Analysis of the linkages between fishermen and extension personnel in marine fisheries in Kerala
In marine fisheries the linkages between the fishermen and the extension system play an
important role in technology transfer and its adoption. Research studies on linkages in marine fisheries
are very limited. So thls study was taken up to find out the linkage activities through which both the
systems are contacting each other. It was found that 60 % of the fishermen had medium level of
linkage of with the extension personnel followed by low (21.33%) and high (19.34%) linkage level.
The paper also highlights the frequency of linkage and the level of perception about linkages between
the two systems. The paper implies that the linkage activities need to be enhanced so as to derive an
overall development in the fisheries sector
Pharmacokinetics of oral busulphan in children with beta thalassaemia major undergoing allogeneic bone marrow transplantation
The pharmacokinetics of busulphan were studied in 23 thalassaemic children undergoing BMT. Patients received busulphan at a dose of either 16 mg/kg with cyclophosphamide and ATG (Group A) or 600 mg/m2 (with cyclophosphamide alone) (Group B) in 16 divided doses every 6 h over 4 days. Busulphan levels were analyzed by a modified GC-MS method. The dose of busulphan/kg for patients in group B was 64% (range 56-71%) higher than that for patients in group A. The mean AUC, Css, Cmax and MRV were significantly higher in group B as compared with group A for both doses 1 and 13. There was no significant difference in Vd/F, T1/2 and Kel between the two groups. A significant decrease in AUC and Css was found between 1st and 13th doses in group B, but not in group A. The Cl/F values in group A were significantly higher than those in group B after dose 1, but not after dose 13. No increase in toxicity due to the higher dose of busulphan was noted. We conclude that busulphan at 600 mg/m2 results in much higher systemic exposure to the drug as compared to 16 mg/kg, without increase in toxicity in children with beta thalassaemia major
Fault simulation and fuzzy controller for high pressure heater in thermal power plant (writers from India)
This paper presents fault simulation and design of fuzzy logic controller for a high pressure heater in a thermal
power plant. An analytical model for the system has been presented in the nonlinear state space form based on fundamental physical laws. The mathematical model is validated with the real time plant data. A fuzzy controller is developed, which performs like a classical proportional plus integral controller, giving the level reference variation based on error in condensate level inside a heater and its change. The state variables are estimated for the normal and faulty condition using
the model which is simulated using the plant data. The performances of both controllers are evaluated and the faults are simulated using Matlab simulink
Fault diagnosis in deaerator using fuzzy logic
In this paper a fuzzy logic based fault diagnosis system for a deaerator in a power plant unit is presented. The
system parameters are obtained using the linearised state space deaerator model. The fuzzy inference system is created and
rule base are evaluated relating the parameters to the type and severity of the faults. These rules are fired for specific changes
in system parameters and the faults are diagnosed
OPTIMIZED FUZZY MODELLING OF A BOILER SUPERHEATER
Modelling of systems is very much useful to study the response of a system for different input variations and for the design of control schemes in both real time application and in the off-line simulation. The development of optimized fuzzy model for a boiler superheater of a 210 MW coal fired thermal boiler power plant is reported in this paper. The fuzzy model has been developed first taking into the input output data sequences of the transfer function model. The complexity of the fuzzy model is removed by means of various optimization techniques. The resulting optimized model is complete, compact, and consistent (C 3). Simulation study has been carried out on the fuzzy model both prior and after optimization to get the response of the superheater for various inputs. These results are validated with the results of the transfer function model and are found to be analogous. 1
