Spin Excitation Spectra of Anisotropic Spin-1/21/2 Triangular Lattice Heisenberg Antiferromagnets

Investigation of dynamical excitations is difficult but crucial to the understanding of many exotic quantum phenomena discovered in quantum materials. This is particularly true for highly frustrated quantum antiferromagnets whose dynamical properties deviate strongly from theoretical predictions made based on the spin-wave or other approximations. Here we present a large-scale numerical calculation on the dynamical correlation functions of spin-1/21/2 triangular Heisenberg model using a state-of-the-art tensor network renormalization group method. The calculated results allow us to gain for the first time a comprehensive picture on the nature of spin excitation spectra in this highly frustrated quantum system. It provides a quantitative account for all the key features of the dynamical spectra disclosed by inelastic neutron scattering measurements for Ba3CoSb2O9\rm Ba_3CoSb_2O_9, revealing the importance of the interplay between low- and high-energy excitations and its renormalization effect to the low-energy magnon bands and high-energy continuums. We identify the longitudinal Higgs modes in the intermediate-energy scale and predict the energy and momentum dependence of spectral functions along the three principal axes that can be verified by polarized neutron scattering experiments. Furthermore, we find that the spin excitation spectra weakly depend on the anisotropic ratio of the antiferromagnetic interaction.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, and a Supplemental Materia

Eliminating temporal correlation in quantum-dot entangled photon source by quantum interference

Semiconductor quantum dots, as promising solid-state platform, have exhibited deterministic photon pair generation with high polarization entanglement f\textcompwordmark idelity for quantum information applications. However, due to temporal correlation from inherently cascaded emission, photon indistinguishability is limited, which restricts their potential scalability to multi-photon experiments. Here, by utilizing quantum interferences to decouple polarization entanglement from temporal correlation, we improve multi-photon entanglement f\textcompwordmark idelity from (58.7±2.2)%(58.7\pm 2.2)\% to (75.5±2.0)%(75.5\pm 2.0)\%. Our work paves the way to realize scalable and high-quality multi-photon states from quantum dots

Berry Curvature and Bulk-Boundary Correspondence from Transport Measurement for Photonic Chern Bands

Berry curvature is a fundamental element to characterize topological quantum physics, while a full measurement of Berry curvature in momentum space was not reported for topological states. Here we achieve two-dimensional Berry curvature reconstruction in a photonic quantum anomalous Hall system via Hall transport measurement of a momentum-resolved wave packet. Integrating measured Berry curvature over the two-dimensional Brillouin zone, we obtain Chern numbers corresponding to -1 and 0. Further, we identify bulk-boundary correspondence by measuring topology-linked chiral edge states at the boundary. The full topological characterization of photonic Chern bands from Berry curvature, Chern number, and edge transport measurements enables our photonic system to serve as a versatile platform for further in-depth study of novel topological physics

High-efficiency single-photon source above the loss-tolerant threshold for efficient linear optical quantum computing

Photon loss is the biggest enemy for scalable photonic quantum information processing. This problem can be tackled by using quantum error correction, provided that the overall photon loss is below a threshold of 1/3. However, all reported on-demand and indistinguishable single-photon sources still fall short of this threshold. Here, by using tailor shaped laser pulse excitation on a high-quantum efficiency single quantum dot deterministically coupled to a tunable open microcavity, we demonstrate a high-performance source with a single-photon purity of 0.9795(6), photon indistinguishability of 0.9856(13), and an overall system efficiency of 0.712(18), simultaneously. This source for the first time reaches the efficiency threshold for scalable photonic quantum computing. With this source, we further demonstrate 1.89(14) dB intensity squeezing, and consecutive 40-photon events with 1.67 mHz count rate

Experimental Generation of Spin-Photon Entanglement in Silicon Carbide

A solid-state approach for quantum networks is advantages, as it allows the integration of nanophotonics to enhance the photon emission and the utilization of weakly coupled nuclear spins for long-lived storage. Silicon carbide, specifically point defects within it, shows great promise in this regard due to the easy of availability and well-established nanofabrication techniques. Despite of remarkable progresses made, achieving spin-photon entanglement remains a crucial aspect to be realized. In this paper, we experimentally generate entanglement between a silicon vacancy defect in silicon carbide and a scattered single photon in the zero-phonon line. The spin state is measured by detecting photons scattered in the phonon sideband. The photonic qubit is encoded in the time-bin degree-of-freedom and measured using an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Photonic correlations not only reveal the quality of the entanglement but also verify the deterministic nature of the entanglement creation process. By harnessing two pairs of such spin-photon entanglement, it becomes straightforward to entangle remote quantum nodes at long distance.Comment: 8 pages in total, 4 figures in the main text, 1 figure in the supplemental materia

