On the basis of literature sources analysis, the paper provides the rationale for the necessity of considering the limited digital devices capabilities when designing closed digital control systems for the complex electrical power grids. The problem of design is decomposed into two subproblems: design of current state observation vector digital transmission systems and current controlled process state estimation; design of digital systems for optimal control vector calculation, transmission and control actions realization. The paper presents consideration of the former problem, i.e. design of current state observation vector digital transmission systems and current controlled process state estimation: the mathematical model of digital system of information transmission and state estimation considering speed and reliability of technical means of implementation is presented; the functional structure of simulation complex is developed; the paper provides the formulation of the problem of estimating the optimal amount of information about the control object state, resulting in a solution of computational experiments simulating complex. © 2021 The Author(s).The reported study was funded by RFBR, Russia, Sirius University of Science and Technology, JSC Russian Railways and Educational Fund “Talent and success”, project number 20-38-51007

Use of fuzzy edge single-photon emission computed tomography analysis in definite Alzheimer's disease - a retrospective study

Abstract

Background

Definite Alzheimer's disease (AD) requires neuropathological confirmation. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) may enhance diagnostic accuracy, but due to restricted sensitivity and specificity, the role of SPECT is largely limited with regard to this purpose.

Methods

We propose a new method of SPECT data analysis. The method is based on a combination of parietal lobe selection (as regions-of-interest (ROI)), 3D fuzzy edge detection, and 3D watershed transformation. We applied the algorithm to three-dimensional SPECT images of human brains and compared the number of watershed regions inside the ROI between AD patients and controls. The Student's two-sample t-test was used for testing domain number equity in both groups.

Results

AD patients had a significantly reduced number of watershed regions compared to controls (<it>p </it>< 0.01). A sensitivity of 94.1% and specificity of 80% was obtained with a threshold value of 57.11 for the watershed domain number. The narrowing of the SPECT analysis to parietal regions leads to a substantial increase in both sensitivity and specificity.

Conclusions

Our non-invasive, relatively low-cost, and easy method can contribute to a more precise diagnosis of AD.</p

Development of a simulation model of HPPs chain operation

The paper presents a simulation model of a hydroelectric power plants chain. The model allows solving the problem of hydro power plants (HPPs) operation mode planning in a unified power system, taking into account the optimization of water resources. The optimal filling and decrease of storage was performed in MATLAB Simulink software. The hydraulic properties of the river flow between the stations and the corresponding time lags in the functioning of the down-river station are taken into account. The model allows continuously monitoring changes in water pressure at hydropower plants and, as a result, uses the family of flow characteristics for various water pressures. The issues of optimizing the participation of hydroelectric power stations in the regimes of large hydrothermal power systems were also raised. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences

Adaptive Ensemble Models for Medium-Term Forecasting of Water Inflow When Planning Electricity Generation under Climate Change

Medium-term forecasting of water inflow is of great importance for small hydroelectric power plants operating in remote power supply areas and having a small reservoir. Improving the forecasting accuracy is aimed at solving the problem of determining the water reserve for the future generation of electricity at hydroelectric power plants, taking into account the regulation in the medium term. Medium-term regulation is necessary to amplify the load in the peak and semi-peak portions of the load curve. The solution to such problems is aggravated by the lack of sufficiently reliable information on water inflow and prospective power consumption, which is of a stochastic nature. In addition, the mid-term planning of electricity generation should consider the seasonality of changes in water inflow, which directly affects the reserves and the possibility of regulation. The paper considers the problem of constructing a model for medium-term forecasting of water inflow for planning electricity generation, taking into account climatic changes in isolated power systems. Taking into account the regularly increasing effect of climate change, the current study proposes using an approach based on machine learning methods, which are distinguished by a high degree of autonomy and automation of learning, that is, the ability to self-adapt. The results showed that the error (RMSE) of the model based on the ensemble of regression decision trees due to constant self-adaptation decreased from 4.5 m3/s to 4.0 m3/s and turned out to be lower than the error of a more complex multilayer recurrent neural network (4.9 m3/s). The research results are intended to improve forecasting reliability in the planning, management, and operation of isolated operating power systems. © 2021 The Author(s).The reported study was funded by RFBR, Sirius University of Science and Technology, JSC Russian Railways and Educational Fund “Talent and success”, project number 20-38-51007

The issue of establishing the boundaries of water protection and coastal stripes in Ukraine were examined in the article. The purpose of the study is to present the practical results of the formation the boundary delimiter of coastal protection stripes, based on scientific and methodological approaches to the development of land management projects for the establishment of coastal protection stripes and modern technologies in the area of geographic information system. Theoretical principles of establishing the boundaries of water protective zones and coastal protective stripes on water resources are analyzed. Regulatory basic documents on the subject of use in the establishment of water protection zones and coastal protection stripes have been explored. It is noted that the size of water protective zones and coastal protective stripes can be set in accordance with the provisions of the Land Code of Ukraine, and according to the especial projects in land management. It is suggested the procedure for establishing coastal and water protective zones is based on determining the hydrographic characteristics of water sites and morphological parameters of coastal areas using remote sensing data and geoinformation system and includes six steps: 1. Determination of morphometric parameters of water sites. 2. Obtaining relief data and its application 3.Determining the steepness of the slopes. 4. Construction of catchment areas and determination of surface effluent directions. 5. Creation of a buffer zone around water sites (construction of a protective stripe and a water protective zone). 6. Combining layers of informative maps for the final definition of boundaries. The use of the methodology is presented on a specific example, namely the pond in the village Gremyache, Rivne region. Methodology will provide a technical background for establishing and decision-making on the size of water protective zones and coastal protection stripes around water objects. One more aspect of the problem, solved by the methodology proposed in the article, involves informative supporting of decisions in a sphere of controlling water fund lands at the regional level as part of the planning measures for sustainable regions development and protection of water objects. Keywords: water protective zone, coastal protection belt, land management project, Earth remote sensing data of the Earth and geographic information system data, boundaries of the water protective zone and coastal protective strip

Parkinson's disease is one of the most common age-related diseases, most often developing between the ages of 65 and 70. But, earlier debuts of the disease are also possible - in young or adult age. Due to the progressive neurodegenerative process, mainly in the dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra, patients need constant symptomatic therapy aimed at maintaining dopamine in sufficient concentration to correct neurological deficits. According to the accepted clinical guidelines for Parkinson's disease, at the onset of the disease at the age of 65- 70 years, the preparation of choice for starting therapy should be dopamine receptor agonists, and only with the progression of the disease, severe neurological deficit, therapy is supplemented with Levodopa. The article considers a clinical case of Parkinson's disease in a patient who had an incorrect treatment strategy.
