An insight into the presence of lignicolous fungi in Sicily (southern Italy)
Thirty-six lignicolous fungal species (4 Ascomycota and 32 Basidiomycota), included in 16 families and 28 genera have been recorded in different natural and reforested areas of Sicily. Amylostereum laevigatum, Ceriporia excelsa, Phlebia lilascens, and Stereum insignitum represent new records for Sicily. Notes on some rare species are also here reported

Battarrea phalloides in Macedonia: genetic variability, distribution and ecology
Morphological and molecular analyses of Battarrea phalloides from Macedonia were done. While B. phalloides specimens shown three kind of spore ornamentation, each one related to a clade in the phylogenetic ITS nrDNA tree; all specimens from Macedonia shown spores with anastomosing truncate ridges and very low variability of the ITS nrDNA sequences. The low genetic variability of these specimens, could be because of genetic drift.Peer Reviewe

First record of Capnobotrys dingleyae (Metacapnodiaceae) on Taxus baccata for southern Europe
Field investigations carried out in a mixed forest of Fagus sylvatica and Taxus baccata in the Nebrodi Natural Park (Sicily, southern Italy) allowed us to identify a very rare lignicolous ascomycete Capnobotrys dingleyae, a new species for southern Europe
Fungal DNA barcode (ITS nrDNA) reveals more diversity than expected in Tulostoma from Macedonia
With the aim of clarifying the number of Tulostoma species in Macedonia, and to verify some previous collections, molecular
analyses were carried out on four morphologically identified species collected in different habitats (at the edges of oak or juniper forests,
pine plantations, meadows, rocky places, roadsides). Sixty-two new sequences were generated and compared with recently published
sequences included in public databases. According to the barcoding sequences fourteen Tulostoma species are identified in Macedonia
and ten of them were assigned to known species: Tulostoma brumale, T. fimbriatum, T. lusitanicum, T. cf. moravecii, T. melanocyclum,
T. punctatum, T. simulans, T. squamosum, T. subsquamosum, and T. winterhoffii. However, four of them remain as Tulostoma sp. 1, 2, 3,
and 4, since more collections should be found and analyzed before giving them a specific name. This research received support from the SYNTHESYS

Rechecking of the genus Scleroderma (Gasteromycetes) from Macedonia using barcoding approach
In order to verify some doubtful collections of Scleroderma Pers. species from Macedonia, 54 specimens were revised using
morphological and molecular analyses. The 12 internal transcribed spacer of nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS nrDNA) sequences obtained
in this study were compared with previously published sequences included in public databases. According to the barcoding sequences,
some Macedonian Scleroderma specimens were confirmed to belong to 4 species: S. areolatum Ehrenb., S. bovista Fr., S. meridionale
Demoulin & Malençon, and S. verrucosum (Vaill.) Pers. This research received support from the SYNTHESYS

DNA barcoding is an effective tool to distinguish Pisolithus from Macedonia
With the aim of clarifying the number of Pisolithus species in Macedonia,
molecular analysis was carried out on seven specimens collected in oak forests in Macedonia
during 1987 and 2005. New sequences were compared with previously published sequences
included in public databases. Three Pisolithus species are identified in Macedonia: P. arhizus,
P. capsulifer, and P. tinctorius. This research received support from the SYNTHESYS Project http://www.synthesys.
