    In this study thirty-eight strains of Salmonella enterica serovar Infantis isolated in Marche Region from human cases, food, animal and environmental samples were analyzed by Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE). All strains were typed by the DNA macro-restriction patterns obtained following PFGE of XbaI digests, while antimicrobial susceptibility testing of isolates was performed by the standardized disk diffusion method. The analysis of PFGE patterns by Bionumerics software demonstrated a strong similarity of S. infantis XbaI profiles, while the antimicrobial susceptibly testing showed less homogeneity

    The present study reports the results of a preliminary characterization of the bacterial population of Ciauscolo, a typical Italian fermented sausage, traditionally manufactured in Marche region. The bacterial community involved in Ciauscolo fermentation was investigated using both molecular and culturebased methods. The estimation of genotypic intra-species variation of the autochthonous bacteria isolated was also evaluated by using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis and unweighted pairgroup method with arithmetic averages (UPGMA) cluster analysis. Our findings revealed an high diversity of the autochthonous bacterial population investigated, both at species and strain level

    Observation of 15 N + α resonant structures in 19 F using the thick target in inverse kinematics scattering method

    The spectroscopy of 19 F is of interest for nuclear astrophysics and nuclear structure. In astrophysics, fluorine and the reactions producing and destroying it play a key role in constraining models of stars in different evolutionary stages, such as the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars, responsible of the production of about half of the elements heavier than Fe. In nuclear structure, 19 F has been subject to many investigations aiming at the identification of α and more exotic cluster structures. Also, its spectroscopy is very useful to constrain the nuclear properties of the 19 Ne mirror nucleus. In this work, we report on the measurement of the 15 N − α elastic scattering using the thick target inverse kinematics approach, allowing us to span a very large fluorine excitation energy range ( ∼ 6 –10 MeV). The use of 15 N − α scattering proves very useful to study α clustering in 19 F thanks to the likelihood for populating states with such a structure. Indeed, the R -matrix analysis of the measured differential cross sections shows the occurrence of many candidate α -cluster states of 19 F . It also calls for the redefinition of the spin-parity and widths of a number of 19 F states with respect to what reported in the literature

    Multimodal approach of advanced gastric cancer: Based therapeutic algorithm

    Gastric cancer (GC) is the third leading cause of cancer death in both sexes worldwide, with the highest estimated mortality rates in Eastern Asia and the lowest in Northern America. However, the availability of modern treatment has improved the survival and the prognosis is often poor due to biological characteristics of the disease. In oncology, we are living in the "Era" of target treatment and, to know biological aspects, prognostic factors and predictive response informations to therapy in GC is mandatory to apply the best strategy of treatment. The purpose of this review, according to the recently published English literature, is to summarize existing data on prognostic aspects and predictive factors to response to therapy in GC and to analyze also others therapeutic approaches (surgery and radiotherapy) in locally, locally advanced and advanced GC. Moreover, the multidisciplinary approach (chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy) can improve the prognosis of GC

    Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus to control Escherichia coli on meat matrices

    Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is a predator micro-organism towards other Gram-negative bacteria. We tested B. bacteriovorus to control Escherichia coli growth on chicken slices and canned beef. Moreover, we analysed B. bacteriovorus's lytic ability on eight toxigenic or multidrug-resistant E. coli strains. In chicken slices, the predator induced the highest prey reduction (4.3 log) respect to control at 6 h. In canned beef, the predator induced the highest prey reduction (2.1 log) respect to control at 6 h. Moreover, B. bacteriovorus showed lytic ability towards all tested E. coli strains. B. bacteriovorus could control E. coli and other pathogenic and spoilage bacteria in those meat-based foods that have a shelf life <10 days. It could integrate modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) to prolong the shelf life and improve the safety of pre-packed fresh meat, meat preparations and meat products. In future applications on meat-based foods, B. bacteriovorus could also minimise the use of additives

    Exotic clustering investigation in 13B and 14C using RIBs

    This contribution reports on the investigation about the existence of molecular and/or exotic cluster configurations in boron and carbon n-rich isotopes. To this aim two experiments were performed: the first experimental study of exotic 9Li + 4He cluster states in 13B using the resonance scattering method at TRIUMF, and, with the same technique, the measurement of 10Be + 4He scattering at LNS in Catania, where a 10Be radioactive beam was produced for the first time. In the case of 13B, the elastic excitation function shows the presence of various peaks in an excitation energy region never explored before. In the case of 14C, our exclusive measurement of elastic scattering data with a high intensity beam, sheds some light on previously published results which seemed to be in contradiction

    The 16 O+ 16 O fusion reaction is important in terms of the explosive oxygen burning process during late evolution stage of massive stars as well as understanding of the mechanism of low-energy heavy-ion fusion reactions. We aim to determine the excitation function for the most major exit channels, α + 28 Si and p + 31 P, toward stellar energies indirectly by the Trojan Horse Method via the 16 O( 20 Ne , α 28 Si) α and 16 O( 20 Ne , p 31 P) α three-body reactions. We report preliminary results involving reaction identification, and determination of the momentum distribution of α - 16 O intercluster motion in the projectile 20 Ne nucleus
