    Significance of 18S rDNA specific primers in the identification of genus Dunaliella

    The cells survive in extreme marine environments has received significant interest due to their high valuable compounds. In the present attempt, a total of six different isolates of Dunaliella isolated from the salt pans of Andhra Pradesh, India were identified based on their morphology and cultural characteristics. Besides, the isolates were subjected to molecular identification using 18S rDNA specific primers. Out of the six isolate one was never amplified with the any of species specific primers used hence it was partially sequenced and submitted in GenBank. This study obviously describes the incidence of non carotenogenic strains (never turn from green to red) of Dunaliella bardawil and Dunaliella parva in natural environment

    Analysis of interaction between Arbuscular Mycorrhizal fungi and their Helper bacteria by MILPA model

    Many recent researches carried out the research in mycorrhizal symbiosis to improve crop growth in the agriculture but they differ in their approaches like crops and the agricultural perspectives. The study focused on the interaction of Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and helper bacteria, influence maize growth through milpa as a model system to analyze soil enzyme activity of acid, alkaline phosphatase and signaling molecule of phospholipids fatty acid (PLFA) profile. Bioinoculants plays an important role in plant growth like nutrient mobilization, biocontrol and prevent the plants from stress. The maize crops were treated with bio inoculants such as Azospirillum, Azotobacter, Rhizobium,Pseudomonas and AM fungi. Significant diverse effects were observed with bioinoculants in the crops compared to control crop. The number spores formed was proportional to the rate of colonization.AM fungi association in plant roots helps the plants in nutrient uptake especially phosphorus (P) from soil materials. The enzyme activities were also found to influence the growth of the plant and phospholipids fatty acid (PLFA) profile influences the interaction between bacterium and AMF. Plant and phospholipids fatty acid analysis is asensitive and accurate method in determining microbial community structures, because it depends on living cell contents of microorganisms under in situ conditions. It confirmed with gas chromatographic analysis of PLFA to determination of the structure and total biomass of microbial community in treated soil samples

    A RANDOMIZED CLINICAL ENDPOINT STUDY TO EVALUATE THE SAFETY AND EFFICACY OF CLEARLIV TABLETS IN PATIENTS WITH ALCOHOLIC LIVER DISEASE

    Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the hepatoprotective effect of clearliv tablets with silymarin in patients with alcoholic liver disease.Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, multicenter, open-label, parallel group interventional clinical endpoint study (Phase IIa). Patients attending general medicine outpatient department were screened for alcoholic liver disease using the serum biochemical liver function test and ultrasonogram abdomen and tested whether they satisfy the selection criteria, and 24 patients were then enrolled in the study. The study drug, namely clearliv tablets of Apex Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., was administered to Group A and tablet silymarin was administered to Group B from day 1 to day 56. Patients were reviewed once in 2 weeks. Liver function test was repeated, and patients were enquired of their well-being and any adverse events.Results: The demographic characters and body weight of the subjects showed no significant difference between the groups. There is a significant improvement (p<0.05) in the aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), and total bilirubin (TB) levels on 28th and 56th days in both silymarin and clearliv groups. Of the 2 groups, there is higher significance of improvement in clearliv group (p<0.001), compared to silymarin group. Clearliv group started showing a significant reduction in AST and ALT levels in the first 14 days of the study period. On comparing the mean percentage reduction in the levels of AST (35.7% and 35%), ALT (26.7% and 24.3%), and TB (26.7% and 25%), it was found that clearliv is showing a better percentage of reduction of the above parameters compared to silymarin. There were reports of adverse effects such as loss of appetite and gastritis in both the groups.Conclusion: This clinical study proves that clearliv is functioning as a hepatoprotective drug. It is offering a better hepatoprotection compared to silymarin. Clearliv tablets can be indicated for the management of liver dysfunction, which occurs due to alcoholic liver damage. It may also be used in similar manner in cases of viral hepatitis, drug-induced liver damage, acute and chronic hepatitis

    Evaluation of third order nonlinear optical properties of SiO2/PVA-PEG Nanocomposites by Z-Scan Method

    23-27SiO2 nanoparticles was synthesized by sol-gel method and polymer nanocomposites by solvo-casting method. XRD and SEM analysis have revealed the size, morphological structure and formation of SiO2/PVA-PEG polymer nanocomposites. The presence of hydrogen bond between SiO2 and PVA-PEG was proved with the help of Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy (FTIR). Further UV-Vis studies were used to find the optical band gap and linear refractive index. Third order nonlinear optical properties such as two photon absorption, nonlinear refractive index and third order nonlinear susceptibility was evaluated for the title compound using Z-scan method. The estimated nonlinear optical properties of title compound proved the appropriateness of the sample for optical applications

    Plasma chemokines CXCL10 and CXCL9 as potential diagnostic markers of drug-sensitive and drug-resistant tuberculosis

    Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis still remains to be a challenge with the currently used immune based diagnostic methods particularly Interferon Gamma Release Assay due to the sensitivity issues and their inability in differentiating stages of TB infection. Immune markers are valuable sources for understanding disease biology and are easily accessible. Chemokines, the stimulant, and the shaper of host immune responses are the vital hub for disease mediated dysregulation and their varied levels in TB disease are considered as an important marker to define the disease status. Hence, we wanted to examine the levels of chemokines among the individuals with drug-resistant, drug-sensitive, and latent TB compared to healthy individuals. Our results demonstrated that the differential levels of chemokines between the study groups and revealed that CXCL10 and CXCL9 as potential markers of drug-resistant and drug-sensitive TB with better stage discriminating abilities

    Pharmacokinetics of First-Line Antituberculosis Drugs in HIV-Infected Children with Tuberculosis Treated with Intermittent Regimens in India

    The objective of this report was to study the pharmacokinetics of rifampin (RMP), isoniazid (INH), and pyrazinamide (PZA) in HIV-infected children with tuberculosis (TB) treated with a thrice-weekly anti-TB regimen in the government program in India. Seventy-seven HIV-infected children with TB aged 1 to 15 years from six hospitals in India were recruited. During the intensive phase of TB treatment with directly observed administration of the drugs, a complete pharmacokinetic study was performed. Drug concentrations were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography. A multivariable regression analysis was done to explore the factors impacting drug levels and treatment outcomes. The proportions of children with subnormal peak concentrations (C(max)) of RMP, INH, and PZA were 97%, 28%, and 33%, respectively. Children less than 5 years old had a lower median C(max) and lower exposure (area under the time-concentration curve from 0 to 8 h [AUC(0–8)]) of INH (C(max), 2.5 versus 5.1 μg/ml, respectively [P = 0.016]; AUC(0–8), 11.1 versus 22.0 μg/ml · h, respectively [P = 0.047[) and PZA (C(max), 34.1 versus 42.3 μg/ml, respectively [P = 0.055]; AUC(0–8), 177.9 versus 221.7 μg/ml · h, respectively [P = 0.05]) than those more than 5 years old. In children with unfavorable versus favorable outcomes, the median C(max) of RMP (1.0 versus 2.8 μg/ml, respectively; P = 0.002) and PZA (31.9 versus 44.4 μg/ml, respectively; P = 0.045) were significantly lower. Among all factors studied, the PZA C(max) influenced TB treatment outcome (P = 0.011; adjusted odds ratio, 1.094; 95% confidence interval, 1.021 to 1.173). A high proportion of children with HIV and TB had a subnormal RMP C(max). The PZA C(max) significantly influenced treatment outcome. These findings have important clinical implications and emphasize that drug doses in HIV-infected children with TB have to be optimized
