In this paper, we endow set S with the structure of an ordered semigroup and define “intuitionistic fuzzy” analogous for several notions that have been proved to be useful in the theory of ordered semigroups and give some equivalent conditions of these definitions. Then we characterize the completely regular and the strongly regular ordered semigroups by means of intuitionistic fuzzy bi-ideals.Peer Reviewe

Abundant evidence has suggested that neuroinflammation participates in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). The emerging evidence has supported that microglia may play key roles in the progressive neurodegeneration in PD and might be a promising therapeutic target. Ganoderma lucidum (GL), a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, has been shown potential neuroprotective effects in our clinical trials that make us to speculate that it might possess potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating properties. To test this hypothesis, we investigated the potential neuroprotective effect of GL and possible underlying mechanism of action through protecting microglial activation using co-cultures of dopaminergic neurons and microglia. The microglia is activated by LPS and MPP+-treated MES 23.5 cell membranes. Meanwhile, GL extracts significantly prevent the production of microglia-derived proinflammatory and cytotoxic factors [nitric oxide, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interlukin 1β (IL-1β)] in a dose-dependent manner and down-regulate the TNF-α and IL-1β expressions on mRNA level as well. In conclusion, our results support that GL may be a promising agent for the treatment of PD through anti-inflammation

Observer-Based Robust Passive Control for a Class of Uncertain Neutral Systems: An Integral Sliding Mode Approach

    Get PDF
The problem of integral sliding mode control (ISMC) with passivity is investigated for a class of uncertain neutral systems with time-varying delay (NTSTD) and external disturbance. The system states are unavailable. An ISMC strategy is proposed based on the state estimate. By employing a novel sliding functional, a new sufficient criterion of robust asymptotic stability and passivity for both the error system and the sliding mode (SM) dynamic system is derived via linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Then, a SM controller is synthesized to guarantee the reachability of the sliding surface predefined in the state estimate space. Finally, a numerical example shows the feasibility and superiority of the obtained result

ObjectiveTo explore the risk factors for survival and prognosis of patients with metastatic endometrial cancer and to build and verify a reliable prediction model.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed patients diagnosed with metastatic endometrial cancer in the US Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database between January 2010 and December 2015. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to assess clinical variables impact on survival and to construct nomograms. The results of the consistency index (C-index), subject operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and calibration curve were used to evaluate the predictive ability of the nomogram.ResultsThis study included 3,878 patients with metastatic endometrial cancer. In the univariate analysis, variables associated with overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) included age, race, marital status, pathological type, pathological grade, T-stage, N-stage, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, bone metastasis, brain metastasis, liver metastasis, and lung metastasis. In the multivariate analysis, age, race, pathological type, pathological grade, T-stage, N-stage, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, brain metastasis, liver metastasis, and lung metastasis were independent risk factors for OS and CSS (all P < 0.05). Combined with the results of the multiple factors, the 1-, 3-, 5-, and 8-year nomograms were constructed. For OS and CSS, T-stage had the greatest impact on the adverse prognosis of patients with metastatic endometrial cancer. The C-indexes of the OS and CSS nomograms in the training cohort were 0.749 (95% CI, 0.739–0.760) and 0.746 (95% CI, 0.736–0.756), respectively. The C-indices of OS and CSS in the validation cohort were 0.730 (95% CI, 0.714–0.746) and 0.728 (95% CI, 0.712–0.744), respectively. The ROC curve revealed our model's good prediction accuracy and clinical practicability. The calibration curve also confirmed the consistency between the model and actual existence. The Kaplan-Meier curves revealed statistically significant differences between the risk subgroups (P < 0.05).ConclusionOur SEER-based nomograms for predicting survival in patients with metastatic endometrial cancer were helpful for the clinical evaluation of patient prognosis

