) crystallization age the inferred of both these intrusions. These are
much younger than previous Eocene K−Ar and Ar−Ar ages for such rocks and suggest that
formation of the King George Island intrusions can be related to tectonic processes that ac−
companied the opening of the Drake Passage

Targeting autophagy: a novel anticancer strategy with therapeutic implications for imatinib resistance
Autophagy is an ancient, intracellular degradative system which plays important roles in regulating protein homeostasis and which is essential for survival when cells are faced with metabolic stress. Increasing evidence suggests that autophagy also functions as a tumor suppressor mechanism that harnesses the growth and/or survival of cells as they transition towards a rapidly dividing malignant state. However, the impact of autophagy on cancer progression and on the efficacy of cancer therapeutics is controversial. In particular, although the induction of autophagy has been reported after treatment with a number of therapeutic agents, including imatinib, this response has variously been suggested to either impair or contribute to the effects of anticancer agents. More recent studies support the notion that autophagy compromises the efficacy of anticancer agents, where agents such as chloroquine (CQ) that impair autophagy augment the anticancer activity of histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors and alkylating agents. Inhibition of autophagy is a particularly attractive strategy for the treatment of imatinib-refractory chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) since a combination of CQ with the HDAC inhibitor suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) compromises the survival of even BCR-ABL-T315I+ imatinib-resistant CML. Additional studies are clearly needed to establish the clinical utility of autophagy inhibitors and to identify patients most likely to benefit from this novel therapeutic approach
Ludzie i organizacje lokalnej sceny politycznej : przypadek Tychów
The authors, making use of the accomplishments of sociology of everyday life, and
especially of the theatrical conception, analyse the local political stage in one of the Katowice province towns — in Tychy. These consideration concentrate on the mechanism of functioning of the regional political stage in the period of change and the specificity of the new socialist town — Tychy. Attention is paid to the mechanisms of filling the stage and to the behaviour of the „actors” playing their parts on it. In this way the authors prove that the stage is not yet fully structured and that the process of filling up the stage is still going on