Background: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease leading to joint destruction. The prevention of bone and cartilage destruction has received increased attention in recent years. Objective: To evaluate the current evidences regarding the bone-protecting efficacy of Chinese medicine or the combination of Chinese medicine and Western medicine for RA.Methods: We comprehensively searched PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library (www.thecochranelibrary.com), the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), the Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals (VIP), and SinoMed. We then performed a systematic review and cumulative meta-analysis of all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the two therapy methods. Results: Sixteen studies including 1,171 patients were included in the final analysis. The results showed that Chinese medicine could significantly improve the bone mineral density (BMD) (mean difference [MD] = 0.05 /g·cm−2, 95% CI [0.03, 0.08], P < 0.00001), and decrease the serum matrix metalloproteinase 3 (MMP-3) ([SMD] = −2.84, 95% CI [−4.22, −1.47], P < 0.0001).Conclusions: Chinese medicine may provide an efficiently alternative choice for the treatment of RA in terms of the bone-protecting efficiency. Given the inherent limitations of the included studies, future well-designed RCTs are required to confirm and update the findings of this analysis

Bodily Ontology of the Soul and Health Reform: Adventist Turn In Christian Anthropology

Following the spread of Platonic anthropology, Christianity has started, already since the 2nd century A.D., to be dominated by dualism – a trend undisturbed by somewhat more holistic Thomism, and further strengthened by Cartesianism, which distanced Christian theology and soul even further away from the body. During the 1960s, theologians have become aware of the far more positive and inclusive attitude that the Bible has towards the body. Yet, a century before, the Adventist movement was born in conditionalism such as presented by Hobbes in Leviathan (XLIV). Man does not have a soul; he is a “living soul” – a body vivified by the “breath of life” (Gen 2:7). Without the body, there is no life, nor, consequentially, eternal hell. To this Adventists have also conjoined a philosophy of health reform in which the care of the body has a key role, and upon which depends man’s intellectual and spiritual wellbeing. On this foundation, they have built a rich healthcare and educational practice. This physicalist version of Christian anthropology is a unique worldview contribution to philosophy of the body and a subject worthy of academic attention

Molecular subtypes predict the preferential site of distant metastasis in advanced breast cancer: a nationwide retrospective study

    Get PDF
ObjectiveThis study aimed to explore possible associations between molecular subtypes and site of distant metastasis in advanced breast cancer (ABC).Methods3577 ABC patients were selected from 21 hospitals of seven geographic regions in China from 2012-2014. A questionnaire was designed to collect medical information regarding demographic characteristics, risk factors, molecular subtype, recurrence/metastasis information, and disease-free survival (DFS). The cancers were classified into Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2-enriched and Triple Negative subtypes. Chi-square test and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models were performed to explore the associations between molecular subtypes and distant metastasis sites.ResultsA total of 2393 cases with molecular subtypes information were finally examined. Patients with Luminal A (51.1%) and Luminal B (44.7%) were most prone to bone metastasis, whereas liver metastasis was more frequently observed in HER2-enriched ABC patients (29.1%).The cumulative recurrence and metastasis rates of ABC patients at 36 months of DFS were the most significant within molecular types, of which Triple Negative was the highest (82.7%), while that of Luminal A was the lowest (58.4%). In the adjusted Cox regression analysis, Luminal B, HER2-enriched and Triple Negative subtypes increased the risk of visceral metastasis by 23%, 46% and 87% respectively. In addition, Triple Negative patients had a higher probability of brain metastasis (HR 3.07, 95% CI: 1.04-9.07).ConclusionMolecular subtypes can predict the preferential sites of distant metastasis, emphasizing that these associations were of great help in choices for surveillance, developing appropriate screening and cancer management strategies for follow-up and personalized therapy in ABC patients

The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients with type 2 diabetes using the STOP questionnaire (Snoring, Tiredness, Observed, Pressure; STOP). Excessive daytime sleepiness was evaluated with the Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS). Previous studies support the idea that glucose intolerance and type 2 diabetes might represent risk factors for OSA, as well as the idea of OSA being the risk factor for type 2 diabetes. A total of 252 patients with type 2 diabetes were surveyed during the regular follow-up in the Regional Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases of Split University Hospital. The results of our study indicate that 156 patients (61.9%) had increased risk for OSA according to STOP questionnaire score. In addition, those at high risk for OSA were older (65 vs. 61 years of age, p < 0.05), had higher body mass index (BMI, 28.6 ± 5.1 vs. 26.5 ± 4.1, p < 0.001), higher neck circumference (41.5 ± 4.7 vs. 39.6 ± 6.2, p < 0.009), and had excessive daytime sleepiness according to the ESS score (5.3 ± 3.1 vs. 3.9 ± 2.5, p < 0.001). Individuals with type 2 diabetes reported to have comorbidities, mainly hypertension (46%), gastroesophageal reflux disease (28%), depression (10%), and asthma (8%). Based on current evidence from literature, OSA could be related to clinical conditions such as diabetes and essential hypertension. More epidemiological data are needed to establish the prevalence of OSA in Croatian patients with type 2 diabetes. Our findings indicate the relevance of STOP questionnaire use as a screening tool for obstructive sleep apnea in patients with type 2 diabetes in Croatia
