Thermo-mechanical nonlinear dynamics of a buckled axially moving beam

    No full text
The thermo-mechanical nonlinear dynamics of a buckled axially moving beam is numerically investigated, with special consideration to the case with a three-to-one internal resonance between the first two modes. The equation of motion of the system traveling at a constant axial speed is obtained using Hamilton’s principle. A closed form solution is developed for the post-buckling configuration for the system with an axial speed beyond the first instability. The equation of motion over the buckled state is obtained for the forced system. The equation is reduced into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations via the Galerkin method. This set is solved using the pseudo-arclength continuation technique to examine the frequency response curves and direct-time integration to construct bifurcation diagrams of Poincaré maps. The vibration characteristics of the system at points of interest in the parameter space are presented in the form of time histories, phase-plane portraits, and Poincaré sections.Siavash Kazemirad, Mergen H. Thermal effects on nonlinear vibrations of an axially moving beam with an intermediate spring-mass support

The thermo-mechanical nonlinear vibrations and stability of a hinged-hinged axially moving beam, additionally supported by a nonlinear spring-mass support are examined via two numerical techniques. The system is subjected to a transverse harmonic excitation force as well as a thermal loading. Hamilton's principle is employed to derive the equations of motion; it is discretized into a multi-degree-freedom system by means of the Galerkin method. The steady state resonant response of the system for both cases with and without an internal resonance between the first two modes is examined via the pseudo-arclength continuation technique. In the second method, direct time integration is employed to construct bifurcation diagrams of Poincaré maps of the system

Thermo-mechanical nonlinear vibration analysis of a spring-mass-beam system

    No full text
Thermo-mechanical vibrations of a simply supported spring-mass-beam system are investigated analytically in this paper. Taking into account the thermal effects, the nonlinear equations of motion and internal/ external boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton’s principle and constitutive relations. Under quasi-static assumptions, the equations governing the longitudinal motion are transformed into functions of transverse displacements, which results in three integro-partial differential equations with coupling terms. These are solved using the direct multiple-scale method, leading to closed-form solutions for the mode functions, nonlinear natural frequencies and frequency–response curves of the system. The influence of system parameters on the linear and nonlinear natural frequencies, mode functions, and frequency–response curves is studied through numerical parametric analysis. It is shown that the vibration characteristics depend on the mid-plane stretching, intra-span spring, point mass, and temperature change.Mergen H. Ghayesh, Siavash Kazemirad, Mohammad A. Background and study aims: Homeobox-containing genes are composed of a group of regulatory genes encoding transcription factors involved in the control of developmental processes. The homeodomain proteins could activate or repress the expression of downstream target genes. This study was conducted to in vivo identify the potential target gene(s) of TGIF2LX in colorectal adenocarcinoma. Methods: A human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line, SW48, was transfected with the recombinant pEGFPN1-TGIF2LX. The cells were injected subcutaneously into the flank of the three groups of 6-week-old female athymic C56BL/6 nude mice (n = 6 per group). The transcript profiles in the developed tumours were investigated using the cDNA amplified fragment length polymorphism (cDNA-AFLP) technique. Results: The real-time RT-PCR and DNA sequencing data for the identified genes indicated that the N-terminal domain-interacting receptor 1 (Nir1) gene was suppressed whereas Nir2 and fragile histidine triad (FHIT) genes were upregulated followed by the overexpression of TGIF2LX gene. Conclusion: Downregulation of Nir1 and upregulation of Nir2 and FHIT genes due to the overexpression of TGIF2LX suggests that the gene plays an important role as a suppressor in colorectal adenocarcinoma. © 2018 Pan-Arab Association of Gastroenterolog