BACKGROUND: This study aims to compare the performance of the recently developed Chinese (city) tariff of the EQ-5D-3L against the UK, US, Japanese and Korean tariffs in a general rural population in China. METHODS: From November 2015 to September 2016, 12,085 permanent residents aged 45-69 from 257 villages randomly selected from Hua County, Henan Province, China, were interviewed using EQ-5D-3L, and a one-on-one questionnaire investigation was used to collect data on factors associated with HRQOL. The health utility scores were calculated using the UK, US, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (city) tariffs. The agreement, known-groups validity and sensitivity of these five tariffs were evaluated. Transition scores for pairs of observed EQ-5D-3L health states were calculated and compared. RESULTS: The Korean tariff yielded the highest mean health utility score (0.963), followed by the Chinese (city) (0.948), US (0.943), UK (0.930) and Japanese (0.921) tariffs, but the differences in the scores of any two tariffs did not exceed the MCID. The Chinese (city) tariff showed higher ICC values (ICCs> 0.89, 95% CI:0.755-0.964) and narrower limits of agreement (0.099-0.167) than the Korean tariff [(ICCs> 0.71, 95% CI:0.451-0.955); (0.146-0.253)]. The Chinese (city) tariff had a higher relative efficiency and effect size statistics in 10 out of 11 variables as compared to the UK, US and Japanese tariffs. The Chinese (city) tariff (0.215) was associated with moderate mean absolute transition scores compared with the UK (0.342), US (0.230), Japanese (0.149) and Korean (0.189) tariffs for 1485 observed pairs of the EQ-5D-3L health states. CONCLUSIONS: Health utility scores derived from the five tariffs differed. The Chinese (city) tariff was the most suitable of these tariffs and was without obvious weakness. We recommend adopting the Chinese (city) tariff when applying EQ-5D-3L to assess quality of life among the elderly in China's agricultural region with socio-economic status similar to Hua County. Results of this study had provided a crucial basis for health surveys, health promotion projects, health intervention trials, and health economic evaluation taking HRQOL as a target in rural areas of China

Growth hormone-releasing hormone agonist attenuates vascular calcification in diabetic db/db mice

IntroductionVascular calcification (VC) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. VC increases mortality of all-causes. VC is one of most common cardiovascular complications in type II diabetes. So far, no therapy has been proven to be effective in treatment of clinical VC. The present study investigated the therapeutic effects of MR409, an agonistic analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH-A), on VC in diabetic db/db mice.Method and resultDiabetic mice were injected with MR409 subcutaneously every day for 8 weeks. Long-term treatment with MR409 improved serum lipid profile and endothelium-dependent relaxation to acetylcholine, and reduced vascular structural injury in diabetic mice without affecting serum growth hormone level. Echocardiography showed that calcium plaques present in heart valve of diabetic mice disappeared in diabetic mice after treatment with MR409. MR409 inhibited vascular calcium deposition associated with a marked reduction in the expressions of osteogenic-regulated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and transcription osteogenic marker gene Runx2 in diabetic mice. MR409 also inhibited vascular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and upregulated the expressions of anti-calcifying protein Klotho in diabetic mice.DiscussionOur results demonstrate that GHRH-A MR409 can effectively attenuate VC and heart valve calcification, and protect against endothelial dysfunction and vascular injury in diabetic mice without significantly affecting pituitary-growth hormone axis. The mechanisms may involve upregulation of anti-calcifying protein Klotho and reduction in vascular ROS and the expression of redox sensitive osteogenic genes Runx2 and ALP. GHRH-A may represent a new pharmacological strategy for treatment of VC and diabetics associated cardiovascular complications

Postoperative serum squamous cell carcinoma antigen and carcinoembryonic antigen predict overall survival in surgical patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

BackgroundTumor markers are routinely used in clinical practice. However, for resectable patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), they are applied infrequently as their prognostic significance is incompletely understood.MethodsThis historical cohort study included 2769 patients with resected ESCC from 2011 to 2018 in a high-risk area in northern China. Their clinical data were extracted from the Electronic Medical Record. Survival analysis of eight common tumor markers was performed with multivariable Cox proportional hazards regressions.ResultsWith a median follow-up of 39.5 months, 901 deaths occurred. Among the eight target markers, elevated postoperative serum SCC (Squamous cell carcinoma antigen) and CEA (Carcinoembryonic antigen) predicted poor overall survival (SCC HRadjusted: 2.67, 95% CI: 1.70-4.17; CEA HRadjusted: 2.36, 95% CI: 1.14-4.86). In contrast, preoperative levels were not significantly associated with survival. Stratified analysis also demonstrated poorer survival in seropositive groups of postoperative SCC and CEA within each TNM stage. The above associations were generally robust using different quantiles of concentrations above the upper limit of the clinical normal range as alternative cutoffs. Regarding temporal trends of serum levels, SCC and CEA were similar. Their concentrations fell rapidly after surgery and thereafter remained relatively stable.ConclusionPostoperative serum SCC and CEA levels predict the overall survival of ESCC surgical patients. More importance should be attached to the use of these markers in clinical applications
