    Erfolgsanalyse zur chirurgischen Behandlung der rhegmatogenen Ablatio retinae durch externe Plombenaufnähung:Eine Auswertung des Patientengutes der Universitäts-Augenklinik Münster über den Zeitraum von 1980 - 2001

    Gegenstand dieser Untersuchung war die retrospektive Analyse der Ergebnisse von 4325 Netzhautoperationen, die im Zeitraum von 1980-2001 an der Universitätsklinik Münster vorgenommen wurden. Als Erfolg wurde eine zirkulär trockene Anlage der Netzhaut nach dem primären operativen Eingriff gewertet. 83,98% (n=3632) der insgesamt 4325 Netzhautoperationen endeten erfolgreich. Bei einer nicht-traumatisch bedingten Ablatio (n=3956) beträgt die Erfolgsrate 84,02% (n=3324). Insgesamt entsprechen die Ergebnisse den international bekannten Erfolgsraten, die von einer durchschnittlichen Erfolgsrate von ca. 80% sprechen. Abweichende Ergebnisse findet die randomisierte, kontrollierte multizentrische Studie zur Netzhautablösung von Heimann et al. [22]

    Next-to-leading order diphoton+2-jet production at the LHC

    We present results from a recent calculation of prompt photon-pair production in association with two jets to next-to-leading order (NLO) at the LHC. The virtual contribution is evaluated using the BlackHat library, a numerical implementation of on-shell methods for one-loop amplitudes, in conjunction with SHERPA. We study four sets of cuts: standard jet cuts, a set of Higgs-related cuts suggested by ATLAS, and corresponding sets which isolate the kinematic region where the process becomes the largest background to Higgs production via vector-boson fusion.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, Presented at 11th International Symposium on Radiative Corrections (RADCOR 2013), 22-27 September 2013, Lumley Castle Hotel, Durham, U

    Next-to-Leading Order W + 5-Jet Production at the LHC

    We present next-to-leading order QCD predictions for the total cross section and for a comprehensive set of transverse-momentum distributions in W + 5-jet production at the Large Hadron Collider. We neglect the small contributions from subleading-color virtual terms, top quarks and some terms containing four quark pairs. We also present ratios of total cross sections, and use them to obtain an extrapolation formula to an even larger number of jets. We include the decay of the WW boson into leptons. This is the first such computation with six final-state vector bosons or jets.     History-Dependent Mechanical Properties of Permeabilized Rat Soleus Muscle Fibers

    AbstractPermeabilized rat soleus muscle fibers were subjected to repeated triangular length changes (paired ramp stretches/releases, 0.03 l0,±0.1 l0 s−1 imposed under sarcomere length control) to investigate whether the rate of stiffness recovery after movement increased with the level of Ca2+ activation. Actively contracting fibers exhibited a characteristic tension response to stretch: tension rose sharply during the initial phase of the movement before dropping slightly to a plateau, which was maintained during the remainder of the stretch. When the fibers were stretched twice, the initial phase of the response was reduced by an amount that depended on both the level of Ca2+ activation and the elapsed time since the first movement. Detailed analysis revealed three new and important findings. 1) The rates of stiffness and tension recovery and 2) the relative height of the tension plateau each increased with the level of Ca2+ activation. 3) The tension plateau developed more quickly during the second stretch at high free Ca2+ concentrations than at low. These findings are consistent with a cross-bridge mechanism but suggest that the rate of the force-generating power-stroke increases with the intracellular Ca2+ concentration and cross-bridge strain

    Axial distribution of myosin binding protein-C is unaffected by mutations in human cardiac and skeletal muscle

    Myosin binding protein-C (MyBP-C), a major thick filament associated sarcomeric protein, plays an important functional and structural role in regulating sarcomere assembly and crossbridge formation. Missing or aberrant MyBP-C proteins (both cardiac and skeletal) have been shown to cause both cardiac and skeletal myopathies, thereby emphasising its importance for the normal functioning of the sarcomere. Mutations in cardiac MyBP-C are a major cause of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), while mutations in skeletal MyBP-C have been implicated in a disease of skeletal muscle—distal arthrogryposis type 1 (DA-1). Here we report the first detailed electron microscopy studies on human cardiac and skeletal tissues carrying MyBP-C gene mutations, using samples obtained from HCM and DA-1 patients. We have used established image averaging methods to identify and study the axial distribution of MyBP-C on the thick filament by averaging profile plots of the A-band of the sarcomere from electron micrographs of human cardiac and skeletal myopathy specimens. Due to the difficulty of obtaining normal human tissue, we compared the distribution to the A-band structure in normal frog skeletal, rat cardiac muscle and in cardiac muscle of MyBP-C-deficient mice. Very similar overall profile averages were obtained from the C-zones in cardiac HCM samples and skeletal DA-1 samples with MyBP-C gene mutations, suggesting that mutations in MyBP-C do not alter its mean axial distribution along the thick filament
